Fits a little small but otherwise love the jacket.

This is my new go-to jacket. Great for hanging around camp, making the final summit push, and everything in between. Incredibly light, breathes well, and excellent for layering.

I'm looking forward to testing this nice piece of clothing. Very light, breathable and water beads up and rolls off. Seems like it will be versatile and looks good, so should be good for casual and technical wear.

Nice flexibility through shoulders. This is a super comfortable jacket. Great for being active in cool weather. I wear a Large in the Transcendent Down Jacket but needed an XL in this particular coat.

I'm 6' tall, 180 pounds. Large fits great. It is slim cut enough to wear under an outer shell, and is slightly stretchy for great movement. It hasn't been cold enough to test its warmth factor. But it's a great looking jacket. I ended up buying another as a gift!.

Yup, so far living up to most of the hype. I've only owned it for a short time but already I'm super impressed. First night I got it I wore it around the house at +27Celsius (do the conversion American friends, thats pretty hot!) to test the breathability and it was amazing! I got quite warm but never to the point of sweating. Ok, I thought, maybe this jacket just isn't warm at all? So, I wore it the next morning at about +14Celcius (thats much more mild) and it kept me WARM! I seriously doubted the versatility and breathability of this jacket, I'm a 'don't-mess-around' kind of dresser when it comes to outdoor clothing and I figured the claim that this jacket can be worn while stationary and while very active was a farce, but seriously, its like magic! The jacket almost magically keeps you at that warm-but-comfortable temperature no matter what! DWR is also very good so far. Look forward to wearing this jacket during chilly fall paddles and backpacking trips! Only thing I'm concerned about is the thinness of the outer fabric. I'm really hoping it lasts a good while!

As a guide on the West Coast Trail, i can say that this is the perfect jacket for the job. I've tried down jackets before owning one of these, but they end up losing warmth due to the humidity of the coast. So this is perfect for coastal hiking/ kayaking!

Some people will think that 5 F is too cold, well with this jacket those days of cold winter weather are more bearable.
I initially bought this jacket because I wanted the updated version of my descendant jacket (winter 2016) and it quickly became my goto for a lot of situations.
It looks awesome when wearing it to work on a cold northern Alberta morning when the commute is about 5 F, it looks good to go out in town for an after supper walk and keeps me warm and still comfortable enough when the walk becomes longer treks, and it is an awesome middle layer for when going to the slopes.
This jacket has become my goto for so many situations that it is hard to justify not getting a second one just so I can stop looking the same in all of my winter photos.

Jacket was recommended by a climbing friend who introduced me to alpine climbing a few years ago. Regulating body temp, particularly while climbing, and not sacrificing a protective shell is always a challenge.
This jacket has been used as advertised, as a mid-level shell while in moderate to high exertions in alpine environments. I loved the breathability while I perspired in cold/windy environments. When at rest/standstill, the shell manages to retain heat for unexpected stops as well as scheduled breaks. Despite winds, on or near snow packs and glaciers, I managed to always stay comfortable. High visibility color was great for others on team in low light and foggy environment to see me. Built in hood was a plus to regulate body temperature while in any of the above described scenarios.
When in a high moisture environment with high wind, I added a light weight gore tex shell over this jacket and felt quite comfortable at rest as well as moving.
If I needed to shed the jacket and stow it, it is extremely light weight and easy to mold to available volume inside the pack when not in use.
I am 6' 5" in height. Long and tall sizes are a must for me. The XL size was most appropriate and worked great for me. I was skeptical prior to purchase the XL size (usually too baggy and short sleeves). However, sleeve length did not disappoint and the body fit was not at all too baggy.
Love that it has a chest pocket, however this could be tacked/stitched in place so heavier items don't slouch in the compartment.
Thumb slings were way too small to fit comfortably for me.
I enjoy the jacket so much I wear it as a light sweater around the house.
Overall, great product, I would most definitely recommend this to a friend.

I wasn't sure at first that it would be as warm as it is. It's almost too warm for Arizona cold weather. Used it hiking in cool country and it breathed well enough to not overheat. Great just sitting around camp at night too. It's now a staple in my pack.

