I had another Northface jacket similar to this one but without a hood. I purchased this one because of the hood due to rain, snow and wind. The multi color pattern on the most recent thermoball is slightly different from my older but has it's own character. The fit in the shoulders is a little more snug than the older one which felt slightly large for an XL. I am 6'0 and 215# with a slightly larger ahletic build but not body builder size. This NEW thermoball fits well and has less air space and feels thicker which will keep me warmer.

Nice lightweight jacket, very warm & comfortable. Only drawback is there is no way to tighten the hood.

Went to a stire to fit the Large and XL, the L is just right but wont give any room for inner layer and vest, since its slim cut I get the XL which is slightly big than I have thought.

Last years thermoball fit and looked like a garbage bag so I was hopeful. I ordered the matte black and loved to look but not the fit. This thermoball was tight in the waist and torso but in TNF's defense, it was advertised as slim fit. A fit somewhere between this and last years model would be perfect.

I bought this to replace my worn out, 10-year old Patagonia Down Sweater (hooded). I probably would have purchased the same again, but the price for North Face's similar model is easy to swallow. Anywho, a lot of this review will be comparing the two, and it should be known for fitment purposes that I am 6' tall with a slightly thin, athletic build. Pros This jacket is warm. It may be slightly less warm than the down sweater, but it still kept me warm while riding my motorcycle in 40 F degree weather in speeds up to 70 mph with just a long sleeve t-shirt on underneath. I like the fit of the medium size better than the large in the down sweater. Of course, it's a smaller size but I like the more tailored fit of the NF jacket, compared to the looser fit of the Patagonia, although it does slightly restrict my movement. The North Face jacket seems to be constructed a little better than the Patagonia. The seems appear to be better reinforced, whereas, with the down sweater, my biggest complaint was the fact that the threads dividing the down pockets broke way too easily. Also, the NF jacket just seems more substantial which was surprising to me when I first felt it. I thought it would feel flimsier, based on what I read on other reviews. Cons The artificial filler in the NF model doesn't seem to provide quite the same warmth as my last down sweater, but it's still sufficient enough to keep me warm on the coldest days with only a thermal underneath, whereas I felt I only ever needed a t-shirt under the down sweater.

Im 6'4" the Xl fit good. Wish it had more of a slim fit design, that jacket is a little loose around the stomach area.

This is a lightweight warm jacket which is what I was looking for, fitting from sleeves is a bit bigger for me, but otherwise it is good buy.

I took this jacket out to the Tetons with me, overall worked great and kept me nice and warm while up near the summit. The only con I can think of is the fit, it is tight in the armpit area and feels "boxy." Also, trying to wear a fleece under it was a no go, way too tight for that. I returned the medium for a large and it still felt boxy and tight in armpit area, and the sleeves were too long for me. I don't know why the hooded thermoball is slim fit, it is an outer layer and should fit a bit bigger so you can layer under neath it. Just my two cents.

I had one of these jackets from two years ago. The new one fits smaller sent it back for a size up.

Really happy with this purchase. Bought one of these late last winter, honestly didn't think I'd get to use it much and then we had this cold and wet spring and wore it a bunch in March and April. Outer DWR had held up to wet snow / light rain very well. I was a little skeptical of the Primaloft Thermoball insulation at first, but it proved itself worthy to me fairly quickly. Even with just one layer on under it, I was plenty warm in temps right around the freezing point. The hood and collar are fire. That collar zips up high, nearly to my nose, really offers a lot of protection. The pockets are great too. They don't look it, as they have the typical 5 inch or so openening, but they are huge inside. A classic 1 liter nalgene bottle fits in the hand pocket, with tons of room to spare. Also really like the hidden elastic sleeve cuffs. It's maybe a little heavy for the UL crowd, but my XL weighs about 540 g, and that's a plenty acceptable weight for me, especially considering the level of protection it provides. It's kind of nice, it has a little heft to it and feels a lot tougher than the real UL down jackets. Over all fit is a little funky I have to admit. If you're looking for athletic fit, keep moving on... I have broad shoulders and sorta some dadbod, so I tried an XL. It fits well over all, but there sure is a lot of room around the core. Like I feel like I could gain a 30 pound beer gut and it would still fit... good for layering I guess... I really like this yellow color scheme. I got compliments on it all the time. I'm guessing this must be a spring colorway, but I think it'll look just as good in November as it does in April.

This is a great jacket but I would recommend buying a size smaller than you usually do. The fit is a little large but other than that everything is great!

I been curious about this jacket seeing how many reviews it has gotten... so i was in a retail outdoor store saw one so i tried on my size XL now.The total length was fine the sleeve length was fine to but the overall fit felt little bigger then what im normal use to.It seem bulky so i tried on the large it fit perfect not to tight or to loose just what im use to so for me i had to go down one size to make. It fit right. For my use i use on mild days and as a mid layer it seems to work best for me like that i suggest to everyone out there before you buy it..If you getting it online make sure u can return it with no issue if you can find it in a store then try it on before you buy it

Got this coat as a gift from my wife. Perfect for winter and keeps me very warm even in harsh Midwest winters like we are having now. The hood I agree is too big but works great if you have a larger winter hat on. My only worry is that I’ll make a hole in the pockets with my keys. And I don’t like the fact there isn’t an inside pocket. I would buy this coat again in a heartbeat!
