purchased this item for my boyfriend who does a lot of outdoor work for a living, he needed a nice warm coat and had gone through several disappointing ones. I stumbled upon this item was super pleased with it., he is now snug as a bug in a rug. definitely worth the purchase. and very chic looking( for a guy of course =) )

After purchasing and returning similar jackets from two of the other major outfitters because of poor fit/quality issues, I came across this jacket. At last, a jacket with all of the features I like such as: 1) A heavy duty, double zipper. 2) Deep, usable outside pockets. 3) A large adjustable zip-on, insulated hood (NOT the thin flimsy type held on by cheap snaps - that always falls off). 4) Ample sized, lined sleeves that don't bunch up your shirt sleeves when you put the jacket on. 5# Adjustable underarm vents. I normally wear a large tall, but the XL version of this jacket fits well. It is a little on the pricey side, but the quality is first rate, with an obvious attention to detail. I wore it for the first time this AM. Outside temp was 9 deg F, and it kept me nice and warm. My only suggestions would be more / deeper inside pocket#s), and knitted cuffs concealed inside the ends of the sleeves to keep the wind out. This is my first North Face product. If your other offerings are half as good as this one, you will definitely keep me as a customer.

I purchased this jacket for my oldest son who had recently returned to New England after 10 years in sunny CA. It was a huge hit! The quality of this jacket is excellent. The fit was perfect and he has raved about how warm and comfortable it is without being bulky. I could not be more pleased with this purchase or with the very helpful, informative, and patient assistance I received from the sales associate who helped me to select it. I would highly recommend this jacket.

I bought this jacket and took it to New York in 20 degree weather and rain. It worked great at keeping me warm and the rain off.

I purchased this jacket for my son. The fit was generous, good for layering. Unfortunately the zipper broke the first time he wore it.

Great fit and great jacket for cold and wet weather. I have longer legs and a shorter torso (5'9, 160 lbs.) - the fit of the size S jacket was okay on my torso but the arms seemed unnecessarily long. That's my only real complaint though.

When I took my jacket out of the box, it was extremely light, so I was terrified that it would not be warm enough for the negative Michigan temperatures. However, the jacket is very, very warm, and it has kept me warm in temperatures down to -15 Fahrenheit so far. At 30 Fahrenheit, it almost becomes too warm. Because of its warmth and body comfort (aside from the sleeves--they are too long and the velcro straps make the tips uncomfortable) I would definitely recommend this product to a friend. However, there could not be anything MORE WRONG with the hood. It is absolutely awful. First of all, it is ridiculously small. When pulled over my head, it barely makes it to the edge of my forehead and as a result is skin tight on the back of my head. As a consequence, I cannot turn my head more than 20 degrees in either direction. The turning of my head is completely restricted by the small and inflexible hood. If I try too hard to turn my head, the hood falls back. Second, the "ball cap," visor-like style front of the hood is laughable. I see what they were going for, but they have miserably failed. Because the hood is so small, the visor-like front drips water right into my hair and onto my forehead when it's raining. Finally, wearing the hood down is extremely uncomfortable. The heavy visor-like front hangs down into the hood and as a result continually scratches the back of my neck. This becomes an enormous problem when it's cold and raining outside. The hood becomes wet, and when you pull the hood down or turn your head causing the hood to fall back (not very nice in torrential downpour) the heavy visor halls into the hood an onto your neck, thus essentially pouring cold water down your back--a very displeasing experience when it's cold. It would also be a lot better if the hood were not an integral part of the neck. This pulls the front zipper flaps in to scratch your chin continuously. I had to turn the hood inside out to wear the jacket comfortably every day.

The color "climbing ivy green" appeared slightly more earthy in the preview picture. It fits perfectly and is a great lighter jacket for cold weather.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
Great jacket, would give it 8-9/10 I was deciding between this jacket and the northface gatekeeper as a medium weight winter commuter jacket in NYC. I ultimately decided to return this one and keep the gatekeeper jacket. Will explain why below first the pros 1)fit- fit is great i'm 5'8" 185 lbs and fits very well, only true complaint here is the sleeves run slightly long. I usually wear shirt size 16 32/33 sleeve length and the sleeves on this thing runs to my knuckles if I don't use the sleeve straps. But from trying on a few northface products, this seems to be done on purpose as they all run slightly long, mostly for gloves and such. 2) price- one of the more budget friendly jackets, but the trade off is less pockets (will get into this later) 3) material- the lining is fleece, which is great, adds an extra layer of warmth compared to equally thick TNF jackets such as the northface gatekeeper jacket, that has a more smooth liner, and supposedly thicker padding (100g as opposed to this jacket's 80g) but with the fleece, this jacket feels warmer. Also compared to the gatekeeper the outer shell material on this one is softer, which I really liked, and it didn't make as much "swishing" noise when walking cons 1) POCKETS!!!- the one true downfall and deal breaker of this coat is the lack of pockets. there's 2 side zipped ones and 1 chest pocket that you can access from the outside, and that's it. No internal pocket, which i guess is just a reflection of the price point of the jacket. Compared with the gatekeeper (which is a snowboarding jacket) which has 2 side and 2 flaptop pockets and another sleeve pocket with goggle/glasses wipe and an internal pocket and a mesh pocket, it's just overall much more functional for most people. But obviously the price reflects the extra workmanship going into the jacket 2)-lack of detachable hood- not much of a issue for me, but for some ppl might be, but again likely cost savings on TNF part. 3) lack of bottom zipper- but that's an issue with all TNF jackets that I've seen. So not much to do about that Overall it's a very good BASIC winter jacket. No fancy extras, so if you're ok with that it's a great jacket. I just didn't realize how much I'd miss having extra storage until I tried it for a few days.

Firm fitting so it's slightly restrictive, however, it's extremely warm despite the lightweight design. Very stylish. Waterproof. The hood is perfect for blocking cold wind. The print pattern is subtle and dressy.

This is a great jacket. It's warm and comfortable. I went with the measuring size that the chart called for but I feel like it is a size too big. If I had ordered a size smaller I am sure it would have fit great!

First time I've tried it on fell warmer inside &I love it, bought it at retail store. What I love about this jacket is that nobody on here said that you can remove (removed) the hood on this jacket. Specially I will be using this when I attend church and just removed that hood & looks a lot more an casual/clean jacket. Oh Ive forgot bought two of these Blue & Black in Medium Size for being 5-11 height and it's perfect for me. Other than that I love to buy more in different color...
