In the last three months, I've carried and worn my ThermoBall Hoodie for about 300 miles of backpacking, hiking, snowshoeing and search and rescue missions. At just a hair under 14 ounces and highly compressible, it awaits undetected in my pack and it's unbelievable warmth shrouds me when it turns chilly. For the weight, it is the warmest and most versatile jacket that I own. The perfect place for this jacket was during late-fall backpacking in the Adirondack High Peaks. In the course of a day it went from sunny warmth, to drenching rain and then to snow. As the only puffy jacket I had with me, its hydrophobic synthetic insulation excelled where a down jacket would have soaked up water and failed. On other trips, I've purposely walked in freezing rain while wearing this jacket ??? though it was wet (duh) it still retained its thermal properties. Over the years, I've tried other synthetic-filled jackets but the ThermoBall is by far the warmest and I admit that I was skeptical when I saw how thin it was. Though in winter camps and belay stations, I'll still reach for my heavier down jacket, I needed something for layering. It is nearly impossible to stretch my rain shell over a thick down jacket and not feel like a giant marshmallow wandering through the woods. This ThermoBall jacket works perfectly layering though and I've put it to the test with single-digit temperatures. I can't wait till January when I get to use it for a few truly cold multiday winter backpacking and mountaineering trips. I received this jacket as part of the #TNFLocals #AMBSDR program and I've enjoyed doing my best to drag it through the mud, encrust it in ice and push it to the limits as I push mine.

I really enjoyed this purchase I made, just in time for the snow. Only time I put this thermoball jacket is when it's snowing. It really prevents me from getting cold from the snow nor does it build up on the jacket. Excellent jacket !

I went with the color TNF Black in size XL. Like others was skeptical of how thin this jacket is. I wear it everyday. It is very warm in 25-30 dergree weather in Ohio with only a t-shirt underneath. Feels warm and very comfortable. VERY lightweight. Has a classy quilted pattern. This jacket definately draws a lot of attention and compliments. Not as shiny as it was in other online pictures i saw before buying. Doesn't have the "bubble jacket" look at all. I can fold the hood in half while its up and it acts as a barrier from cold wind without being all the way on. Nice big pockets with zippers. I almost fit my 10 inch tablet in one! Almost impossible for things to fall out while sitting etc. Jacket also has adjustable waistband that can be pulled from inside the pockets or the outer bottom portion of the jacket. The coat conviently folds into its own pocket (with the jacket on, the stow away pocket is the left pocket with the stow tag). The pocket has a reversible zipper to close nicely. Just pull the pocket inside out and start tucking. An amazing feature for this jacket! The only downer I had with this jacket was that the main zipper did not have the red string on it as pictured. Instead it was black. Certainly not a deal breaker by any stretch. Worth every penny buying directly from North Face, as there are a lot of fake variants out there. I received it as a Xmas gift, by far the best jacket I've ever owned. Will more than likely by another color.

I have owned this jacket for abut a month now. I can honestly say I was skeptical of the extremely light weight fabric.... but to my amazement you can wear this is 30 degree NYC weather with a T-shirt underneath. I have also worn it in colder weather with a sweater or thermal long sleeve under it and I have been super warm. One of the best jackets I have ever owned....

I LOVE this jacket. I wasn't sold on the quilted look at first, but I have come around due to the jacket's functionality. It's super light weight and offers zero restrictions on your movement so it's great for exercising or just driving to work. I live in Texas, so i haven't been able to field test it in a blizzard, but it has kept me warm in windy, high 30 and 40 weather.

Just got the Thermoball hoodie and am very impressed. Really warm for the weight and if properly layered, can be used anywhere. The jacket does a great job insulating and did well in recent windy conditions. Used TNF fit guide and the fit is great. Highly recommend.

Very nice product and sporty looking. I purchased the light blue jacket that was shown with a darker blue interior but when received it came with a bright orange.

This jacket is awesome! Lightweight yet warm. Great for days in the 40's and 50's. It's great for travel because you can roll it into a small ball. Love the orange color!

It is still a bit early to fully review this, however, So far, I am nothing but happy with this jacket. Previously I owned a few jackets which were mainly snow / skiing jackets, and I must admit I was highly skeptical about this one considering how light and thin it was. However, I just wore it ( without any layering ) in low 20s and it was perfectly warm. Note: I was hiking wearing this and I think this jacket needs that. It wont be as warm if you are not active. It makes it the best jacket for hiking / other physical activity in chilly / windy weather because of its light weight. Wind doest cut through at all You can wear it in snow as well A LOT of rain might just get throught, however light rain is again fine. All in all i give this 5 stars... P.S. Main reason to buy this over the regular thermoball was ofcourse the hoodie :)

I finally got to wear my #thermoball that #tnflocals sent me a while back the past two weeks in Joshua Tree National Park. Never have I worn a jacket that has kept me so warm, but also not restricted my ability to climb hard boulder problems at all. On top of that, it looks great on me. It also zips up into its own pocket for minimal storage space usage. Most other jackets take up half the space in my pack, while the Thermoball hardly makes a dent in my storage space. All in all, I am beyond stoked on this amazing piece of gear and can't wait for future adventures with my Thermoball. I am also grateful to be an #ambsdr for The North Face so that I can have the amazing opportunity to try out amazing gear like this before it hits the shelves.

The thermoball gets the job done! As a North Face Locals ambassador, I was sent this product and asked to put it to the test. My initial assessment of the jacket was: compact, light, and very comfortable. Over the next few weeks I put it through the ringer in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. As an avid rock climber and outdoor enthusiast, it's important to minimize weight without compromising quality. This jacket saves space and kept me toasty even when we were out climbing in 20 degree temps! I would recommend this jacket to anyone. #TNFlocals #AMBSDR

This jacket is outstanding - versatile, warm, & compact. I received one as a TNF Locals ambassador but liked it so much, I purchased thermoballs for my wife & son. My thermoball jacket has kept me comfortable during early am Rocky Mountain hikes, foggy redwood runs, and long, transatlantic flights. Plus, it looks great. I would highly recommend the jacket (especially the hoody) to anyone for looking midweight insulation. It can be used effecitvely in many conditions - including as an outer layer in chilly, damp weather or as a midlayer for cold weather. #tnflocals #ambsdr

Purchased the thermoball hoodie as a midlayer for backcountry skiing and fall backpacking. This jacket packs down very small and is incredibly warm for its weight. I went with this over other puffies due its synthetic down, allowing it to retain its warmth, even when wet which is crucial for us Pacific Northwest folk. Haven't tested it out extensively in wet snow yet, but it held up just fine in our typical drizzle. It looks great as well, and can be worn casually. However, this jacket is very warm and I'm typically sweating in it with just a t-shirt on in any temperature over 40F. Lastly, as others have mentioned, the thread on this is fairly light, but I haven't had it long enough to review its durability.
