I was without a vehicle in Guatemala while I was on a job there. Luckily it wasn't the rainy season and after a little haggling and price verification--thank you internet! I was able to trade my Beta SV for a used car so I wouldn't have to walk or use public transportation during my week there.

The best thing about these jackets is their cut and fit when in use, they just work. They have also been designed in partnership with their other base and mid layers which is so evident when you use them. It's taken me 12 years to wear out my old shell jacket, I'm looking forward to another 12 from this.

I've been a fan of the Arteryx band for almost 20 years, and put it through some tough Canadian conditions. Superb product quality with minimalist design is what sets this brand apart from the others. It just looks great and feel great with you have it on. Their warranty policy and customer service is top notch. If you have any issues at all, just bring it to one of the authorized dealers and they will take care you you. Fast response and resolution.

I've owned the Beta AR for several years and I decided to upgrade to the Beta SV despite many reviews claiming it's an overkill. The outer texture of the Beta SV is apparently softer and quieter, even though it's a thicker material. The overall silhouette also seems to be more streamlined with the StormHood. I'm very happy I got the Beta SV.

I received this jacket in the spring and so far it has kept my dry. We will see how a season of touring stacks up but I have every confidence in arcteryx products! You pay the price but it is some of the best stuff out there.

I've had this jacket for the last 3 seasons, I bring it everywhere I go. I did a Mount Rainier Summit finally this past July. The Jacket held up better than I expected considering we ran into 30 - 40 mph winds with rain over the two day attempt. We are talking about being in the rain for 6-12 hours each day.. For the most part the jacket was bone dry accept for the area's which a ton of use over the past 3 seasons endured, such as the jacket sleeves and under the arm pits which is super lame, but is understandable since I uses this jacket a ton! I've followed the washing instructions / applied the Arcteryx gore tex wash as well, but it does not seem to help.

I have owned at least 7 Arc'teryx jackets (old Theta AR, Alpha LT, Atom LT, Atom SL, Zeta AR, Adahy hoody, Beta SV) as well as several other garments over the years, and I have always found that a Men's small fits me well until I tried the Beta SV. The small Beta SV was huuuge. According to the Arc'teryx sizing charts I should be wearing a small, but it was just way too big. Fortunately they make an extra small which was just about right around the middle and better sleeve length. The extra small still allowed me to comfortably fit a midweight down jacket underneath it. If you want it to fit like the models shown in photos on Arc'teryx' website you might need to order a size down...otherwise you may get a very loose and baggy fit with very long sleeves. Other than that it is an excellent hard wearing shell that I'm sure will last me a long time. Typical excellent Arc'teryx craftsmanship.

I spent a long time looking for a jacket that would support me in all my outdoor activities. Watching my kids play weekend rugby in the rain, skiing, snow camping or hiking. I baulked at the price of the Beta SV for a while. I read tens of reviews and they were all basically the same. "You'll never need another jacket". So I bought one. I've used it watching rugby in the rain, skiing and hiking, and it has lived up to all expectations. Blocks everything out, and the material breathes well. Also has pit vents when you get really warm. Slinging gear across the jacket like a pack, ropes or skiies doesn't phase the jacket. Plenty of internal and external pockets for gloves, phone and snacks, and the pocket on the left arm for the ski pass is very convenient. Zippers just work. Definitely recommend this jacket especially if you get outdoors.

I was looking for a shell that could do it all and I found it. A durable shell that works perfect on hikes and is good looking enough for urban use. At 198cm I'm quite tall and slim, and I was surprised that the medium size is perfect. The large one was just too boxy and medium has plenty of space to layer. It also has enough length. This jacket has saved me in some very wet weather, it's built like a tank. Super durable material. I've washed the jacket once and it performs as new. It breathes, but probably not the most. But hey, it's a shell, so what can you expect? I love the pit zips as I tend to heat up quickly. In cold weather I wear it with an Atom LT, and in shoulder seasons I wear it by itself. Only problem for me is that the hood can get in the way when you turn your head. This is when you wear the hood, but also when you don't wear it. I think the Beta AR hood might be more functional, but I don't like that look (so not sure if that's the solution).

