I find the hook and loop (velcro) closures more comfortable and easier to use. The wide width helps fit my feet.

Purchased for my dad (late 70's) who has neuropathy and his feet hurt and swell, he loves these shoes and said they don't make his feet hurt at all !!

I use everyday. Are comfortable when you put on the first time and just go. Wish new balance would hove more choose of velcro shoes for adults then kids and in wide sizes also. This is a great show will order again when I wear this out.

Very similar to my NB 990's, my arthritic hands like the hook and loop feature.

Sole has a stiffener to keep the shoe from rolling. Need very firm shoes for my AFOs (foot and ankle orthotics) Have bought at least 30 pairs of this model over the years. Very satisfied.

I wear a brace and the 4E was wide enough for my brace to fit comfortably in the shoe. I also like that I do not have to worry about tying the sneaker as well. Fantastic shoe!

Hook & loop shoe is great when you can't tie your shoes to hit the bricks or trade mill for a brisk long walk.

The neuro physical therapist recommended the Men's Hook and Loop shoe. The support is OUTSTANDING, and the velcro closure is REMARKABLE! I plan to buy a second pair right away to enjoy two different colors: tan for casual, and black for dressier occasions.

This is the second pair I bought for my husband. We are long time fans of New Balance shoes and always confident to order online. My husband had knee replacement surgery last June which was complicated by extreme foot swelling. It was time for the doctor's appointment and none of his NB shoes would fit. I took a chance and ordered the Hook and Loop in XXL, online. They arrived quickly and they fit! In addition they were/are extremely comfortable and provide good support and help him maintain his balance. The plus side are the velcro straps, so helpful when someone is having difficulty bending down. Also, the shoe opens widely allowing easy entry.The original pair were beige. We ordered this second pair in black for variety. I highly recommend this shoe for anyone with foot, back and/or balance problems.

These are everyday shoes also used for walking a couple of miles per day (rotated among other shoes so not worn every day). These are probably the most comfortable walking shoes that I have.

I love these shoes. Much better than the pair I received through insurance. That pair was also New Balance but they had a d ring and elastic that would twist and then loose tightness. This pair is built right into the wall of the shoe and therefore can't slip. So glad I bought them even if I had to pay for them. I am going to buy another pair in white immediately.

My elderly uncle needed a shoe with really good support and this shoe does just that. It comes in black, white and brown so at least they have a choice.
