I have had my Gamma MX Hoody (also has a none-hoodied version) for about 5 years. It's such a versatile piece of gear that I can't imagine not having it anymore.
I have worn it on countless outings such as camping, hiking, jogging, snowboarding. I wear it around town from fall to spring, and have it in my backpack for chilly summer night as well. It has always performed well. It's not as waterproof as a hard shell, but it's much more comfortable next to skin than any hard shell I have. I'd recommend this as a piece that every outdoor person should own.
The only small down side I find is that it is a bit more trim and short, so I had to size up since I usually wear it as an out layer. The cut for the none-hoodied version is right on, serving mostly as mid layer. I wear L for hoody and M for jacket.

This is my goto jacket for high output activities most of the year. In the winter i use it for Nordic Cross Country, Mountain Skiing and Alpine Touring (going up). Its abit to drafty when going down AT, but for everything else it works perfect. In the summer i also use it for Enduro Mountain Bikeing and the hoody fits nicely over the helmet. I have specialised MTB jackets but they seem to be left at home, together with my Gamma LT. Overall the MX just always gets picked over my LT, to the point that i actually bought a second MX so i could vary abit with the colour.

Great all around soft shell that layers well. Used it both as an insulating and outer layer. Doesn't quite hold up agaisnt the West coast rain if you get stuck in a storm for a long peroid as it doesn't have a Gortex membrane. Awesome soft shell if you're looking to invest in a quaintly piece of gear.

The Gamma MX Hoody is a great jacket it's really versatile, Its more waterproof than I expected with a great hood and pockets. Its also very stretchy allowing movement when climbing. I've used it for skiing, shopping, climbing just about everything. Its money well spent.

If you're going to have one Arcteryx product this needs to be on your shopping list.
Initially purchased as a summer alpine jacket but finds a place on the balmy resort ski days, autumn/spring walks, as a mid on winter climbs and cold damp days. I'm also known to wear it as a 'technical pub' jacket ;-). I guess what I'm saying is its pretty much as as close to a do anything outdoor jacket as you'll find. Warm, cool, tidy and smart.
Garment size: large
I'm 179cm(5-10), waist 84cm over the navel (33) chest 116cm over the nipples (46) weight 88kg

The Gamma MX was my intro to Arc'teryx over ten years ago and my latest one is a 2015 model which looks identical. I am primarily a four-season biker and all of Arc'teryx' climbing gear does me right for this. This is mostly a flexible, insulated wind-breaker with mass flexibility and mobility. I typically wear it with two skin-hugging Merino wool layers underneath in near-zero temps, and maybe a Satoro alone if a bit warmer. If you're moving you're going to stay warm in this even lower. Breathability is top-notch, and the numerous pockets are a real plus. I have an athletic build and this jacket is very complimentary to that. I love that it doesn't have extra bulk -- that's what mass-marketed outdoor wear is for afterall. If it's not raining, you're going to be happy with the Gamma line. If it is, go for the Alpha Gore-Tex shell, maybe with a Nuclei mid-layer if it's really cold -- that's my mainstay for anything below -5C. Compliments great with a Phase neck gaiter and Trino beanie for bonus neck and face warmth in windy climes.

I have had this jacket for a little over a year and I have loved wearing it, the quality is unbelievable, and it is extremely durable. This jacket has treated me very well, and it will for many years to come. I highly recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a high quality soft shell.

I just got my Gamma MX so have only worn it a couple of times and not in wet weather yet. I love the fit and the lightweight. I layer it with my Atom LT right now bcs its cold in the Rockies. I find it plenty warm enough with the Atom LT under it and the temps right now are around -10 to -15. I am looking forward to seeing how it is in the Spring when we get rain. We don't get heavy rain in SEast BC so this should be perfect.

I have about 14 Jackets, 6 of them are Gamma MX and Gamma MX Hoody. They are my favorites, aside from Alpha SV,Stingray and Beta SL and Alpha SL and Zetas. I collect and wear my Arcteryx with extreme pride and takes very special care of them as they are very pricey, but despite the costs I had been extremely happy with how Arcteryx customer care and after sales service had been helping out with repairs and warranty replacements.Special thanks to Kaleigh Harrop and Sasha.

Love this jacket - but just as important the company stands behind its products. Had a jacket that I loved that pilled, sent it in and they sent me this as a replacement. It's awesome! Fits perfectly even with a sweat on underneath. Easy to move in and breathable.

My brother had always been a fan of higher end jackets while I figured a jacket's a jacket. How I was wrong. Every aspect looks and feels well made. Bending over, moving my arms, sitting down, etc. All movements seem to cup or move with the body to a point that I forget I'm wearing it. (e.g. Taking it off is not at all on my mind after coming out of the cold) I've even found myself putting it on inside while staying inside just because it's comfortable.
The one really noticeable aspect was the hood. Before purchasing, I knew the hood was large enough to fit over a ski helmet and was worried how it would fit over just my head. To my relief, the tightening cord is somehow oriented in a way to prevent any crimping of material on the outside while literally forming to a humans head (i.e. not just tightening around the hood opening)
Overall, I can't be happier with the product.

