I purchased this jacket during my holidays to London in the new Arc'Teryx Piccadilly store. I already own a Alpha SV that I use while on the mountain but wanted to get an all round jacket for on the go around town but still solid enough to deal with our weather. I live in the north of Norway where the weather can change a lot. I love this jacket, it has pockets in all the right places and screams of quality like all Arc'Teryx garments.

I have owned over ten Arcteryx jackets and this one fits me the best and is the most comfortable. I LOVE the cuffs and hood size! Though I haven't tested in cold weather yet I can tell it will be great for aerobic activities in cool/cold temps (for Nor Cal). Paired with a good base layer, it will be my winter go-to jacket.

Great fit, comfortable. It will take lighter showers but not rain... That is , however, how it works giving you really nice breathability. Nice, slightly stretchy material. Good for higher output activities.

Fits me very well (5'9" and about 180lbs w'/stocky build) with a size large and there is definitely room for me if I need an underlayer (not too bulky of an underlayer though). Performs really well in wind and held its own nicely in a little bit of a downpour while playing in Glacier Park. The sleeves are a little narrow for when you're taking the jacket off but that's not as problematic for me given how I will use this jacket. I can see it being a problem for those engaged in more technical outdoor activities. Overall, this jacket is perfect for me and I can't recommend it highly enough!

I've been using this for 5 years and the seams have un-glued a few weeks ago after all that time. Giving 5stars because i've EXTENSIVELY used it for that period. It's hard to find a replacement piece in Australia. Might have go online to get one. Had hoped it will last a tad longer, i'm loving the softer older material.

It has great fit, really nice design and it very versatile for any mixed weather treks or just urban usage. It has always been very comfortable to wear. It can withstand quite a rain, but don't consider it being waterproof - we have hardshells for this, don't we? In combination with down jacket or just fleece it can be really cozy and warm and still feel very lightweight and comfortable. I really like the chest pockets, they are nicely accessible and I often use them for mobile, camera accessory or any other small things I can't fit to normal pockets while carrying backpack with hip belt. All zippers are very smooth and can be opened with one hand without any problem or glitch. Storm hood provides enough space for helmet and also space around neck - which I really like since it provide ventilation and when it's being cold or windy I use scarf anyway. Don't hesitate about the price, it's worth it.

Very happy with this hoody. I'm 183cm (6ft) & 78kg (172lbs) - size M fits me perfectly. Enough space for base & a mid layer (atom lt) underneath as well as easily being able to put layers over the top (atom lt & nuclei both go on fine over it, as does my hardshell). I've used it for high altitude trekking (EBC), scottish winter & skiing. Blocks out a good amount of wind - even the wind on the Cairngorms - but still breathes excellently when working hard. Provides good protection against light to medium precipitation.

Im 5'8, I went with a meduim; it fits great Pros: - Very water resistant (beeds as well as a hardshell) -Durable fabric for a softshell - breathable -AWESOME pockets, great size and placing -well designed hood -Great over all look -can layer an Atom LT underneath -trim fit, good length Cons: -the cuffs: they do not stretch, so it is a struggle to take off the jacket. -A little pricey for a basic soft shell Facts: -Ideal for 10 to -2 (C) weather -The picture of the jacket makes it look warmer then it really is, it has a very (very) light fleece layer -If the Sleeves were improved with a velcro cuff, the jacket would be perfect -Ideal for any activity involving movement I still, despite the cons, would recommend this jacket to anyone

I picked up this jacket last year (2013) because I was looking for something that was light weight and breathable for back country skiing. The jacket worked out better than I was hoping! It give great protection from the wind and snow but also breaths so you can still wear it while skinning up the mountain. I also found myself using at my go to winter jacked for walking the dog and everyday wear. Probably the most used jacket in my closet over fall and winter.

For fitting purposes, I am 6'2", 215 lbs., 35" arms, with a 44" chest, 36" waist, and the large fits me perfectly, very close fitting. I love the royal-blue type color - it really pops out. My girlfriend likes the way it fits because it looks tailored. I use it as my heavy soft-shell for biking and hiking in heavy terrain because it is tough and fends off branches and other growth. Good stretchy, tough material. Lightly insulated lining makes it warm for a soft-shell. With a thicker base layer, like the Rho AR, or the Phase SV Zip-neck, it goes down into the thirties (F), as long as I am moving, but I always carry an emergency hard-shell with it (the Theta LT) for warmth/weather protection purposes, although it does do very well in snow/light rain. If it is really cold, I take along my ultra-compressible Atom LT to go under the Gamma MX. The Gamma is cut so that you can put layers on underneath. Quality of construction is awesome. Good zippers. Tough. Excellent hood with functional drawstrings. When I turn my head to the side, I find that I am NOT looking at fabric, but have a clear view - I really like this feature. And it fits well over my bicycle helmet. I always have a backpack on, so I like the placement of the higher chest pockets, although I have to undo my chest strap to get at them most of the time, but, hey, where else are you going to put them? Definitely, I recommend this soft-shell. It's a warmer, heavier soft-shell that is comfortable in lower temps, looks good, is comfortable to wear, and super durable.

Bought this for my fiancee to go with the rest of the layering system I've given her. I think this is the best soft-shell Arc' makes because of the way it balances wind-resistance and breathability, and abrasion-resistance and suppleness. I have this soft-shell, too, and swear by its trim fit, strong fabric and incredible detailing.