There are a lot of great jackets out there. I try to compare them based on Feature set, Fabric, Cut and details. The Beta SV uses a robust face fabric (80 denier Nylon- plain weave) mated to the highly waterproof breathable Gore Tex Pro membrane. It has a true to size fit, for reference im 5'10" and 165lbs and I can wear either a small or medium depending on how I plan to use the jacket. I went with the small since I had planned to use it for mostly everyday use, some hiking and spring skiing (so minimal layers underneath). The jacket has ample length in the front and back. The waist and lower hem is slightly narrower than other smalls i own so i don't have to cinch the draw cord very much. I wish they used the cohesive cord lock on the bottom hem instead of the basic cord adjusters. They do use the cohesive cords on the hood which is nice. The jacket does not have a waist draw cord (like on the the Alpha SV), but it is not a deal breaker. The chest pockets are well placed and deep enough to carry most items. I still miss have a 3rd pocket on the torso like the previous Theta SVX, but there is a left arm pocket that can hold small stuff. 1 mesh internal pocket and 1 zippered pocket finish of the storage in the jacket. YKK Vislon (Aquaguard) zipper is used on the front main zipper. It is probably the best and smoothest zipper out there. outside pockets use the new RS slider which eliminates the need for a zipper garage, it also makes for some nice clean lines. Hood is big enough for a helmet, but not massive like many of the whiteline jacket that i own. Lastly I love the fact they have moved to using a lot more of the micro seam tape on the inside of the jacket (mostly non critical areas). It saves weight, makes it slightly more breathable and is aesthetically much nicer. Overall fantastic all around shell! I know Arc'teryx is always striving to improve, so maybe we will see some tweaks in the future to make this great jacket even better

This jacket serves it's purpose , protects against rain, and is durable thus not tearing or ripping in wilderness environments. A good fitting cut , attention to detail in the configuration of materials. An all around wilderness shell , able to take brushes with the elements. Most people will gripe about the price , in fact I did in a rejected review when I first received the shell in the mail (maybe buyer's remorse) .. though in using the Jacket as with most things arcteryx .. the value is in its performance ..

I have never been disappointed when wearing this shell. It offers unsurpassed protection from all the elements mother nature has to offer while looking great at the same time. At 6'4" the XL fits me well. I also appreciate the sleeve length and back legth whether I'm skiing or backcountry hiking.

This is the best jacket I have ever owned. I wore it as a shell with a down layer all winter in Alberta (down to -40 celcius) and it was always sufficient to keep the wind out and me warm. In the summer I always keep it close as it is great on cool windy days and always keeps me dry if it is raining. It is definitely living up to my expectations.

The Beta SV is pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the best hard shell money can buy. The construction and materials makes it completely bombproof against the coldest and snowiest conditions. The more durable face fabric ensures your expensive jacket is not undone by twigs and branches. The fit is conducive to winter laying and will wrap around a Delta LT and Proton LT without any impact to mobility. The Breathability is phenomenal, and never do I feel sticky and clammy, even after the most strenuous sessions. I'm 5'11", 205lbs, athletic build, 44" chest and I wear a size large

I've been an Arc'Teryx user for over 15 years owning pieces from the Alpha, Theta, Gamma lines including LEAF products. This Beta SV is the best piece I've owned in terms of weighing light weightedness vs durability. I think one of the main reasons we all choose Arc'Teryx is for the security knowing you will be ok if the conditions turn on you and this Beta SV instills even more confidence than other jackets I've used in the past. On top of that, it is minimal, fits amazingly well and is comfortable to wear. I was previously an Alpha guy mainly for the reason of the shorter cut. But this Beta cinches up easily to the same length and I am very happy to have the hand warmer pockets on the outside.
