Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
Great all around basic winter coat for moderately cold climates. I live in DC and this, sometimes coupled with a sweater, is enough to get through even the coldest days of winter. I like that it is a great price too.
This is my second Apex Elevation jacket, and I personally preferred last year's model with the detachable hood. The hood doesn't detach from this one. But everything else about the jacket is comparable.
I'm a woman who prefers the men's cut on North Face products. I'm 5'6" and 130lbs and wear the small with plenty of room.

It takes more than a few times out in multiple conditions for gear to get five stars from me, so just don't have the time in yet. The coat has the potential to be 5 stars. Taken on hill skiing twice, once in heavy snow and preformed wonderful. Thought about an extra layer and skipped it--no problem staying warm at all. Really like the upper outside pockets, very accessible, good zippers. Need to take off the hood if skiing in a helmet, but the cut of the coat makes that look nice and hood comes off easy. Several compliments on the style of the coat.

Great jacket, but more for skiing and snowboarding or a harsh cold. While was looking more for a light jacket.

I purchased this because it was listed as a soft shell/APEX material. It is not anything like the other 3 APEX jackets I have (I returned one under warranty because the zipper seals failed, and received NF credit.)
I gave it a 4 star review because it is a very nice jacket, but I feel it was poorly represented, and I returned.

My comment about the sleeves being a bit too long is probably only due to my slightly "shorter" arms.....

I was shopping around for around this price range and made the decision based on other people's comments. I was not disappointed. The fitting was great, I'm a tall guy about 6'2" and the large was great. The insulation is nice and the quantity of zippers is enough for me. Over all a nice jacket.

I have the woman's version of this jacket and love it. Bought this one for my husband for Christmas with the matching beanie hat. He skis, uses this jacket as his go to on all his outdoor events. We have always enjoyed all our North Face Products. Never disappointed. I had a parker that had a zipper break once. It was repaired and shipped back to me under the lifetime warrantee. Love that the company stands behind their products. I will always buy North Face without hesitation.

My husband love this jacket. Would like more in different colors. He did like it better with the hood removed.

I use it when the weather is bad. Only bad perks is the hood is a little to big and it has no pockets on the inside

I purchased this TNF jacket for the upcoming winter. Jacket fits well and feels great. A high quality looking jacket with windproof and waterproof features I'm looking forward to utilizing during upcoming cold, wet winter weather ahead. Love the removable hood and jacket collar that zips up to the chin. I'm sure this TNF jacket will meet all my expectations.

I bought this jacket for myself. When i got the jacket it's a little different than i thought. First, there no wrist cuffs on sleeve, and the inner pieces feels weird when i wear it! Second, the zipper got stuck almost to the top of the jacket, i have pulled really hard to zipped all the way up. Other then that i love this jacket. Warm, lightweight and stylish!

Bought this jacket for elk hunting. Its well built and warm, but there are no wrist cuffs on the sleeves, making it very uncomfortable. Sending it back for a refund.

I purchased this jacket from a Dick's Sporting Goods store. I was excited about it at first, but concerned because there are no wrist straps. Sure enough that turned into a problem, and I'm returning the jacket specifically for that reason. The sleeves of north face jackets are usually longer anyway, so why they wouldn't add the straps like they have on every other jacket, is beyond me. Sucks too because now I'm in a frenzy trying to find something with all the features of this jacket, plus wrist straps, that's not a 3-in-1 jacket. Very disappointed.

I have a couple problems with the coat that I might have considered to be minor if I knew what to expect when I bought it. Unfortunately, the product description claims that it has a fully adjustable and removable hood. The jacket I received has a permanently attached hood. This doesn't bother me much, especially because I'd guess that helps keep things well-sealed and cozy. But there is only one adjustment possibility (the size of the hood opening by pulling the brim down) and it's really not that effective. It needs the second adjustment normally found at the back of the hood to snug it down on your head.
I still like the jacket but I doubt I would have bought it if I knew about these issues in advance.

I really enjoyed this jacket! However, I had to return it because the zipper kept getting caught halfway through. Unfortunately, they did not have the same size and color when I went to the store to return it. However, this is a good jacket! I also have the tri-climate which I like

I own the Fall 2013 version of this jacket, and while it is warm for it's weight, there is something to be said about the wind resistance of the outershell after the material has begun to wear away and pill from very casual use (to and from work for 2-3 months out of the year). The material on the left side of the jacket's underarm area has now begun to pill incessantly, which is something I've never seen from a polyester shell.
I own several jackets and with NYC weather being somewhat erratic, I cycle my wardrobe accordingly, so this jacket does not get extensive use. I mostly break it out on colder/wet fall days and along with the failure of the material I previously described, the snap closures keeping the hood fastened to the neck guard constantly come loose. Sometimes all it takes is a gust of wind to do the trick and I'm forced to pull the hood back over my head. Most of the time, with the jacket fully zippered and hood in place, simply turning my head or raising my arm will cause the snap closure to pop open. Since snap buttons are hidden beneath a flap of polyester material, it is also extremely inconvenient to get the hood secured again.
This jacket would otherwise be a 4-5 star item depending on what your usage... but I find that the lack of sturdiness of material along with the hood issue, should temper any expectations of a customer looking to purchase for every day use.

I was excited about this jacket but it just doesn't fit right. I'm 6'2" and a slimmer ~210lbs. Size large fits decently around my body but is a couple or a few inches too short around the bottom to look right. XL length is better but then the jacket itself becomes entirely too baggy in the torso and arms.
