I originally had the 2017 version (also excellent) but it got badly damaged in a bike accident/fall. This new generation (2019) is simply awesome. I've never had a jacket that's so comfortable in a wide range of temperatures! It feels more breathable than the last generation while also keeping you warm in cooler temps. Extremely versatile, just keep in mind that wind will break through (which can be either positive or negative based on the activity). The DWR coating performance was a nice surprise also. Beads water almost as well as my dedicated rain jacket. Overall, very pleased with my Proton LT.

I currently have more than 20 Arc'teryx jackets which I use in a wide range of weather conditions for hiking, trail-running, and casual use, so I have a good feel for the product range. In this context, I think this jacket is probably about the BEST you can get for its intended use: cold weather, little or no rain, low to high output, possible wind, and possible use of backpack and/or moving through brush. The jacket works well for this use because: - It has enough insulation to provide some warmth (significantly more than the Proton FL) - It provides some water resistance (but isn't waterproof) - It breathes well for the amount of warmth it provides (not nearly as well as the Proton FL, but much better than the Atom series) - It provides much more wind resistance than any fleece jacket (but it's not windproof, hence the breathability) - The outer fabric is fairly durable (more durable than the Atom series) This jacket has become my standard outer layer for hiking at temps below about 45 F in dry conditions, and it can handle much colder temps when paired with a suitable base layer, and possibly also a breathable mid layer for colder weather and/or lower output. Since the jacket is designed for colder weather and the lining can feel a bit cold against the skin, I do recommend pairing this jacket with at least a thin zip-neck long-sleeve base layer. For me, at 6' and 150 lbs, the fit is excellent in size medium, and I like the aesthetics of the jacket.

I've owned it all, all the brands all the mid-layers. This is by far the best mid-layer I've owned. It's warm it's light but most importantly it's breathable. I find every review should list there sizing to help others. I'm 5'11" 190 LBS and the Large fit perfect. The only thing I wish I could get this in is Yukon/Orion Color, love that color! Anyways, went with Neptune, it's cool too but is a little on the womens color pallet, I'n cool with that besides my lady stealing it. Thanks Arc'teryx.

This is my absolute new favorite jacket! Between the styling and comfort, you can't really beat. The only negative I can think of it that the color was slightly darker than the photos suggested. (Utopia) If the fit of your highest priority, you'll love it!

I was pleasantly surprised at how well the insulation works, great piece on cooler autumn days and works well as part of layering system once the temps drop. Happy

This is my favorite jacket - it is a great mid layer or outer layer depending on how cold it is. It fits great and is amazingly light - feels like I am wearing a cozy blanket.

The proton has been a huge game changer for me for winter sports in the Canadian Rockies. Prior to purchasing this last year, I always struggled with staying warm enough while ice climbing, ski touring, or mountaineering. I tried several active synthetic mid-layers and found that only fleece was breathable enough, but didn't keep me warm enough during down time. I tried to like the atom LT, but found it was only functional as a midlayer when it was -20c or colder. Until I got the Proton. Holy this thing is fantastic. I've used it mountaineering, ski touring, ice climbing, and hiking. I can keep it on all day and stay comfortable. I'm warmer than I used to be, and I don't have to use my belay jacket as often. The proton sheds light precipitation so it's extra functional as an outer layer as a bonus. I already have two protons, and with my frequent outdoor use in the winter, thinking about a third.

I've always loved the Arc'teryx jackets, mid-layers and the shells. This jacket fits perfect, I'm 6'4" and got a large - I'm usually XL but I find the Arc'teryx jackets always come up a little big. It's a little expensive but this jacket is made to last and looks insanely cool at that.

The Proton LT Hoody replaces my well-worn Atom LT Hoody and improves on it in every way. Slighty slimmer through the body, the Proton layers better and uses slightly thicker and more stable insulation for better warmth. The collar and hood are cut closer to the neck and head and stay put better as well. This is a well thought-out re-design that deserves a place in your puffy quiver.

Like everything about it light, warm, rain resistant. Packs small. Snug fit of hood allows use of noise-reduction headset WITHOUT wind noise (not mentioned anywhere!).

