Cute jacket but way too small. Not true to size and I had a thin shirt on underneath. Size up one.

Almost love this coat, but don't like the back. Should be an opening. I felt like it was going to rip when i sat down without the slit there. Very cute though, just not exactly what i wanted.

This has been my go-to jacket for years. It is such a stylish rain jacket and I get lots of complements while wearing it. However, the fact that the hood is NOT detachable is a deal breaker for me. This jacket was perfect when on older models you could take the hood off and use the jacket for dressier occasions. I'm so disappointed! Another great addition would be a double zipper to make sitting in the jacket easier. This jacket used to be the most amazing jacket, but now it's just not.

This coat a an odd smell when I took it out of the package and fabric was noisy. Also felt the waist saps sat too high for me and overall was tighter than other NF mediums I own.

The North Face really needs to realize that women have HIPS. We're not straight cut. I'm a 28 waist with 39 hips and the hips are always to small in your clothing. If I size up then the clothing is too big every where else. Everything I've tried through this brand has had this same problem. The Laney trench, Apex bionic, Apex risor, and hoodies/sweatshirts. I really like the quality of your products, but sizing needs fixed.

TLDR summary: nothing special about this coat that warrants paying any more for it than about 50 bucks.
The "media-compatible" inside pocket basically means "tiny inner pocket on the left, uh, side of the chest, that fits nothing except an iPod from 2007". That's cool if you're into that sort of thing.
The outer hand pockets are strangely large and situated so low that they aren't all that comfortable. Nor are they warm, as they are lined with some kind of cheap, shiny nylon that does nothing for warmth - it would actually feel kinda gross if your hands got wet in the rain (which is where you're supposed to wear this jacket, right?)
Oh, and as others have said, it runs small. Super small.
Pass.

Had to return this coat because the zipper kept coming apart from the bottom every time I sat down. Disappointing because I really like the style, fit, and function.

I like this jacket a lot but I am too short so it looks way too big on me.
Also chest/arms area fits weird and that fit limits movement a lot.I use it when necessary only. I wish they come in petite sizes!!!

Love that this coat has a hood for rainy days. Pockets have zippers for security, phone, keys. etc.

I was looking for a waterproof and warm coat for a trip to Paris. I didn’t want a bulky parka either. I’m typically a large in coats due to my muscular shoulders. For reference I’m 5’1” with a curvy athletic build. I’m glad I listened to the other reviewers, and I ordered one size up, an XL. I’m glad I did because this coat has zero stretch. Unfortunately I will have to return this coat because I was drowning in it. It came past my knees, and had a lot of extra fabric around the body - except the shoulders of course. And, the black fabric felt like a mix between felt and velvet. It was very odd feeling.. though not as bad a true crunchy waterproof jacket. Bummer.

This rain jacket had nice features and I liked the outer fabric. It had a little heft that I thought would add to warmth. It just ran small in width and adjusting the side tabs didn't provide enough extra space for a sweater underneath so I'm returning

usually a TNF xlarge fits me perfectly, but this time the proportions were all wrong. the design seems too suburban for such a practical garment.
great service as usual. thanks.

This is a very attractive jacket. Unfortunately it fits small and I’ve tried a size up and it looks sloppy. The snaps make it so it’s too tight and left undone it looks sloppy. For a thin coat it costs too much even on sale.

I wore this jacket only a few times and the zipper started popping open from the bottom. I didn't like that the jacket doesn't have a two way zipper, but that wasn't quite a deal breaker. But there's no way I'm going to d#ck around re-zipping it every 5 minutes! Also a bit of a problem is the sizing -- it runs really small. I had to buy an extra large. Normally I wear a large to get more sleeve length for my long arms, but I'm actually a size medium, so it's strange buying an extra large.

Jacket is great and fits well and looks great BUT The zipper needs to be better quality. It splits from the bottom every time I sit down and I sized up so the jacket isn't too tight. I'm upset that I paid full price. May have been better if it was a two way zipper??

I was REALLY excited about this coat and was initially thrilled when I put it on, as I've been searching for a longer, layerable rain coat for winter in Europe. First, the pros: It's a great, flattering shape. It's very comfortable, a good weight for mild but rainy winters and those wet fall and spring days. It's got a good feel, and the fabric of the dark gray option has a subtle texture that looks SO classy. I'm 5'8"/190lbs and ordered the XL, which had just enough room for my average hips/butt but not much extra. It was roomy (though not overly large) in the top except for the waist (more on the belt later). There's a lot to like (even love!) about this jacket, but for me the cons outweigh the pros. First, the zipper is one way. That's a dealbreaker for me. A coat of this length at this price point should have a two way zipper. It's just common sense that I'd like to sit down comfortably while wearing it. Second, the sleeves are weirdly long. I have long arms but the sleeves almost reach my fingertips, and it makes it weird to put your hands in the pockets since the fabric of the sleeves gets in the way. Finally, the strangest dealbreaker: the belt. As you can see in the photo, there's an adjustable belt in the jacket that snaps at the sides. You'd think the coat's loosest snap setting would be not (or hardly) cinched at all, but even the loosest snap setting has the jacket quite cinched up at the waist. This limits your ability to layer underneath the jacket. If the belt had a looser setting (it's long enough to have another snap setting, but no!), the coat would have plenty of room for a bulkier sweater or sweatshirt! Since the loosest setting is already a bit tight, it might as well not be adjustable at all. Overall, I love the jacket but I'm not willing to compromise on a two-way zipper and the belt is not as it should be. (Worth noting: if it weren't for the zipper, I'd keep the jacket and sew velcro onto the belt for a looser setting option.)

Very stylish and functional. However, the fabric for this coat is quite unfortunate. The black TNF laney II trench comes in this "brushed suede" like fabric. Its unlike their other traditional trenches in the past (which I prefer the other fabrics). EVERYTHING sticks and shows on this material. Also in the daylight this coat not only shows every speck of lint or hair but it also has this dull appearance. Yes it is very stylish but they need to make the TNF black one in the traditional trench material. I will be returning this coat.

I wear small in Northface jackets and this fit tight in the rib cage, the medium which I tried on in a store was too baggy and looked sloppy. It’s also not a warm jacket so you would want to layer.

I, too, loved the look and the potential versatility of this trench coat, but I, too, had to return it. The fit was odd. Although I usually wear a small, after reading the reviews, I ordered a medium, which I do sometimes need in North Face garments. There was plenty of room in the shoulders, but the coat was tight across the chest (and I am small in the chest). The sleeves hung down over my hands and I am relatively tall with long arms.

I have owned several North Face garments and expected the same high quality in this rain coat. At this price,I expected a double zipper to allow for more comfort when seated and to allow easier acces to inner garment pockets. The zipper also seemed to be extremely cheaply made and too flimsy for outerwear. It separated at the bottom very easily. Returning.

I really wanted to like this coat, I bought both the medium and the large based on the size chart. I have always warn medium in NF, for reference I'm 5'7" 140 with broad shoulders and slim hips. I really liked the length and the overall silhouette. I was looking for a light travel raincoat that I could layer for an upcoming trip. The medium felt restrictive and didn't allow much room for a warmth layer. The large was just overall big and shapeless on me, and the arms covered my entire hand. Sadly I will be returning both and keep looking for something suitable.
