Coat is the best. I purchased another coat from a designer for $1,100. Sent it back. Quality was not good. Purchased the North face coat and my wife loves it.

I really like this parka and I think it's the warmest one I've ever had out of many other Columbia and North Face Jackets, and it looks good too. I think it is on par with the much more expensive Canada Goose parkas (and for half the price!). The temperatures in New York are in the single digits, negative with wind chill, and I live in a part of the city that is a total wind tunnel with winds that regularly blow people back on the sidewalk. This coat kept the parts of my body that it covered completely warm and toasty on my entire 1 mile walk to work. My only gripe is with the parts of my body that it DOESN'T cover and I think it should. Specifically, the coat ends about 3-4 inches above my knee and, as a result, the about 6" area between where my boots end and this coat begins were frozen by the time I got to work. If I were a bit shorter (I'm 5'6) or the coat a bit longer, I think it would be perfect. I also wish the hood were a bit tighter (or had the option to be tightened) as the sides of my face got a bit chilly, which could have been fixed by a tighter hood that I could pull in around my face to leave less of my face exposed. I'll fix this in the future by adding a fleece headband.
I'm 5'7, 135 pounds, hourglass shape, and got the medium as recommended, which is also my normal size in tops. I didn't find it tight in the shoulders at all and have plenty of room in the arms. I tightened the waist and like the more tailored look but I wish I could pull it in a bit tighter for even more shape as there is still extra room in the waist area on my coat. I overall think this is as flattering on an hourglass shape (and probably a pear) as any winter parka could be, as they're normally very boxy and make people with hourglass figures look dumpy ;)
I'm also hoping that the zipper holds up - it seems sort of flimsy and has already unzipped itself from the bottom once when I sat down.

Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She is 5'4 about 120 pounds (an adult), bought size small. She normally wears an extra small, but I bought it in small since other reviews indicated that the coat ran small. It was too tight in the shoulders/arms so had to be returned.

I love this coat but it was not designed for hips! I normally wear a medium but I ordered a size up because I wanted to be able to layer and it's too snug to even zip. The sleeves run a little long so if I were to order a size up (again) I think it would be enormous. It's unfortunate since it is a women's coat, it really should be designed for women!

I got this coat to wear when I travel to cold places. It keeps me very warm and is comfortable to wear, although slightly bulky. It does run a shade small so you might want to size up, but it is well-made and will keep you warm.

I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas present. She lives in the nyc borough of the Bronx.
NY has cold winters and even this week it's been in the low teens. She commutes to work on the train and has to wait for the trains outside on the windy cold platforms. This coat was a huge blessing for her. It covers her legs and is very, very warm and is great in all elements of weather. I highly recommend!

have difficulty zipping up, hoping this is because the coat is still relatively new - hopefully it will become smoother with more wear

The zipper could be better. It needs to be more sturdy.

I ordered this coat in an XS despite the fit finder recommending a small. I am 5'5" 125lbs, 25" waist, and wear 32A which also fits the NF's sizing chart guide for XS. My previous North Face parka is an XS and fits perfectly and I can wear sweaters underneath. The coat is beautiful, I got it in the new taupe colour. I find the only place it feels a bit too small is at the seem under the armpit/over the shoulder. Also couldn't fit a large sweater comfortably underneath. This was very disappointing. I then decided to order a small for comparison as the fit finder initially recommended.... and it's HUGE! The small looks terrible, way too big. I'm undecided now weather I will keep the XS or not, but the S is definitely going back. Additionally, the seam in hood that allows for the fur to be removed is very rigid and hard and I find it actually hurts my head, especially when I tuck my chin to my chest as I would naturally do in the face of cold Canadian winter winds. This cost is beautiful and I want it to work, but I'm not sure it's going to. Very disappointing.