Very comfortable jacket. It has a very light fleece lining inside that makes it a bit warm for a shell, but makes it also quite versatile as a standalone jacket, perfect for walking around town in the single-digit (Celsius) weather. DWR has worked great in moderate rainfall and buys me ample time to find shelter when needed. I've also used it for various moderate output activities in the single-digit negative weather and it's great. A bit chilly to start off but perfect once your body starts heating up. Fit is perfect for me, I'm just abut 6' and 170 lbs. When wearing it alone, it does not look goofy and baggy. At the same time, it leaves me enough room to layer. I've worn a light down jacket underneath it without any issues (TNF Thunder Micro -- roughly similar size, maybe slightly trimmer than the Cerium LT). I could have probably fit another thin layer underneath that if I wanted to. Quality of construction/materials is excellent -- I had a friend comment that he could tell it's a quality piece just by the feel of the fabric. The stretch in the fabric is a nice touch. This is one of the most comfortable jackets I own, in terms of my ability to move in the jacket, its weight, breathability, and the next-to-skin comfort. Zippers and pockets are all very well designed.

I use this jacket in two ways. The first as the outside layer over my Atom LT when I go to my office job M-F in the winter. With my dress shirts, this combination keeps me warm. The second is when I'm doing any outside activity, this goes in my bag and is used when I'm getting cold. When I'm hiking in cold/windy weather, this thing keeps me regulated incredibly well. The wind mostly stays out; if I'm running warm, I just unzip some of the pockets and my temperature stays comfortable. The storm hood also stays secure and keeps me warm, without decreasing my head movement much. I also stay pretty dry. Great pockets and zips to secure the jacket in various places (e.g. hood, waist). It also keeps light precipitation out. I'm pretty amazed by this jacket and how it keeps my temperature nice while we're working out in the Rockies! The photo is on the summit of Flattop Mountain in July - high winds, humid, temperatures in the 40's, and my torso and head were great.

Great jacket, I have no complaints. I can wear this jacket year around and compacts nicely for easy travel. I have used this jacket on many occasions. Summer and fall camping when the nights get a little cooler, running, it also works great as a base layer for skiing. The Gamma has a awesome storm hood that will fit over a helmet easily. This jacket does a sufficient job of repelling rain and snow. If you plan to be in the elements long period of time I would suggest rain and snow protection. I wear this jacket running early in the morning when it is cold. This jacket does and excellent job of wind protection as well as keep in the warmth . This jacket does an great job on the wicking factor. The are two large pockets are great for an iPod, or phone. This the best all around jacket I own.

Just got this jacket and I love it. I have several North Face Jackets and this one is far superior to them. It looks great, feels great, is functional, and I like the fit. This is definitely going to be my go to jacket. I'm 6' 200 lbs and went for a medium as that's what I generally like to wear. It may be a little tighter in the midsection but the chest and shoulders are perfect, the arm length is perfect, and so is the overall jacket length. I like the way it has a dropback hem but is a little shorter in the front. Generally the problem I have with medium jackets is they normally fall right at my belt line, other than that they generally fit well. This jacket is just a touch longer in the front and a couple inches longer in the back, which is just how I would want it to fit. If you are around my size and want or prefer a baggier fit, you would probably want to size up to a large.

Perhaps the most versatile piece I own. Some reviews here seem to indicate that users are missing the point of this piece. At least as I understand it. To the best of my knowledge, soft shells are not designed as insulating pieces. The Gamma is not designed for warmth, or total weather protection. It's the perfect intermediate piece. Best for those 'inbetween' days, which comprise the majority of most outdoor excursions. Here in the UK we are subjected to an annoying combination of wind, rain and humidity. In other words, you get wet outside and inside in roughly equal measure. Not with this piece. It's protective enough against almost all-but the worst rain showers....it's windproof enough for all-but the fiercest wind, yet gives that tiny little bit of extra warmth over a hard shell to give you comfort on the way down off the hill / mountain at the end of a long and strenuous day. As with every other Arc'teryx piece I have ever seen, the fit and articulation are perfection. Light years ahead of the competition. The jacket somehow pulls off the trick of feeling very close-fitting, yet movement is never ristricted, the hemline barely moves an inch. On the hanger is looks heavy, cumbersome. Zipped-on, you can barely feel it at all. I don't know how they achieve it. The material if soft, stretchy, but as tough and durable as anyone would need I have tried many, many other soft shells over the years - this one isn't just better, for me it's in a whole other category altogether.

People complain that it's not fully wind proof. That's one of the best features about it. It breaths so well that you really can do some high intesity stuff even in cold climate without soaking. Also it dries wery quickly. I often get quite wet in ice climbing and this will dry during same pitch that it get wet even in really cold (-20c). Also I love the stretch cuffs. With 'Ryx gloves you get fully snow and waterproof seal that has no breaking parts (unlike vercro) and requires no adjustments. Also hood was fantastic and easy to use single handed with helmet. Also it's quite durable. My Copper MX hoody lasted for 5 years of climbing, cycling, (cross country & telemark) skiing and winter running. OK the color faided in year or two and the water resistance also, but it was minor mishap. Overall this has been best piece of garment I've ever owned. It had all the stuff I need and the fit was spot on. Shame that the colours are pretty boring nowadays. Also bring back the powershield!
