Cute shoe, runs smaller than NB (Zappos recommended 7.5 instead of my usual 8). But the footbed had a pressure point where my big toe/bunion is and it would probably be uncomfortable, so I returned these.

I really wanted to like this shoe as it has so many great reviews. I don't do well with a heel to toe drop over 8mm and these are 12 but I though I'd try anyway. God bless Zappos for their great return policy. They have great support but the front of the shoe was huge on me and my feet slid around and began to hurt. I tried adding an insert but they were still too big in the forefoot. Also, the higher heel caused my forefeet to hurt. I have forefoot issues.
It is attractive and well made, and has a nice wide toe box, but it was just too deep for me. Just not for me.

Sadly style did not work for me - the heel is higher on the inner aspect of the shoe, causing your foot to roll outward where I need a more neutral fit. Was hoping these would have been similar to the 1080v style, which is the last comfortable fit I have found in a NB shoe, but unfortunately they are not.

When I first put this shoe on, I was in heaven! It felt wonderful. I wore them for about 2 hours and was so thrilled to find a shoe that great that I planned to get another pair. During the next hour the comfort went away till I couldn't wait to get them off. Sad to say, they must go back.

did not try them on because the 860 seemed like a better idea with a wider toe and narrow heel

For a shoe costing $125 dollars, this shoe does not live up to its cost. The comfort is OK - not great. They are more narrow than a wide should be. I will probably keep them not because I think they're great, but because the other 8 pairs - different brands - I orderer from Zappo were Worse!!

I bought a pair of gray NB 840's at my local shoe store and they are the best. I've tried ordering other pairs from both NB direct and Zappos in different colors and the other colors don't have same comfy feel as my original gray pair. So I tried 4 other gray pairs and only one was right. The quality is inconsistent as is the sizing and feel of the sneakers. I guess I'll have to keep trying different pairs on and hope that I can get another good pair. Very disappointing.

The tongue moves to the side no matter how I lace them.

I really wanted these to work, I found the toe box nice and spacious, cushioning was good and I liked the over all appearance, but I have a morton's neuroma and this shoe irritated the heck out of it, even with a different orthotic. It also hurt the side of my foot so they have to go back. I had a pair of NB Fresh Foam that I loved but they quit making that style, and the new Fresh Foams are awful, wish they would leave well enough alone.

Comfortable enough
I did not like the design of the back part of the heal .. looks like is uneven . I thought on returning but I was in need of the running shoes.. to bad you can't see an accurate picture of the back of the shoes

The toe box is too narrow/shallow, even in an extra wide. (I also ordered the 840v2 in the same size and didn't have the same difficulty with that one).

This shoe has no cushion except for the excessive amount around the opening. Hard as a rock, & definitely nothing I could ever run in!

I loved the look of this shoe but it was too narrow in the toe box for me. New Balance always runs small on me and I sometimes go up a whole size. And I have a bunion that I have to accommodate. Sadly I sent them back. I ended up with a Hoka but I’m not crazy about the color and look. I wish I could have found a shoe with a great fit and great style. I wanted a waterproof lightweight trail shoe as I walk my dog in wet conditions but I could only find a heavyweight waterproof which was too much like the hiking shoe I have.

I have 3 pr of 940v3's that I love. I bought the 840v4 by mistake and had to return it. My big toe rubbed again the toe of the shoe on both feet.
Otherwise, I liked the shoe and would have kept it.

I bought the 840v4 shoes to replace my Fresh Foam Vongo 2 pair. The new pair is comfortable, but I prefer my Vongo 2's because they have a wider toe box and the plastic film arc on the toe is also wider which helped my shoes last longer. I often kick holes in my shoes and that didn't happen with my Vongo 2's. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find new Vongo's to buy or they may no longer be produced.

I have an older version of this sneaker in the same size and it fits me perfectly. I could not get my foot in this one. Strange!

I returned these shoes because I was looking for more comfortable shoes for walking. I ended up reordering different ones.

These felt great and supportive, but the toe box is way too low. It made it feel like the shoe was too short, even though it isn't.

I wanted a pair of good winter walking shoes in a darker color, but these let in lots of cold air. I've gone back to my solid white NB walking shoes for use outdoors in the cooler weather. I wish you would make a good pair of women's walking shoes in a solid dark color navy, gray, or black that don't look so masculine or orthopedic. I really don't need white sides with fuchsia stripes on the soles. I am not trying to make a fashion statement; I just want to walk in comfort.

I liked they way these running shoes looked. I wear a narrow and they fit the bill in that way. The problem was in the back of my heels around my ankles. The back of this shoe did not have much padding. I kept them for about a month and tried them on every day but ultimately I felt like there was a lump in the back that would give me blisters. I was sorry that they did not work out.

I’m an avid 880 wearer, thought I’d give the 840 a try. I’m a true supinator and found much less stability than the 880, and the heel was shallow. Great looking shoe, size length and narrow width were perfect. Had to return but will try NB again.

The fit and size is pretty good and they have a decent amount of cushion. I have them a lower rating than I would have because the tongue slips to the side. Yes, I have the laces through the loop on the tongue but it doesn’t help. I’ve never had a tongue move so much. Can’t explain why, but it does. Wouldn’t buy these again for that reason.

Comfy shoe, not enough support = no good. My daughter tried these as well as one other pair that was suppose to replace the 1260s and neither are good. If it has support, it doesn't have cushion, the other one has cushion but no support. We need stability people and taking away our model of shoes is just wrong. I tried to stay with your brand, but you make it tough. I will be researching other stability shoes outside of NB unless you bring back the 1260s.