This jacket is perfect for high output activity, and for just walking around town. It's breathable and flexible enough for cold climbing, and around town it's been good for around 35 degrees Fahrenheit without wind. With wind you'll want a shell on top. Feels great, looks great, the complete package for me!

I recently purchased a Proton LT after reading all of the reviews. I immediately fell in love with it. I just purchased another one in the next size down for a more athletic fit for climbing! I originally bought a medium. I'm 5'9" and around 150lbs. This is the perfect size for wearing another thick layer underneath (fleece / hoodie). The small fits perfectly as a stand-alone layer. I can't wait for mine to arrive in the mail. Will keep me warm on the walls this fall / winter.

So some initial thoughts on this piece - great! I've had the chance to road test this jacket on a couple of shoulder season local trips and so far it has been excellent. My primary use is for everyday outdoor pursuits - so that could be anything from outdoor climbing, canoeing, hiking, and camping, to cross country skiing, snowshoeing. That's the beauty of this piece - it can handle it all. The fit is great - I'm a recently slimmer 5'5" 145lbs and the small is pretty much bang on - a slim sort of fit but not restrictive at all. I can still layer a thicker base layer underneath or even a light fleece/shirt but still have enough mobility. Classic Arc fit that is well thought out and well tailored and technical. Layers well under my size medium Norvan Jacket, or my roomier Beta AR. Definitely both warm and breathable. Performed great in high winds along Georgian Bay and didn't overheat when the temperature warmed and the wind cut. Great temp regulation overall - which I appreciate as a sweaty person. I have an atom LT as well, in a size medium, which is now a touch big but I'd say that the Proton has a bit of a slimmer fit which I appreciate to keep the bulk down and make layering easier. Seems to be more wind resistant as well. Overall, I think this one is going to outpace my Atom for use at this point. Overall great! And I went with black because, yah know, #allblackeverything.

I currently own an Atom LT and thought that it's perfomance while ice climbing was great with a merino base layer. The only thing that I didn't like as much was the bulkier fit and the panels on the side which sometimes made me cold which is the expense of breathability. This new Proton LT solves all those problems. It has more loft i.e. insulation, fits trimmer which is nice while climbing, and is more windproof and yet more breathable than the Atom LT. Oh yeah and did I say that I LOVE the Iliad colour.

I started with the Atom line up but the Protons are where I should have started. The Protons breathe whereas, the Atoms really don't as a mid layer. I am a muscular 5'9", 190lbs, 44" chest and wear a Large size in both the LT and FL. The Protons fit narrower than the Large size in the Atom line up. Especially through the torso which is better for layering. I bought the Proton LT first and layered it under my Alpha SV & Sidewinder. Under these shells, the temperature range that you can hit with the Proton LT are sizable. Skiing this set up with a thin base layer affords you -3 degrees C. to -20 degrees C. easily. I did the Vallee Blanche in Chamonix at -35 and I was still smiling whilst active. Using the Proton LT under my Northface WB ski school jacket proves to be too warm. Hence, why I purchased the Proton FL. The Proton FL is perfect under my Alpha SV or Sidewinder in -1 degrees C. to -9 degrees C. and perfect for 90% of the time under my Northface WB ski school jacket. The FL is definitely thinner and layers tremendously well under a semi-insulated outer layer. Depends on your set up, but both are outstanding!

I've recently received my new revised Proton LT and I can say, I'm impressed! It's such a nice piece of kit. The materials and construction are second to none. It's also aesthetically pleasing! Over the years I have had the Atom LT and AR jackets. I'd put this in the middle of them regarding warmth. I'd say the material feels smooth and robust at the same time. It's not as warm as the discontinued Proton AR but is still good enough as a stand alone on a cold day like today when I was wearing it. Someone mentioned it was like the LEAF version of the Atom LT with regards to how it looks and I'd say they're not far off! I'm 6' tall and about 185 pounds with an athllitic build. I'd normally go for a medium but I went for the large due to the 'trim fit'. I went for the black colour. I'd say it's perfect for me. Doesn't look too big. I managed to get mine with a discount so I didn't hesitate. It's expensive but you pay for what you get!
