It looks good, it is light and warm. but Its a bummer that I cant get rid of the hoodie whenever I don't want to use it and have in mind that it is for cold weathers, thus if you wear it when its not very cold outside you'll be hot.

This jacket is not only waterproof but windproof. The warm on the jacket is perfect but breathable enough that you will not over heat.

This is a great coat! Love that the two pieces separate. Was up the mountains this past weekend and it kept me warm out on the quads.

This is a good cool weather coat. Once the weather drops below freezing the coat is a bit lacking. Great for Seattle rainy winters. Not sure the inside shell offers much. It's ok in rain but the rubber like texture isn't easy to slip over long sleeves. BTW the hood does not detach.

This jacket is great. It's warm and water proof. I was wanting the thermoball but then some kind of shell and this was the perfect combo. Plus it's way cheaper than buying a shell to just put over a thermoball. Keeps you warm and dry. Sizes are just a tad larger than normal.

It fits really well and it looks really good but it doesn't keep me warm when the weather is around 30 degree. The hood on the jacket is not insulated so I had to wear a beanie when it gets really cold. The front pockets are also not insulated so during the cold weather I had to wear gloves to keep my hands warm.

This jacket was great down to about 20F. Over the last 2 weeks I've worn this jacket in MN temps down to -20F and I can safely state that you will be cold in this jacket in extreme cold weather. The cold cuts through this jacket in seconds. I had to fail back to my old winter coat. I would recomend this coat be used in non-arctic climates.

Warm jacket for how light it is, but hands and head will be cold.

The jacket arrived on time and the XL size fit my broad chest well. However, there are a few small things that made me return it. For one, there are zero internal pockets, which is really odd in this day and age. I need lots of pockets because I carry a lot of things with me on a daily basis, and unfortunately TNF seems to be moving away from pockets like they are to be avoided.
And additional, the outer shell layer on this jacket is incredibly thin. On a cold day, putting bare hands in the shell pockets is extremely uncomfortable due to the cold. Other 3-in-1 jackets I've had put a minimal amount of insulation in the shell layer and some felt or other cloth in the pockets, but honestly these pockets felt slimy.
I'm returning this jacket hoping to find something as stylish but more practical for cold rain.

I purchased this jacket because I was tired of spending money and cheaper quality and bulky jackets. Enter the NORTHFACE TRICLIMATE Jacket. It was what I was looking for: lightweight, windproof, and waterproof. But this is what you need to understand, "This jacket is primary focus are active people." The Triclimate technology will be odd for those that are not used to it. Most people expect jackets to increase body temperature, but this jacket maintains the heat. What does that mean? This is not a "cozy" jacket like a fleece, wool, or goose feather. There is this constant state of "cool" that transpires in the jacket whether its 60 degrees or 33 degrees with wind and rain or even it being 20 degrees outside. I purchased my father a Nuptse Jacket also from Northface. It is filled with goose feather, lightweight, but bulkier than the Triclimate Thermoball. You are not susceptible to the weather, you are sufficiently comfortable, but it is different.
With all that said, "I LOVE MY JACKET." I love detaching the inner Thermoball insulation and use it for a brisk day or use the Goretex outer layer if all you want is Wind/WaterProof. Now, there are times that I miss the heat and there is a simple solution: longsleeve shirts or a fleece sweater. That has solved my issue when I wish the jacket felt warmer and still retain the ease and comfort traveling with such a lightweight jacket. To put it another way, when the jacket arrived I didn't know it was a jacket based on how light the box weighed.

Purchased this in store since my shipment was lost. It's a nice everyday jacket as it's lightweight, compact, and lightly insulated.
I typically wear a medium, but I found this jacket runs large. The small fits me much better. I like the fit of the inside liner, but even with one size down, the outer shell is still a bit baggy for my tastes (I prefer a fitted cut so there's no excess material on my sides).
The inside liner is lightly insulated so it can be worn comfortably all day around the office or in temps between 30F to 70F. I haven't had a chance to test in out in colder temps.
Downsides:
-outer shell it a bit baggy as mentioned
-zipper look and feel cheap
-Hyvent waterproof is questionable. All my other Hyvent jackets waterproof qualities did not last very long. I'd prefer Gore-Tex at this price point.

I'm 5 11" 190lbs with broad shoulders and longer arms, usually wear size L but this one I wore M and it fits well.
Having wore this and the initiator triclimate I can say that this one is mostly good for casual wear for mild cold weather. Both are thermoball triclimate but this one is lighter and thinner, the difference in weight is very noticible. There's more Thermoball filling in the initiator jacket.
This jacket is very simple. It has no inner chest pocket which is another deal breaker for me.
Initiator is meant for ski snowboard, has bigger hood to fit helmet (but u can adjust size of the hood from the back) and has skirt to keep out snow and lots of extra pockets.
I would get the initiator because it's more versatile and warmer, which is the main reason I want a triclimate jacket.