I have lived in northwest Montana for 12 years, and this coat is the warmest one I have owned since I moved here from the North Bay Area of California. I love the style of this coat too! Sometimes it is hard to get the zipper going, but it seems like a sturdy zipper. The main complaint I have about the coat is that, when it's all the way zipped up with the hood in place, it's not comfortable. I think the coat should have been made with more room in the head and face area. I usually don't zip it up all the way because of this problem. Overall, it's worth any idiosyncrasies. It's breathable and blocks the wind really well! I own it in New Taupe (basically army green), and I love the color!

Nice looking coat, but the inside lining is very thin and cheap and the down insulation is constantly poking out of the interior lining. I prefer to wear dark-colored cashmere sweaters during the winter but they have become entangled with small down feathers and a real pain to remove. Due to this problem, when I wear this coat, I can only wear light colored sweaters, otherwise I'll look like a slob with tiny white feathers stuck all over my sweaters. Very frustrating! Otherwise, it is a warm coat and keeps me warm in Maine. Do not buy this coat if you mostly own dark winter clothing. I wish that after spending so much money on a coat, that the inside lining wasn't so cheap. The fit is also odd as others have pointed out. The chest is too small, which makes you have to order a size up and then makes your hips look too big.

Absolutely love this jacket! It is very slimming and looks great! The faux fur is a lovey silver color and good quality. The top is a little tight, but I feel like it has gotten more flexible and comfortable over the weeks I have had it. Love the build in mittens (too short for driving, but great for walking) and the pockets are nice. I am a size 8, apple type and the medium fits snug but great. The neck has a wonderful puffy band that keeps your neck so warm! The top is a bit ridged by the chin, but it's worth the warmth in my opinion. Overall I am super happy with this purchase so far. I've been out in the city (Boston) in very cold, windy weather in the teens and this coat was a life saver!

This coat is amazing. I live in northern Wisconsin and it gets pretty darn cold up here. I compared this coat to the Arctic parka by Northface and for me one of the major differences, aside from this coat having more pockets, was that this coat does not have a detachable hood. Because the hood is fixed, the neck is a lot more plush and when you zip up the front your neck is a lot warmer! I love that. However, I will be exchanging mine for a larger size because for some reason the upper arms near the armpit are cut much tighter than other Northface larges. The arctic parka and the metropolis parka larges fit perfectly in my upper body. I am disappointed and I hope this works out because if I go up a size just for more space in the arms, I am afraid the rest of the parka might become too boxy. I am 5'8" and 147 pounds. I am tall with an athletic build and large chest. I purchased a large and usually wear a medium in women's tops as long as they have some stretch to them. If they have no stretch, then I usually wear a large.

Jacket is fantastic. I go to school in the tundra and have never been cold in this jacket. So warm, waterproof, many compliments about the style. Would compare to a Canada goose but not nearly the same amount of money, same quality. Get this jacket!!!

I live in Michigan and knew at the start of the winter season that I wanted to invest in a good parka. I did a lot of research on different brands, and initially ordered a parka from Columbia. I was very dissapointed that the parka did not match the stock photo, so I returned it and ordered this Northface parka instead. I am 5'9 and 170 lbs so I went with the XL because other reviews said it ran small and I wanted to be able to wear a sweater underneath. I was again dissapointed when I received the parka, as the size was much too large, and even with cinching the waist in, it looked like I was drowning in it. I exchanged it for a Large, which I kept, although it does feel a bit more snug then I would've liked. The parka is pretty heavy, but it does keep you very warm. I just shoveled snow outside today, came back inside, and I was sweating underneath. I think the pockets on the front are not in the right spot.. they are too far up, so it makes it a little difficult to take things in and out of them. Although I am tall, I was also a little dissapointed with the length too, as I wish it had come all the way to the knees, but instead comes a few inches above the knee. Overall, I liked the coat enough to keep it, but there was also lack of options for a name brand, heavy-weight parka that didn't cost $1,000. I do think NF could improve the fit of this coat for how much it costs.
