They've changed the design somewhat. I felt "pebbles" on one shoe. Why change what's not broken???

Hard to find wide boots in the Hiking world! These fit perfectly! Great workmanship. Comfortable right off the bat- no break in required!! I'd recommend to my best friend or family!! Best part is they were not super spendy either-

I bought my first MOABs in 07 when I first came to FL because I needed comfort and traction on my daily walks. The original set I owned outperformed every other hiking shoe I'd ever had in my 20+years of hiking with my scout troop. Wet concrete was no different from mud or a clean dry road, those shoes could gain traction anywhere! I walked out three whole sets of socks with those shoes over three years before I had to replace them! Now, we fast forward to my (6 month old) current pair. The soles are worn flush, so no traction. The interior of the back of the heel is so worn that the plastic skeleton has destroyed a pair of my socks on both shoes. I use Wright Socks with a built in second sock as a liner for summer and Smartwool hiking socks with a liner sock for the winter. The toe box has decided to just warp for no apparent reason. And I have actually used this pair less than any other pair I've owned in the eleven years since my first purchase. It is such a shame when quality is allowed to slip like this while the price stays the same. Men with wide feet have few enough choices as it is, without being forced to find a new brand all the time.

Bought my second pair of Merrells for walking with my family at Disney World. By the second day, the balls of my feet were in such pain that I had to switch to my dress shoes for the rest of the trip. I normally wear a size 10.5 and these are an 11. I'm not sure if they are too narrow (I don't have wide feet), but they are unwearable beyond a few hours.

This was going to be my 4th pair of Moab Ventilator (wide) for hiking and everyday use. I have erythromelagia (chronic burning feet, even in cold weather), which requires as much ventilation as possible, and I had an unsuccessful neuroma surgery on my right foot, which requires a wide toebox. After years of trying shoes for a few days only to return them to the store, I finally lucked on these, and they are basically the only kind of closed shoes I can wear with only a tolerable amount of pain. I have one pair for yard work, one pair for everyday use and one hightop pair for hiking. Since they are starting to wear out, I was going to start buying a few more, but as soon as I tried them on at the store, I knew something was wrong: even though I got them in the same size wide, they constricted my foot, and the back of my heel could slide out of them very easily. I still bought them to see if they would improve (even though these never needed a break-in period for me), and only then did I realize that these were "version 2.0". It will never cease to amaze me how companies feel the need to change a perfectly good product! I know this is pointless, but if you have a few original 8.5W lowtop and hightop (non-waterproof) left in a corner of a factory in Vietnam, I will take them, cosmetic damage and all...!

I wanted to love these shoes. But as in other Moab 2 I've tried recently, the sole is like a piece of wood. It honestly feels like I'm walking in wooden shoes. And they are HUGE. Way larger than any other size 12 shoes I've purchased. I have bought and returned two pairs. Guess I'm done...

I owned a pair of the last Moab's for about 2.5 yrs of hard use and loved them so when they started to wear ( even though they still have a lot of life in them) a friend bought me a pair of the Moab 2 Ventilators. I've had these for around 6 months and the sole is beginning to come unglued from the uppers. Not super impressed!

I have bought several of this exact shoe and same size in the past, But now the shoe isn't as wide, (at the top)and isn't nearly as comfortable as before. Very disappointed, probably my last merrell.
I would NOT recommend the wide size if you need wide.

Merrell changed the shoe geometry on the Moab 2 such that the mouth of the shoe is now larger than on the original Moab. They also removed one of the double eyelets at the mouth of the shoe. Combined, this has resulted, at least for me, in the total inability to lock my heel down no matter how much I tighten the laces. I'm now getting hot spots due to the sloppy fit. The first gen Moab fit me really well and was my main hiking shoe for several thousand miles of hiking and backpacking. For me, the Moab (2) Ventilator (size 11, low, wide) is no longer a viable hiking shoe, and for the first time in a number of years, I'm looking at other brands.

Initially decent. But never really got comfortable to wear. In one year after minimal wear (~20 times) they fell apart. Sole separated from the fabric. Very poor quality.
MOAB 3 waterproof at least lasted me 2 years before disintegrating…

Walking in these shoes is like walking on concrete with no cushioning. My feet throbbed for over an hour after returning from a 3-mile walk. I was told they are using a new manufacturer.

I gave my original Moab first generation to Goodwill. I wear a 10 &1/2 and the 10&1/2 Moab was to tight at the toe for me after attempting to wear them several times. I decided to give Merrell another chance since the winter boots I purch From them fit great! I tried the Moab 2, this time an 11 based on past experience and they were much too big. I just returned them and moved on.

These shoes seem well built and fit decent but the insoles that come with them are garbage and they are not comfortable. I bought different insoles for them which I shouldn't have to do and they helped make the shoes more comfortable but for the money, I would buy somethin else

Own 2 pairs of the mid version of this shoe. They fit perfectly. Same size in the low cut were too tight. Had to return. Very disappointed.

Shoes are not very comfortable, not stable hiking in hilly terrain, not true to size runs small. I have worn this shoe for years but the new pair is not the same quality, won't buy again.

I've been buying Merrell boots for a few decades and the quality is not like it used to be. I bought the Moab 2 Ventilator for casual day hikes and they are much bigger then the size I normally get. But what made me angry and unhappy was when the super cheep laces broke while halfway out on a hike!

I bought my first pair of Merrell Moab II in 2014 wore them completely out in 4 years of heavy hiking. In 2019 I bought my second pair and these have been the worst pieces of dung I have ever owned. The same size as the first and they do not fit properly. They're crap and a huge waste of money. I switched to Salomon in 2021 and will never ever go back to a Merrell hiking boot.