I love this jacket. Bought it in preparation for a road trip from NC to AK. My go to layer for cold weather. Bought a medium. 5'11 180 pounds fit perfectly. Packs up small. Carries light. Retains heat but dumps effectively. I never felt too hot or too cold. Hood kept the heat in effectively. Love the fleece lining. Bought the vintage color and am very happy with the look. Incredible jacket. Looking forward to putting it to the test against some more extreme conditions.

Fantastic mid layer, breaths as you go, warm when you need it to be. Only con is that it's not super packable.
It also fits better than a lot of the usual OR gear.

I had been looking for an all-round jacket for some time. I luckily managed to get my hands on this jacket just prior to taking a guiding job in Iceland. Where do I start, everyday use this jacket works perfectly on all occasions.
Cold mornings the Ascendant proves itself a winner, warming up quickly when moving and keeping the wind off your torso.
Light rain, the jacket holds up very well, it will bead the water off until the rain gets past a drizzle, at that point the soft shell doesn't quite handle wet weather.
As a lightweight insulation layer (because of the athletic fit) it works perfectly underneath a hardshell jacket, if you're moving around slowly it will regulate heat very well. I have had on occasions where it can get a tad bit hot underneath hardshells if moving a bit faster.
All in all, I couldn't recommend this jacket enough, I am a huge fan of the fit that OR stick with for their clients, for that alone I will continue using and recommending the products

Initially I did like this better than my old fleece layers but since I run hot I was always putting it back in the pack after a few hundred feet gain even around freezing temps. But I've grown to really liking it in certain conditions like when not on an approach for the most part unless its really cold or with a good stiff cold breeze. I did wear it and an OR Echo hoody base layer exclusively on an entire 2-day Kautz ice climb carry over this weekend from Paradise to Camp Hazard to the summit and down never put on another layer over it. Only negative was that it was sized about a size too small based on other garments I've had from OR and had to go up from a medium to a large. The large fits me like other mediums do.

I wore the Ascendant as a mid-layer on a recent Mt Rainier summit. We were going car-to-car in one go (no camping) so trying to stay light, and this versatile jacket was perfect between a lightweight Icebreaker t-shirt and an OR shell. It breathed well when I was working hard on the ascent and the hood was awesome to regulate my temperature as conditions changed--it adjusts to fit your head or easily stretches over a helmet.

The fit and movement is great. Snug without binding at all. Great on the chilly, early morning approach or heading out to dawn yoga. So far I've only had it in spring. But I think it will be great in the snow when my puffy is just to warm for active ski and snowshoe trails. It's as light as my puffy and packs down small.

I haven't had it for too long but I love the fit of this jacket and how lightweight it is. It seems to be very breathable in warmer weather, but haven't yet had freezing temperatures to test out its warmth. So far so good. I have several friends with the same coat who recommended it to me as they love it too!

Put this hoody on and you won't take it off. Very comfy, lots of warmth for how thin it is, has a bit of wind protection, and seems to breathe well. Awesome for layering, too light for a stand alone jacket in cold weather. Overall, very pleased.

This is my second Uber Layer. Even though the chest is a little tighter than the normal sizes, I needed the second one for the additional color option.

I first liked this jacket since it is so comfortable but fell in love with it for its performance. Even on strenuous approaches where you are stopping and going this jacket kept me warm when we stopped since it dumps heath so well. It is very compressible as well for the warmth it provides.

This jacket is amazing! I was looking back through some reviews I have done in the past and surprised that I haven't wrote about this jacket. I live in Colorado and have this jacket on non stop. I spend a lot of time out in the mountains and also hiking and this is always my go to layer. When everyone else is throwing on layer after layer at the trailhead I start with this jacket and a base layer and usually never have to change layers for most of the day. The fit is great and it is stylish enough to also wear around town. I have included a recent picture going up the Cristo Couloir recently and this jacket stayed on all day during a spring snow climb out here in Colorado. Amazing jacket which is on par for most every product I have purchased from OR. If you need a versatile jacket then this would be a go to item!