This is the perfect soft shell, the fleece inside provides warmth but not too much, the pockets allow for more breathability, and on top is is highly water resistant. I wore this while it was snowing it still held up.

This is my second Gamma MX Hoody - my previous one lasted 10 years and I used it when out walking, winter commuter cycling and on a couple of ski trips. Such a great, well fitting, hardwearing and versatile jacket. Very accommodating when extra layers required.

Without a doubt the best jacket I've owned. Durable, good looking. Hood goes over helmet perfectly when it's snowing sideways. I've worn it in 5 degree snowstorms with just a merino Tshirt and a long sleeve Cold Gear under it. The sleeve pocket is a slick place for your pass. My only real world criticism is the lack of a interior chest pocket to hold your phone. Buy with confidence. I'm a 42 short suit size and I got a Med in this jacket. Perfect. Athletic fit is the best description.

Love this softshell. I tried just about every other softshell jacket available and this is the only one that was even close to fitting me right. Tested it on West Spanish Peak in below 30 degree, 55+ mph winds with a light fleece and base layer. Never felt any of the biting wind even when parked on the summit for 20 minutes. Retired my 3 other softshell jackets without hesitation.

The Gamma MX is my go to winter around town jacket, it's perfect for Colorado's dry snow, you can just dust it off the outside without getting wet at all. When it gets colder I layer it with my Atom LT underneath and that is all I needed for most of last winter to get around town comfortably. I'm 5'4" and about 135 lbs and the small fits perfectly.

I've done far more in this jacket than Arcteryx ever meant it for using it as my main outerwear through three winters in the Alps; hiking, snowboarding, climbing, drinking beer in snow, sleet, rain and... everything. I've also worn it here in the UK during rain, wind, snow and sun using it for hiking, checking the surf, cutting down trees, walking the dog...
My Gamma is getting tired now with wear on the shoulders fro carrying skiis and on the sides where I've carried my snowboard but the zips are good and all seams are solid. I'll get another.

I purchased this, and a host of other Arcteryx kit for a month long expedition I ran for school kids to Iceland this summer. Not only was I very happy with the quality of everything I bought, but it looks great and the kids admired much of it too. I bought this jacket in emerald green and kept it on the top of my bag for when we were in exposed and windy conditions. We did a 9 day technical trek, carrying all our kit, over peaks and glacial terrain and this jacket provided perfect protection against the elements. With a soft inner lining, I was warm but not sweaty, hence the jacket stayed relatively odour free. It endured light rain showers with ease and kept things in my pockets dry. Love the long pockets which allowed me to keep maps to hand without having to fold them up too small. Hood can be drawn in to tighten and the relaxed fit and stretch in the fabric allowed for mobility when climbing and scrambling. My only gripe is that I felt the sleeves were slightly long for me (short arms?), and the cuffs were a little loose which meant that they kept falling down over my hands - fine for keeping my hands warm but a bit of a pain at times. After 4 weeks, it did get rather grubby, however, has washed up a treat and looks as good as new again. I do a lot of biking, running and walking and reckon this will be an excellent piece of kit for the cooler, windy days. I also do a lot of outdoor work in the school I work in and I will be definitely recommending Arcteryx kit to the kids in the future.

The gamma series keeps getting better with new iterations. I have three gamma jackets across 3 different generations, a gamma sv, gamma mx polartec, and this hoodie. As observed I believe they are getting longer in length as they age, my gamma sv was great in the arms but was kind of short in length. The previous two models mentioned used polar tec fleece inside and arcteryx reasoned switching to the newer backing to be more breathable - i did not find this the case but i never had a breath ability problem with these jackets.
Overall the quality and stitching of the jacket is top notch and has not changed with generation. There have been in the past many really good knock offs of this gamma and the alpha sv but you can spot them easily if you are accustomed to gamma jacket features and stitching. The new backing is nice, you get the same added warmth, weather protection without the drawbacks of a fleece lined back. I really like this piece, hence owning three and they are all still going strong till this day.
Overall its a great piece, very versatile and stylish in various activities. I wear mine pretty much 3 seasons of the year in the pnw and its plenty of protection to handle the elements without a hardshell given the duration of weather exposure. I would not select this over a hardshell in prolong wet periods.
I cannot emphasize in words how much I enjoy this hoodie, its a much appreciated update to the older generations and recommend it to all. Size up if you want some room to layer, it is form fitting im my opinion. You wont be disappointed in the purchase, even given its price point. Quality is expect from an arcteryx piece.

I wear this out every day in the backcountry of BC. Most days this is my approach, ascent and descent jacket and never leaves my back. Its generally warm enough and wind resistant enough to keep you warm and dry on the way down. I pair this with my Alpha SV in rain/heavy snow and am toasty warm/dry all day, any season.