Jacket is as stylish as they come. However, a true 3-1 would be a jacket hat can be used 3 ways. This jacket (Medium) was super long in the sleeves (I'm a normal guy 5'11") when it was just the shell, therefor, making it really only a 1 season jacket (for me). It actually covered my hands completely when the liner was removed I've always been Medium in TNF products. I exchanged for a small and that fits perfectly without the liner, but a little snug with it in. Should be warm enough for MI winters/falls.

Good looking. The problem is, the zipper sticks. Up or down I could not get over it. It kept grabbing the lining of the zipper and within a day of use it tore. Returned the jacket to my disappointment

Liner was different color than I thought I was purchasing. Looked off white in picture but was dark silver when I recieved package. Would have returned but shell was sharp and not worth hassle of returning.

I really did not like this product, the inner layer felt cheap. It felt like I was wearing a garbage bag.

Salesperson told me it's perfect for Fargo, ND windy, frigid winters. I should have stuck with my 700 fill down jacket.

Shell is perfect. Stretchable, waterproof, windproof. The lining is the issue. It cannot stand cool temps period. It has almost no filling. The chest filling is pathetic. The sleeves contain practically nothing. The torso is a little better, but the area next to the pockets contains no filling. Conclusion: A shell only blocks snow and wind, and the midlayer should keep heat. How is it supposed to do that without fill?

Pros: The jacket with both pieces is warm and stylish. The outter without the inner is great for moderately cold/warm weather.
Cons: The inner part of the jacket, is not that warm and is not water proof.
Over all concept was good. Seemed to me like the vision was slightly lost along the way.

Too bad it's light grey, the website makes it look like a stone white, looks super cool. In real life, not so much. And it's lightweight/thin. Not solid like a ski jacket, the sleeves flop down like a rain slick, as opposed to the solid sturdy look on the webpage. Truth in advertising anyone? Try before you buy.

I received this jacket as a birthday present. This jacket is surely built for snowsports. The outer layer is high quality waterproof, with a neat triangle at the hood to stop water from getting in your face. Color and working ability are above and beyond.
The midlayer however, is not so stellar. Color and fit are vibrant and stylish. Thermoball is the issue. The fill is to little and to small. Although it holds warmth better than down TNF put way to little in. Its basically fabric(the fabric is quality) sparsly spread thermoball about a centemeter thick and then another layer of fabric. While you can still feel exceptional warmth to am out in the thermoball, there is to little for cold and especially windy conditions.
The jacket is good enough, but not north face quality. Outer layer is perfect and more. The thermoball layer valued at $199, is simply not what I expected.

Unlike the previous reviews, this an actual cold weather review.
I haven't had a chance to take this jacket out skiing yet, but the general walking around tests aren't good.
At 12 degrees Fahrenheit, with negative windchill, this jacket is simply not warm. The Thermoball insulation is only present in the chest, and there is next to no insulation in the sleeves. This results in the equivalent of walking around with an insulated vest on and nothing else. Columbia equivalents at this price range keep me warm at these temps.
This jacket is probably fine for skiing at 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but I won't be keeping it, as it's too disappointing for the money. It's more of an over glorified rain jacket, that runs a bit small.

This is arguably TNFs cleanest looking jacket and largely why I chose it over the Triclimate Snow version. It is the fifth TNF coat/jacket I've owned. It fits very well and is not bulky - another reason I chose this jacket over other cold weather coats. There are mixed reviews in regards to warmth of this jacket so I was optimistic that perhaps some reviewers were overly critical. Ultimately, I found the jacket to have a paucity of features given the price point, and it is not warm much below 30 degrees. I bought this for the dual purpose of a ski jacket and a coat to wear in Chicago winters. It would suffice as a ski jacket with base layers underneath, however it was not warm enough for my relatively short walk to work at ~20F. For reasons unclear, this website ranks it among its warmest jackets in the 'Benefit Ratings.' In addition to the lack of warmth, the coat has precisely zero features beyond the zip-out liner. For $50 more one could buy the 'Snow' version of the Triclimate Snowball and get 1. lined pockets, 2. two breast pockets, 3. goggle wipe, 4. heavier liner, 5. internal pocket and 6. a powder skirt. I would have at least considered keeping this coat if it came with lined pockets (or a free pair of gloves), or if it were much cheaper. I could not have been more disappointed in a coat touted as "warmest."

Coat looks good and fits good, but it is not acceptable for cold weather. Extremely dissatisfied with what this coat is vs what it was advertised as. Would like to return but customer service is not working with us.
