Pros: Extremely comfortable, hug the foot nicely (even with my custom insoles), good quality materials (cushy comfort inside), laces stay in place throughout
Cons: disappointed by the very modest cushioning (similar shoes by other manufacturers offer much more cushioning and a more comfortable ride)

The top of the foot portion is comfortable. The heel section is another story. Not comfortable at all. I had to buy Dr. Scholl’s foot inserts to help with the heel discomfort I was feeling. I have three other Merell styles and they are all fine. I think this particular style has some type of design flaw. My other pairs don’t hurt like this pair does.

Returned the shoes. They were too large. I have other Merrell's size 9.5 but these were too large.

I have used Moab 2 ventilators for years (I have probably had 10 pairs) and have always loved them. But the last two pairs I purchased I had to replace the pads and have notice that they don't fit the same.

I thought these shoes were heavy. I switch to the Moab Speed and they were perfect.

I can't really give an honest review, because I had to return them because they didn't fit right, upon arrival. All I can say, is that I ordered the shoes, and they turned out to fit one size too big all round, as opposed to the last pair of hiking shoes (Yakotas) that I had ordered with the same size. My previous pair fit perfect, but began to fail, so Merrell replaced them.

The shoe is top quality. The wide width is not clearly described, (ie; E, EEE or 5E) and I found it to be at least EEE which was way too wide for me. I returned and got same size in regular width, which ends up being amply wide. Wear them to work. Great so far.

Had several pairs of Moab prior to this and always happy with them. This latest purchase of Moab 2 has been a disappointment. Purchased my usual size 12 medium men's but the fit is off. Seems have more room in the front of the shoe and not particularly comfortable to wear. Not satisfied with fit and feel.

Shoe is great but the back of show where your heel goes, the cloth comes apart after 3-4 months.
Hoping that will be fixed,

Very comfortable from the first wear but worn out after less than a year with only a moderate amount of walking done. Tears in the material in the rear inner wall on both shoes. Will try to get them patched somewhere.

Good quality but the size is huge. I usually buy 11 size, I bought 10.5 wide and is very big, went to a store and tried a 10.5 M still to big. 10 maybe good fo me but a vacation in Colorado can't wait for me to buy another one. Lost the time to return it. Will try a 10 later in the near future.

I figured these were heavier than i wanted. And from the picture, they looked to be slip on. They are not. Wish they would tie them with a bow if the are not slip on.

For some reason Merrell no longer seems to make those awesome insoles. Last 3 pairs, the insoles are cheaply made. Nowhere near as nice as they used to be. Thin, come loose and fold after a month or 2. They used to last forever. I will still give it 3 stars, as once I buy insoles (from another company), I will have an awesome shoe.
Excuse the dirt in the pic as they have been sitting, unused under the bed collecting dust.

I have been wearing these for years. This pair ran 1/2 size small making the toe box too small. Had to donate them

The sizing seemed perfect, but they were very uncomfortable - specifically around the sole of my heel. I was very disappointed as I've been wearing Merrell boots for years and have never had this issue.

I've been wearing Moab Ventilators since before the Ventilator 2. I obviously like them. For me, the update to Ventilator 2 was not an improvement. They're still a good shoe, but I don't find the quality to be a good as the original.

Durable shoes, but the nylon eyelets are a common failure point after a year of daily wear.

These were for my husband, who is the pickiest footwear wearer. He has always bought Merrells in a 10 M, but these were too narrow, and much more narrow than his last pair of Merrills. So I am not sure if the company sent them overseas to make, and they decided to make them smaller or what. But thankfully you carried a W - so I reordered them in that size.

Still a comfortable, well made shoe. I be buying these for years. But, the last handful of pairs seem to be made differently. Something has changed and the quality and longevity of these just isn't there anymore.

Bought the Moab 2 Waterproof 6 months ago, wear them for about 1 hour a day for a walk around the park, noticed yesterday that my right foot felt wet. The protective toe cap has come apart from the base and water is getting in. Have been wearing Merrell shoes for years and this is the first time this has happened.

I cannot say I would make another purchase on this shoe. Pros is it is very breathable. It met my expectations in this category however the foot bed is to thin in my opinion. I am overweight at 250 lbs and the rock under my feet while on trail was very discomforting. No pack on. So even if I weighed in at 180 ish with a fifty lb pack on I am back at discomfort level. So maybe just a trail shoe for no more than 180 lbs and wearing no pack. I am going to look at some inserts for my shoe to try and eliminate this problem. You can definitely feel the ground under your feet. Merrill does warranty the shoe as I had an eyelet pull out and they sent me a new pair with no problem. Potentially a very good shoe if changes were made to the footbed. Love the air flow on the shoe Merrill. As far as recommendations, it would depend on who it was and what they were going to use them for.

These are durable hikers except for the insole. For the price, one would think Merrell could put in a decent insert. Both my low tops and high top hikers have to have new insoles for support.

I have only had my MOABs for about 2 months. I have not had them at and only went on a couple 4 mile hike in them. The stitching in the shoe is coming apart.
