Verified PurchaseReview for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I'm 6'4", 235 lbs, 44 chest size and I went with the L. I prefer more of a body fit with this jacket because the XL looked TOO big like a michelin man style. XL is good if you want to layer clothes under, but I plan to use this jacket individually, especially since it's warm enough. I'd recommend sizing down. Once you size it down, it looks a bit nicer where you can dress the jacket up. I enjoy the bomber style pockets and look, but wish the pockets were zip instead of button. Very warm, warmer compared to some of my other 550 down North Face jackets. I got mine on sale at half off/price match with zappos. At that price, I'd definitely buy again, but I'd have to reconsider at retail.

Great product. Quality may not be as good as previous versions, but still a great value (especially if purchased on sale). Sizing is a little big for me - am 5'8" / 175 lbs. and ordered a Medium. A slim version would make this near perfect.

Would like to return for a medium, but I wore it once to see if I could live with it.

Large feels to big in the body, sleeves are perfect. I'm 6', 175lbs and a 34waist average build and their sizing says I would be 29% happy with a medium so afraid to send this all the way back and wait for a medium for that to be too small and have to send that etc etc

I love this jacket. But, the sizing was off for me. I normally wear a Medium, sometimes a Large depending on the cut. This jacket runs BIG. I took a chance and ordered a Medium. It was HUGE. I ended up going with a Small which was definitely more form fitting, but not restrictive and definitely not bulky which is what I want. I can still layer a thin sweater underneath. For me, the small is perfect. It's plenty warm and extremely well made. This is my 3rd North Face jacket and I still have the other two because they are all so well made. This is my new favorite whenever the Polar Vortex hits New York.

This is a really well made jacket. I really like the style and it feels like it will stand up to the coldest NY winter. However, for the sizing is way off. The sizing chart said I was a medium. I have two other North Face jackets and they are both medium and fit perfectly. But a medium in the Gotham III is HUGE. I don't mind a little room to layer but this was just too much. For a bomber style jacket the sizing just seems inaccurate. I am going to give a small a try. I really hope it fits better because the jacket is awesome.

I wear this everyday this winter so far. I get up for work around 4:30 am and around western Maryland it gets pretty chilly. Down in the single digits at times. It's the warmest jacket I've ever had hands down. Fit true to size. It's stylish. Only complaint is the zipper seems a little small for the coat. The price is high but it's worth it if you need a real coat. I do wish the removable fur was real like the Canada goose coats. But overall this is the best jacket I've ever had. I can't afford $900 for a Canada goose Chilliwack. I'd be willing to bet this coat isn't far off from it though. I'm sure there are slight differences but overall a great jacket in my opinion, and like I said the best I've ever had!!! You work be disappointed!!!

I already have the Gotham II jacket, but I have a size small, and I really feel it's somewhat oversized. I ordered the Gotham III a few days ago in extra small, and it fits me perfectly. I have the Tumbleweed Green, and it is really "green". In the picture, it looks tan/beige and this is absolutely an incorrect representation. I had to knock off one star because of that. It's good thing the green actually looks quite nice, and I prefer it. So I opted not to return it. This is the best coat I've owned so far.

I was looking for a winter jacket when I travel to cold temperature places. The fit analyzer told me to select a medium. I'm only 155 lbs and I thought the jacket was a tad baggy on top. I wish I had a chance to try a small jacket. However, I thought a small size would be too restrictive, so I kept the medium. So far I really like the warmth of this jacket. Mission accomplished.

Full disclosure: I am about 5' 11" and 200lbs. I ordered a large and it was too big/wide. I like the jacket, but I thought it would be more form fitting. Anyway, I had to return it because it just did not look right. Not sure if a medium will do it. Cheers!

I purchased this jacket for the Montana weather. It still hasn't gotten very cold yet so I'm not sure how it will hold up in the middle of winter but the cooler days I have used it so far has kept me warm. It is a very nice and stylish winter jacket. I ordered the TUMBLEWEED GREEN/NEW TAUPE GREEN which looks like a tan color on the website but upon opening the box it is very much a lighter green color, I do like the color though so I kept it. Upon many reviews I ordered one size smaller (so an XS instead of a S). The jacket fits perfect on arm length and pretty form fitting everywhere else. It felt pretty snug around my arm pit area the first couple wears which made me think I should have gotten a small instead but after a few wears Im either getting used to it or breaking in the jacket. My concern with going to a small is that it is not as form fitting and Im thinking the XS may help hold in more heat during the really cold temperatures. Overall I like the jacket so far. I'll have more of an opinion after the true cold weather hits!

Ordered a large at first then read the comments and got a large instead. ORDER A SIZE SMALLER! The medium fit true to size. I am 5'11 186 and large would have been too big.

I bought this jacket in prep for a Montreal ski trip in February. The jacket was completely warm with just a couple layers underneath. Only complaint is it is a tad puffy, would prefer a slimmer jacket.

I read a bunch of reviews prior to making a purchase. The hardest part, for me, was the sizing. I am a male, 5' 6", medium/large build, ~190 lbs. I typically wear 42 Short, for suits, 32/33 arm, 36 inch waist. 17 inch neck. I ordered Medium size Asphalt Grey color (now having tried this jacket, I think I am right in between Medium and Large). - Size and Fit - The picture on the website can be misleading. My guess is that Medium size down jacket is sized different from that of Medium fleece jacket. it looks slim, but it's not. It's not bulky either. Arm length is good. It fit "perfect" in the arm pit area - in other words, there's about one and a half index finger worth of room between my arm pit and the arm seam. This is interesting since i have a fleece jacket from North Face LARGE size with similar arm pit fit. I imagine if I wear a thick sweater the jacket would feel really tight for me. Torso area is a bit bulky though. Not quite the Michelin man bulky, but not super slim either, which makes sense since this is a down jacket. Hood is nice and big and detachable "fur" feels great as well. The bottom of the jacket comes down to crotch area, and when zipped, it feels a bit tight around my waist/hip area. - Material and Finish - First of all, a very well made jacket, expected of a jacket of this caliber and price. No mis-sewing. No noticeable defects of any kind. Outside material feels stiff. I like it that it feels a bit rough and stiff though. Haven't had a chance to experience the water resistance feature of the jacket though. - Summary. Overall, I like it. Tested at 20 deg with a short-sleeve t-shirt, no problem (but then my tolerance level to cold temperature is higher than average folks). Even in the coldest winter, here in New England, I'll most likely wear long-sleeve shirt and this jacket.

I live in upstate NY so winters here can be tough. The Gotham jacket has stood up very well. I especially love the built in face mask. This jacket looks stylish and keeps the wind out, and is light weight. I got a size large and it's a tiny bit tight on my shoulders but the xtra large was too big. I can live with the snug fit on my shoulders but if I was using this coat for hiking I would definitely suggest going up one size. Other than that I love it and I would recommend this jacket.

Really good winter coat up to the low and mid mimus 20s. once you hit the mid minus the minus 30s you start to feel the cold a little, but not too bad. The built in balaclava like wind guard is a nice added touch.
