I've been an Arc'Teryx user for over 15 years owning pieces from the Alpha, Theta, Gamma lines including LEAF products. This Beta SV is the best piece I've owned in terms of weighing light weightedness vs durability. I think one of the main reasons we all choose Arc'Teryx is for the security knowing you will be ok if the conditions turn on you and this Beta SV instills even more confidence than other jackets I've used in the past. On top of that, it is minimal, fits amazingly well and is comfortable to wear. I was previously an Alpha guy mainly for the reason of the shorter cut. But this Beta cinches up easily to the same length and I am very happy to have the hand warmer pockets on the outside.

I've had my Beta SV a year now and it has replaced a fourteen year old sidewinder that was a great jacket. I'm 5'8" 152Lbs 40" chest and a medium in anything arc' so far. I chose the Beta because I wanted it for skiing and hiking. For skiing It's really durable with plenty of room, I can layer a Kyanite jacket and atom LT hoody if needed. I do not miss the powder skirt because the Beta is long enough and with the hemcord, keeps the snow out for me. I also now prefer the storm hood over the drop hood of my old sidewinder. It works really well with a ski helmet and cinches down nicely when hiking without. Pockets are great and nicely positioned even with a pack on. Although there are lighter jackets out there, it's light enough for me for hiking. Breathability is good and there's always pit zips to dump excess. Love the versatility and looking forward to many more adventures with it.

Most people who spend time in the outdoors have a lot of jackets. I certainly do. The Beta SV isn't the one I wear the most, and it's not one I think most people should buy. But when I need armor, I go here. I don't believe I've ever worn another jacket that provides sanctuary in this way. Having put the it through some harsh trials, I have never been let down. I love that it is a single zip, not a double zip. It makes it very reliable and easy to zip no matter the conditions. I love that it is long because snow and wind and rain doesn't get in, even when you sit down. When you zip it up all the way it covers some of your face for ultimate protection. It does not care about rocks, trees, concrete, ski pole tips, abrasion of any kind really. So if you don't climb, and you need a personal fortress, get the Beta SV!

If you don't need the full bomb proof qualities or can't stretch to the cost of the Alfa SV then this wonderfull jacket is the next best thing! A superb hard shell that has a fit and finish way beyond any hard shell I've had before and well worth the money imho. Lovely colours to, oh and people notice you in this jacket to! Highly recommended.

Let me start out by saying I owned a theta ar for 11 years. The jacket started to have some issues where the layers of gortex were separating. Sent the jacket in and was told it was a warranty issue. They told me to pick out another jacket. I went with a Beta SV this go around and love the jacket. The goretex Pro is amazing. Very breathable, lightweight, durable. Sizeing and colors are true to image you see. I cannot recommend it enough. It's nice to find a company that will stand behind their products!!!

I love this jacket! It kept me warm and dry in torrential rain and wind in the Scottish Highlands, and warm and protected in 100KM+ winds in the Andes in Patagonia. It also breathes extremely well. I plan to use it for cross-country skiing as well in temperatures as cold as -15C (of course with layering). I'm about 6ft 3in and the sleeves and body length are perfect. It's super strong without being bulky or rigid. In fact the way it's cut offers amazing movement. The perfect all purpose jacket when you need to be prepared for all sorts of conditions. It also packs well, rolled up into the hood, occupying little room in your pack. It's a splurge but worth it!!!

Jacket is brilliant, keeps me dry in the British weather, plenty of room for layers underneath (XL version), I usually have XXL for outdoor wear but this is a 'regular' fit rather than being a slim fit in my opinion.

Overall this is a super jacket. It is a thicker gortex pro which is meant to be used for more colder weathers - and I have managed to wear it through the spring as well however does get a bit sweaty because of that. Great for layering as well and does keep me very warm in the winter layered or not.

Its a great do it all jacket - a fine descendant to the Theta SVX, it only misses the elastic waist drawcord and the chest pocket. I have an size medium and it fits similar to my Theta SVX in size Small and a bit roomier than other Arcterxy shells. Its a bit bulky but the roomie makes it fit nicely over my Atom lt, Cold WX and Cerium LT - and can even be used over the thorium SV if you ever can finde a reason to do that. It has a nice long fit thats great for the rainy nordic climate. It could have been made in N100p-X like the Alpha SV (it's only 5grams heavier), to make it even stronger Over all its a great jacket for nearly every kind of outdoor activity you can throw at it.

I call this my personal bomb-shelter. It truly is the burliest jacket I've ever worn. Tested against some of the worst Alpine/Winter elements in Rocky Mountain National Park, this jacket performed beautifully. Wind chills in the single digits and sideways snow could not touch this shell. It sheds moisture like a pro, in both snow, sleet and rain. I've even used it in a driving rain storm high in the Italian Dolomites, keeping me warm and dry while being exposed on a ridge line for several hours. In short, this jacket will take the worst conditions possible, and make them enjoyable.

My first Bird purchased for all mountain use as a hard shell. Weather protection is supreme. Added length was a must for me, and for my taste it's just long enough. At 6' and 205# with a 44" chest and dress shirt size 16.5, 33/35 I'm in between sizes and the Large is just a little snug, but I wore a base layer, atom sl, and mid weight fleece vest under it without any restriction. Hood is great for weather protection, but a bit restrictive for checking uphill before blasting across a trail intersection. Now I just gotta lose 15# and it'll be perfect ;-)

Bought it for back country skiing. It has the perfect features and nothing extra for it's intended use. I don't like powder skirts so most dedicated ski jackets don't work. The material is durable, surprisingly lightweight, and the same throughout. It is long and covers my butt which I like. For me this adds a lot of warmth in stormy conditions (it's in my pack unless it is stormy). The drawstrings are easy and serve their purpose and I like the heavier zipper. It may be a little heavy for summer trips or as an emergency coat, but as a ski, mountaineering, and resort coat Arcteryx built the perfect piece.

Fantastic shell, and a great option for taller athletes who may find the hip length on the alpha series too short. Perfect for all but the hottest conditions.

Replaced my Beta AR for greater durability and water/wind resistance. I was a seized medium with the AR, but a sized small works even better in the SV. (5'11, 150 lbs, 30" waist). This includes layers with an Atom LT and 1-2 baselayers. First impressions were great. Hiking in snow and wind (50 mph gusts) and 20 degrees F was comfortable and warm with just a base layer underneath. Great breathability for high effort hiking in deep snow. The hood seemed to stiffen up when exposed to the cold and some slight noticeable, but the beneifits far outweigh these slight negatives. I had read some reviews about the longer torso length in terms of leg mobility. None of that was to be found. I found the length to be more optimal than the AR for layering and keeping the snow out.

Use for mountaineering, snowboarding (front and back country), winter cycling. Very well made jacket. The cut is quite long on the back - but it works for snowboarding, so all good.

I acquired this jacket about two months ago, and have used it to hike in the rain and ski so far. No signs of wetting out whatsoever, including in a steady downpour. I was a little bit worried about the weight and potential sauna effect that could be caused by the 'SV' designation, but was pleasantly surprised upon receiving the jacket and using it, as it's still very light and packable as well as breathable (of course using the pit zips is essential when appropriate). Overall seems like a great product that I will revisit after a few more months of winter use. Also, the red colour is sort of a bright orange and extremely visible, which I personally think is a bonus when you travel through avalanche terrain.
