Can't go wrong with this piece. Super stretchy, surprisingly warm, great temp range, surprisingly good water resistance.

This will replace my down later on back country trips. Almost as light, and no risk of getting wet without losing insulating capacity.

A great jacket for hiking. Light, versatile, warm. A jacket you should keep in the car, just in case. You are well covered with this one. I also like OR's colors. They aren't boring, but also not screaming. So you can wear a red jacket, even though red isn't your favorite color. A good price also helps... OR has good sales going on some times. I bought all my stuff from them at a really good price... almost a no-brainer.

Great mid+ layer, and also great on its for all the "in between". Very cozy and comfortable enough for around camp or even the living room. I especially like the fit. I'm 5'11 175 lbs, with a long arms and long torso. I go back and forth between OR mediums and larges. The large Ascendant hoodie fits me great. For context, I'm also a large in the Echo hoodie, but more of a medium in their outer layers like the Ferrosi jacket.

I tested this jacket in Colorado and at 13,000ft elevation, windy, and cold this jacket did the job perfect. I will buy one for my daughter. Recimended

Love this jacket. I wear it around town, comfy even at home and great for post paddle trips in colder trips. In doing the Seventy48 race last year, had to keep my gear to a minimum on a 17' sup. I brought this jacket as one of two (other was a OR puffy) to help keep warm during chilly night time breaks in a bivy with no sleeping bag. It sheds water and wind and is comfortable enough to sleep in. Love the blue/orange color option.

Very comfortable, light, and I really like the open hand pockets. Doesn't look overly techy.

I bought this for a mid layer, but it's remarkably warm on its own with just a t-shirt underneath.

I was looking for an OR alternative to the Patagonia Nano Puff and this Ascendant Hoodie is it. Super light, super warm, and just so versatile. I am very impressed with the temperature range that I can wear the Ascendant, I have worn it in mid-20's to mid-50's casual wear and active use cases in the 30s-40s. All winter I reached for this jacket over my OR Transcendent down jacket, which surprised me that this lightweight jacket could handle the cold & wind of December. It also packs down well for travel, chest packet is handy, and I am cool with the easy access, non-zippered handwarmer pockets. I sized up to a Large since it is a Trim Fit - so it is not true to size if you are normally an OR medium like me and want to wear it with more than a baselayer. For perspective, I can fit an OR Kulshan flannel under this by sizing up to the large. I hope OR always makes the Ascendant line just like how the Transcendent line has been around forever. This is a keeper!

This is my second ascendant jacket because it is so versatile. I can wear this from trailhead to summit because of its breathability and wind resistance. Overall, the best and most comfortable mid layer I have ever owned.

The Ascendant Hoodie is a superb piece of gear. It is my go-to layer for the majority of my outdoor activities. I am a professional guide and work in the San Juan Islands, Olympic, Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon National Parks, and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. The Ascendant transitions between environments and climates perfectly. It breaths when I am exerting myself, rarely gets too hot, and sheds most of the Northwest's rain for as long as I need it to. The main activities I use it for are: hiking, mountain biking, and climbing. When bushwacking I am conscious not to snag the jacket on pointy limbs. For climbing I don't drag the material over rough rock. I implore you to continue offering this incredible piece of gear!

One of my favorite jackets ever! I had the version without the hood and absolutely loved it. Great for spring and fall, especially for activity. While not great at blocking the wind, it breathes great. Unfortunately, my jacket had a seam separate after more than a year of use. Outdoor Research's Infinite Guarantee gave me full credit for my return, but it's no longer available in XXL and has been discontinued. Outdoor Research PLEASE bring this jacket BACK!!!

Great year round layer for me in Alaska. I'm 5'10" and 160lbs. Worn about 14 times to far. I got this layer predominately for ski touring, so I bought the" Large" to fit over my base layer, beacon, and mid layer, which if often filled with skins or gloves. I live in Alaska, so it really serves as a mid layer for the first half of the season and as my outer layer for the second half. When compared to the a Patagonia Nano Air Hybrid, it blocks wind better, dries faster, is warmer and breathes better. It also goes on easier (the nano hybrid seems to get stuck on my under layers). The Pertex shell is still a bit fragile for alder bashing or spruce branches, but so far it's holding up. I'm tempted to buy another I like it so much.

I'm about 5'8 with shoes and 150lbs. I ordered a large and it fit great throughout my whole body. Not too loose or tight on my chest and arms. It was fitted nicely with the only exception of the sleeves being loose. It wasn't baggy. It didn't hinder me or feel restrictive as I had great mobility in the jacket. I think a medium would have been too tight for me. This jacket was perfect in my first backpacking trip to Havasupai with pictures provided. The outside shell seemed pretty thin but it was very durable in hiking, climbing down mountains with chains/ladders, crossing rivers that was waist deep, and did a great job beading the water out with the DWR finish when I hiked back out in the rain. The polartec alpha lining on the inside of the jacket looked interesting but was very comfortable on my skin. It kept me warm at night even when it got down to 40 degrees. It has great breathability, as I trekked down 10miles at 5am. It kept me warm but yet released the sweat out so I didn't overheat and feel soaked inside with sweat. In the end, the jacket didn't tear, surprisingly didn't stain and didn't smell that funky at all despite all the miles, mud, sweat, dirt, and rain on it. One of my favorite outdoor jackets!

I have used the jacket on 3 hikes of roughly 5 miles with 35-40 lbs, and of course just around town. I absolutely love it. Great fit and very light. The hood is especially useful due to the fit and warmth. Breaths well. The lack of zippers hasn't been a big deal as the pockets a very deep.

Does a great job of insulating across a range of temps. Breaths really well, cuts the wind, lightweight. I sized up to a large though I often go with mediums. This has become my go to for backcountry skiing
