It feels like a sock and wraps your feet like a glove. I would call them sock-shoes. They feel great.

These are minimalist shoes. Fourth pair I've owned over the years and tens of thousands of miles collectively. Note - You DO NOT need to run a half-size down regardless if you're told that. No your toes don't hit the end of the shoe but only distance runners realize it's your actual true feel to the ground at the same shoe size.

I love these shoes so much. They are so comfortable I only ever want to wear these shoes and nothing else. I bought these maybe a year ago and pretty much wear them all the time. They finally are ripping a little on the fabric but I have really put them through their paces. I never used to think I was a Merrell kind of person for some reason and then I actually bought a pair of their shoes and they always fit perfectly, are really comfortable and good quality and now I don't want to buy any other brand if I can help it.

I must admit I didn't get these shoes for their intended purpose. I wanted a shoe that I could use in the water, hike in, and kayak in. We love to slosh through the water at Opal Creek and we kayak several times a year. But I also wanted a shoe that I could go from kayaking to hiking a trail. These are absolutely perfect for all three. They are so minimal that I love wearing them in the kayak. They are thin and dry quickly so I can slosh through the water all I want. And the trail glove 4's now have enough of a rugged sole that I can hike just about any trail and not hurt my feet! I bought two pair on sale and I love taking them on my adventures. Perfect shoe for me that does it all.

They fit very well. Tread looks strong. They are snug around my instep, which I didn't realize I'd like, but I do. The tongue is attached to the inside edge of the . . . opening? foot hole? ankle collar? which I'm not totally sold on, but the wife says it looks cool, so who am I to argue.

Love this shoe! It literally fits like a glove and is so incredibly comfortable. I’ve worn it every day since I got them about a week ago and there were comfortable from the first day with no breaking in necessary.

Awesome shoe - could be used as a casual shoe or activity shoe! Comfortable level is great and the shoes are as light as a feather.

Just bought these for my husband to replace an old pair of Merrell's he had for
Right out the box my husband loved the look of them. He is normally a size 12 but I got these in a 11.5 because 2wks ago I had gotten him the vapor 3 in a 12 which fit but he said they could be a smidge smaller. He tried on these Trail gloves and the 11.5 was perfect. Trail glove felt closer and looked closer to his old merrells and upon coming back from a weightlifting session with them on he said the performed like his old ones.
Guess I now can retire the old ones to the garbage can and maybe order a 2nd pair of these for back up lol.

Love the style and fit of this shoe. Its a men's size because I couldn't find a women's size that fit. I love them, and would love them even more if I could get them in the color options for the women's version. C'mon Merrell, size your shoes correctly (women's 11 feels a full size smaller) and offer a women's size 12 like your competitors do.

I ran about 750-1000 miles in these shoes over the span of a year. They were a pleasure to run in, and dries quickly whenever they got wet. But they provided more padding and cushioning than the previous trail gloves, to the point that they verged on not being barefoot shoes anymore by comparison to older trail glove models.
I just replaced these shoes with the Vapor Glove 4 in the hopes that the vapor glove would provide the true barefoot experience I had come to know from earlier versions of the trail glove.
Conclusion: the trail glove has kept increasing padding and cushioning over the years. It’s still a great shoe for those transitioning to barefoot running. For true barefoot running, go to the vapor glove.

Very happy with these shoes. I go on a 3 mile walk on a gravel/dirt path every day, and these shoes are perfect for my needs. For overall feel, I would compare these shoes to a pair of Vivo Barefoot sock type shoes I've had for about a year. They are both comfortable, but the Vivos suffocate my feet and I have to take them off after my walk. The Merrells, on the other hand breathe and stay comfortable all day. I would also give the Merrells a higher grade for their Vibram soles that seem a little more firm and stable. Although I've seen hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail wearing this type of shoe, I would be cautious about wearing a barefoot for long hikes or walking on rough ground. But I'm no expert there. This may be personal preference. when it comes to feet, we're all unique.
I'd also recommend:
For hiking, Oboz. For quality fashion footware, Frye. Western boots, Lucchese.

