I loved these shoes when I first received them. I basically just walk in them but after about a month, I noticed that the fabric started snagging/tearing on the sides and if it continues then they will be ruined. It happens at the area where my toes bend (on the sides). I have never washed or wore them in the rain. I am a neat freak and I take very good care of my belongings; they still look new except for the fabric tearing issue. I just don't understand why these shoes are tearing after I've spent so much money for them. Disappointed.

Just received these today. Really not a barefoot feel at all. I did some pretty serious hiking in my original merrell glove shoes and run dog agility in five finger shoes and vivobarefoot. Too much arch in these. I really just wanted something with a tad more thickness to the sole. My old merrell gloves may have to do....

I am an avowed wearer of Merrell shoes. I have worn them for many years and this is the first one I have not been happy with. I own the Vapor Glove models 1 and 2 and have loved them and still wear them as daily wear and running shoes. I purchased this Trail Glove thinking that perhaps, being a bit more "mature", I might try something with a bit more cushion. I got these shoes and began wearing them, only to find that the foot bed was very hard and unforgiving. It was like standing on a hard floor all day. I also experienced pain in the arch of my right foot that I have never experienced before. I wore them for a month and wound up returning them. I have purchased a pair of the Vapor Glove 4 shoes as an exchange for this Trail Glove, and find them to be just as comfortable for running and daily wear as the Vapor Glove 1 and 2. I am sad to give these shoes a bad review, but, Merrell needs to re-design this shoe.

beautiful style; great materials; but stiff and uncomfortable-- wrong qualities in a shoe!

What is the inside strap on the outer side for: It is like rubber band and VERY annoying.

So so disappointed! The elastic at the instep of the left shoe is sewn on wonky. I tried to ignore it, but it is very annoying and caused a blister at my instep. The other shoe however feels like a dream to wear, which makes this shoddy craftsmanship even more heartbreaking, as it could have been my perfect pair of barefoot trail runners.

I love the feel of these shoes, and feel they cause my feet to overpronate (to the inside), so sadly I will be returning them.

These are supposed to be barefoot shoes. Why is there an arch support? Too bad, they look great.

The shoe quality and style were good but the collar of the right shoe literally rubbed a blister on my right foot near the inside ankle!

Shoes fit fine, but did not have enough arch support for my poor old flat feet!

Strong chemical smell. Intrusive arch supports. Tongue digs into ankles because of all-in-one construction. Also back of heel digs into ankle. Too bad because sole feels good when walking. Elastic in laces is deteriorated—old stock?

Was looking for a shoe with support and cushioning. Wearing these felt like being nearly barefoot. Not what I need. Returning.

I am returning this item because the shoes are extremely Minimalist and I need a lot of cushioning/support for my feet while hiking/running. Overall, they are true to size/width and the style is nice but I need more padding.

These were super disappointing, if you are a previous Trail Glove 4 owner looking for another pair (because the newer models are more padded and have arch support) - THESE ARE NOT FOR YOU. I bought them to replace my older pair for trail glove 4's which I love, and the new models lose everything I loved about them, so I wanted to pick up a pair before all the old stock disappears after spending hours searching for old stock these seemed like the best price option. Despite have trail glove 4 on the label, this model fits like a trail glove 5 - there is arch support (not just the glove snug feeling - actual arch support), and the padding on the bottom is substantial and very noticeable, making the stack height 11.5 mm (like the new models) not the more minimal 4.5 mm that the trail glove 4 is supposed to have - you lose all ground sensation. If your looking for a minimal barefoot shoe, or to replace your beloved trail glove 4's, these suck.

To avoid a breakin period, I went up a half size in the blue color and after a 50 minute walk the right shoe collar dug into my ankle and caused a red blister. Since it was too late to return them. I tried wearing them with socks and went for a run. The soles felt stiff and hard like concrete. Hopefully they will improve in a week or two

Wow, how disappointing. Look closely at the photos, and you'll see (as I did, but sadly in person) that the tongue of the shoe is only open on one side -- it's an odd design that causes the tongue to not fit properly when laced unless your foot is quite slim. Further, the tongue is too long/comes up too high on the ankle. Awkward! Uncomfortable! I returned these.

Sorely disappointed with the Trail Glove. Was hoping for the feeling of a Vapor Glove with a thicker sole. The shoe feels too puffy for lack of a better word. There's too much fabric and cushioning on the upper. It fits snug and I would have preferred a wider fit, especially in the toe box. But the biggest disappointment is the arch support. Why on earth would you put even a minimal arch support in a barefoot shoe? Barefoot means no arch support, none. Will not be buying again, let alone recommend. Anyone looking for a decent barefoot running shoe should get the Vapor Glove 4.

The Trail Glove 4 was very comfortable and I daresay it could have been a daily casual wear shoe for me. Unfortunately, after a few times I wore them to walk around the office, the elastic band on the inside broke free of the insole. This allowed the tongue to move to the attached side and away from the center. With the tongue of the shoe being attached fully on one side, while only being held in place by elastic on the other, there is too much strain on the elastic band, which I believe is what caused the break. A simple design flaw.
Other than that, the shoes fit like a glove. If you have low arches, you may feel discomfort.
