Have only worn 4 times since purchase (1month), the jacket definitely keeps me warm and dry, but the sleeves are way too long for my average (I think) length arms. Velcro straps help a lot though.

This is an excellent jacket for cold and wet weather. It is surprisingly warm for how light it is--I was still comfortable with temperatures in the teens. The only drawback is that the zipper is on the cheap side and has to be operated with care.

The coat is TTS, and the black is a very traditional "black" color. Husband doesn't like coats/jackets but said that this was comfortable and warm for being out in the snow.

Coat is super warm and lightweight compared to the amount of warmth.

Great, simple, and functional coat. One major gripe about fit: shoulder-upper back restriction (I am 6-1, 215#.) The coat is MUCH too small across the upper back causing restriction when moving arms. You can feel the fabric get taught across the back. This also leads to the sleeves riding up, which is an annoyance. The coat is a solid 5 stars, except for the fit. I had to return it for the Clement because it is sized better for me.

Amazing Jacket, just one small feature I would have loved on the down jacket end sleeve to have it elastic instead of open to avoid cold wind traveling up the sleeve. The jacket is beautifully crafted! Love that you can add or remove the hard shell jack based on the weather. Remember that the hood is not insulated if you are planning extreme cold/wind adventures.

Don't understand why such a good jacket has such a slight, weak, small, just junky zipper. It's just not the quality I expected from the brand.

It's exactly what it looks like -- a super warm down jacket with a detachable, windproof and waterproof shell. I haven't used it in sub-freezing weather yet, but I can tell you that the down-filled liner alone is more than adequate for temps in the lower 40s or upper 30s. (In fact, if you're wearing a sweater, you may get a little too warm in those kinds of temps.) The shell's "pit vents" are a great feature for hikes in wet, warm weather, and the placement of the jacket's tightening cords -- to tighten the fit at the bottom seam -- inside the jacket pockets is awesome. I ordered this jacket in large. The fit is solid, though a little quirky. I'm 6' 3" and around 185 lbs with pretty long arms. (So slender and gangly, in other words.) If it's any help, my dress shirts are usually either 16/36 or 16/37, so I often need a Tall in jackets or long sleeve shirts. The fit is fine in the body -- big enough to allow for layering (again, if you need to layer with such a warm coat), but not so big that it swallows you or feels boxy. The sleeves are ok, but a little odd -- the shell's sleeves are the perfect length for me despite my long arms, but the liner's sleeves are a little bit on the short side. Not short enough to be uncomfortable or compel me to return the jacket, but still noticeably shorter than the shell's sleeves. (I actually can see a little bit of cuff from my sweater sleeves when I'm wearing it.) Weird. But so it goes. And honestly, it probably won't be an issue unless you've got pretty long arms like me. Overall, I'm pleased.

This isn't a ski jacket. It's relatively tight. The hood isn't good with a ski helmet. The down lining is great. I wish to buy the lining and put into more technically sound ski jacket. The outside is great. The jacket is more like a hiking jacket, than skiing jacket.

I like it. It's warm and good quality, but it lacks in the feature department. Like my old jacket had internal pockets for my scarf and hat. This jacket does have things like that.

Used for Indianapolis winters. Not warm enough in my opinion. Poor quality zipper and ties. This is my second coat in less than 1 month and the zipper is already breaking down on this one too.

I'm not sure how TNF rates the "Warmth" of their jackets/coats, but this should NOT be a 3/3. "Water" and "Wind" both deserve a 3/3. This coat was not even warm enough for winter in Indiana.

I loved that this was a slim jacket, but had a down filled jacket inside. However, the fit is weird and unusual. I purchased a similar style TNF ski jacket in about 2006 (15 years ago) in XL. The sleeves fit well and overall was maybe just a bit baggy. I decided to buy a Large for this jacket since that is more true to my size in every other brand. Truth be told I didn't measure myself because I figured the sizing would be similar. For reference, I am 6'3" 180 lbs and wear a 34/35 arm length dress shirt. When I tried the large on the sleeves were way too long! Without tightening the wrist straps, the sleeve drowned my hand and went down past my knuckles! And if I tightened the wrist straps so it wouldn't go past my wrist, it bunched up awkwardly in the arms. Oddly enough the inner jacket sleeve length was about spot on. I'm hesitant to go down to a medium because then the inner jacket won't fit. I returned it and went to a nearby store and tried on a different style triclimate jacket (they didn't carry the altier triclimate style or I wouldn't have ordered online) and the large fit perfectly all around! Go figure.

Bought this jacket 8 years ago along with a fleece liner. Had to have two zippers on the shell replaced within five years. Now the shell's pocket seams are ripped out. Cannot get customer service to save my life. I just want to replace the shell.

Great and lightweight! Very chic color too looks great. However I feel that $200+ is too much for this.

I use this jacket for the winter months in Northern Indiana. Immediately upon arrival I thought it looked nice, the material seems that it will be durable, and it didn't feel too heavy. The fit is tight compared to other North Face products. I feel that it restricts movement. Not sure if it's something to do with the 3 in 1 but overall I'm not very impressed.

What keeps the Altier combo from being a slam-dunk 5 star ensemble are just a few cost-cutting details. But they are huge omissions. Firstly and this appeared on all prior TNF shells I've had over many years: collars used to have a soft material sewn in a triangular shape on both sides at the front, across the gussets that cover the liner zippers. With the main zipper nearly or fully up, this material meets the chin and/or lower cheeks in a very comfortable manner a real enhancement in the cold . Now, these have been omitted & replaced with a small rectangular strip along the RH side only. It is not effective and actually looks to have been added simply to provide the initial (and deceptive) appearance of functional detail. Worse, these uncovered gussets (just DryVent material as per the shell exterior) tend to become dirty very quickly. This is just pure cheapness, and I expect more from TNF. Other issues include the liner, which is almost laughably under-stuffed, with the collar (a critical feature) being particularly flaccid. And there is no internal pocket in either the shell or the liner. (From the photos even the more expensive Gore-Tex version "Mountain" has lost these collar features too. I would have purchased it instead and happily paid another $100 to have what used to be standard on TNF shells.) The hood is a bit on the cheap side older TNF hoods had better shaping control and some even had elastic to help keep the hood in place without resorting to adjusting the cords. it is actually a plus that the hood is not detachable as these connections usually leak cold air. Finally, a "warmest" rating on the graphic scale shown absurd. Perhaps if the liner were actually stuffed properly this might hold. But without significant layering most will not be warm below 30F. The addition of a detachable hood liner (while keeping the shell hood in place) would really be a neat idea. However - overall it's decently warm, waterproof & flexible.