Fit great and are super comfortable. Top breathes pretty well. First pair of shoes I've had in a long time which didn't give me blisters while breaking them in.

I'm writing this because I just ordered my third pair and feel the need to endorse one of the only shoes to fit me well in years. I need a snug shoe that accommodates my narrow feet, and I like to feel the ground. I work on ladders a lot and the barefoot design helps in that regard -no bulk. It took awhile to get used to zero drop heels-my knees had trouble with that transition. Personally I don't run in them but I find if I try it's jarring on my knees. The sole is great but so minimal it wears out a little quickly and you feel the impact of walking too much. A size 11 fits me perfectly (my true size) but very close tolerance so shoe-to-shoe there's sometimes enough difference that. the fit is off. If "ground feel" and lightweight are important to you, consider this shoe.

Fit is great. Building quality is excellent. Less road/ground feel than expected and compared to the first generation of trail gloves. Definitely slippery on non-trail surfaces (read cement) when it's wet out.

Fit great and are very comfortable. Just enough padding/thickness on the bottom to protect my feet without feeling like I'm disconnected from the ground.

I have a pair of Gloves 2 but wanted something better for off-road excursions. And I wanted something that did not look like a pair of water shoes. These felt perfect on the foot from the first slip on. They are equally comfortable in the home, around town and on a hike. I wore them on a very hot hike and can attest that no rocks, pebbles or sticks entered into them even on a dusty rocky trail under duress. They did not slip on my foot or the rocky trail and I never felt sharp rocks through the soles either. They seem very durable yet breath well without socks.
I did order a half size smaller than my usual 9M and it fits like a “glove”. I replaced the standard laces with black ones to better match most things.

These shoes might be my #1 minimalist shoes of all time. They provide me with just enough support and protection for running and parkouring through urban and natural environments while still allowing for some ground feel and sole flexibility. Toe box is adequately sized for my wider-than-average fert. Plus they don't make my wallet cry like Vivobarefoot shoes do. Anyone looking for more ground feel and a thinner sole should go with the vapour gloves, but for my purposes these are the best option. Owned 3 pairs so far. Unless Merrell discontinues them, I'll buy more in the future as well.
I'd also recommend:

Great fit. Usually wear a 9.5 in merrel and others but found the 9 perfect in this shoe. Exchange was next day so no worries to get size right. Was hesitant about going barefoot cuz of sweat and Funk. Have been camping three days in warm(70f-80f) weather. My feet sweat less in these than other regular style shoes with socks. I’m probably going to be a barefoot and minimalist shoe wearer from now on for a handful of my recreation and social activity. They look great with shorts and jeans. I’ve bike, jogged, hopped around on rocks, gone shopping in, and just relaxed around the camp ground in them and always smile when I look down because of the new style I had previously not tried. At about $80 I think I’ll get my wear out of them, never haven’t in merrels. Again, versatile shoe. If you cycle and mix that up with hiking and Dickin around on trees and rocks this covers all bases. I don’t clip in to pedals just use a nice studded pedal and these are great. Comfortable and I like the slim profile of outer sole it’s like precision contact with the ground. Great balance and feel. Wordy review I know. Enjoy. ??

I’ve owned every rendition of the trail glove since they came out in like 2008 or whatever. This is my favorite version of this model. I got the vertiver color with the weird gum sole instead of the regular vibram sole because it was on sale. After running a few miles on some muddy and rocky trails, I like the gum sole version better than the vibram sole. There were zero slippages. Pretty impressive. The upper is awesome too. It’s feels like one piece of fabric wrapping around your foot, like a foot burrito. Nice and snug. Cool design, but it catches your pinkie toe when you’re slipping them on if you’re not careful. Dope shoe. Will continue to buy only trail gloves for trail running.
