I ordered these because I have plantar fasciitis, and a narrow heel, and needed something other than Birkenstocks to wear walking and hiking. I think I have found the holy grail of hiking shoes for me! (Believe me when I say that shoe shopping is an excruciating experience for me, as my feet are generally unhappy in most shoes.) I also have fibromyalgia and a herniated disc in my lower back, which makes having a comfortable supportive shoe very important! For what it's worth, I am 59 years old and try to stay active. In most Merrells, I have found that I need to size up size. These, however, run true to size. I am a true size 9, ordered a size 9, and they fit perfectly. No break-in was required. I used to wear the Siren Sport and Siren Sport 2. What I disliked about that shoe was for me, a lack of mid-foot support/padding. I also didn't like the way the laces went all the way to the front of the shoe, so far toward the front that they laced past your toe joints because the side latches that hold the laces would often interfere with my little toe and 2nd to last toe and rub them on top. These Siren Edge shoes fix all that. There is no interference with your toes at all, as it is built more like a regular athletic shoe in terms of where the lacings are. The Siren Edge has a wonderfully generous toe box area, without looking clunky. It is rounded, not pointed and not overly wide and clunky looking. There is enough mesh to make them cool for summer, but a nice tighter mesh, not that super loose mesh that allows every grain of dirt and sand to get in. They are also low on the ankle, which for me is good, as higher shoes tend to rub and give me blisters and the lower profile is hard to find in a hiking shoe. They are also very light weight. I have a narrow heel and there is absolutely no heel slippage. They are also very stable feeling so I don't feel I will twist an ankle. The other thing I love about the Siren Edge is that the sole is flush with the shoe, i.e, I am not a runner, I am a hiker / walker, so I really don't need those flared-out soles that are on the back of most running shoes. Next ladies, these shoes make your feet look smaller. When you order them and put them on, you will see this is immediately obvious. When you wear a size 8, 9 or 10, this is important. If you wish to put in an orthotic, you may need to size up size. I usually wear superfeet in all my shoes, but have found them to be unnecessary in the Siren Edge, they are very supportive and supply excellent arch support. Lastly, although I m always more concerned about comfort and usefulness, from a vanity standpoint, the Siren Edge is an extremely good looking shoe. It doesn't scream hiking and I have worn them with dressier outfits as well as well (casual skirts and dresses). They are the best looking shoe I own right now. And the colors aren't neon so they are good neutrals. I ordered the black / purple, but will also be getting the grey. If you wear jeans a lot, the blue ones would be perfect. I can't comment on how these wear for a wide foot, as my foot is normal width. If you need a higher hiking/walking shoe for winter or heavier hiking, or ample ankle support, I highly recommend the Merrell Siren Waterproof Mid Leather which I also own and which Zappos carries. Those do run a bit smaller, so order size up. These have been a staple with Merrell for decades, for good reason. I also don't recommend the Siren Edge for running. If you want a great running shoe, then get the Asics Gel Kayano or Asics Gel Nimbus. Like wearing Cadillacs on your feet.

Holy cow. I had been listening to my parents who are huge hikers rave about Merrels for years, but I always felt my trail running shoes worked just fine, so didn't feel the need to invest in a pair of hiking specific shoes. I finally broke down and ordered the Siren Edge's for a trip to Hawaii where my boyfriend and I planned on doing quite a bit of moderate to challenging hikes in likely muddy terrain. Foolish as it was, the first time I wore these shoes outdoors was our hike up Koko Head Crater trail (over 1000 very steep railway track 'steps' on uneven terrain) and I could not have been more wildly impressed with how these babies held up. No break in time necessary, I didn't get any hot spots, blisters or sores, and felt the traction was excellent. Additionally, unlike other hikers I tried, they still felt light enough for steep climbs like this and flexible enough to let your foot roll (safely) with uneven terrains. I seriously called my parents from the top of the crater to rave about the shoes, hahah!! I would 100% recommend to anyone on the fence about investing in these impressive and quality shoes!

Amazing shoes! So comfortable right out of the box. I used to buy Merrell Siren Sport II but now own two pairs of the Siren Edge. They are a lighter weight upper compared to the Siren Sport but have the same soles. Hiked Zion a few days ago and my new Siren Edge were absolutely perfect! Finally talked my daughter into buying a pair of Merrell's for the next hike. Buy theses shoes...you will not be disappointed!

These shoes are comfortable and I like the style but they fell apart within 3 months! I am so disappointed. I am not hard on my shoes. They are peeling away from the soles! I have a hole in the side of the shoe! For almost $100, these are the worst shoes I have ever bought. They should be more durable for the price.

I got the all out Peak, Mixmaster Glide 2, and Siren's Edge. The ugliest is the Peak; but it has lots of room, helps pronation the most out of the three; it is square. The Siren's Edge is not for overpronators, but it is a beautiful shoe. The Glide 2 corrected my overpronation enough too. I got them all in a size 9 and they all fit fine well. They are a good width if you open up the shoe laces.

I loved these shoes for the first 3 months. Then the upper part of the shoe started developing holes. While these are incredibly comfortable, the top part of the shoe is not durable and has multiple holes on each shoe now. When you pay $90, you expect it to last longer than these have.

I bought these for some day hiking trips in the Smoky Mountains and for Yellowstone and the Tetons. We just returned from the Smokies where I was able to wear them on 4 strenuous trails which involved climbing over rocks, roots, and pebbles and up steep terrain that was very wet and slippery. These shoes did not disappoint!! Over four days we hiked 45 miles up and down mountains and besides the normal ache you would expect for a little while in the legs I felt great! My feet did not ache because these shoes were comfortable and gave great support. Even walking in rain, puddles and mud I was impressed with how dry they stayed. Any bit of water that did get into the shoe dried rather quickly. I bought a half size down as it felt a little more comfortable and snug for trekking. I would HIGHLY recommend these shoes for hiking and am excited to use them on our next trip!

I loved, loved, loved these shoes. They were comfortable right out of the box and look great. Unfortunately, after less than 10 months of normal wear they are already falling apart. I would expect that a $90 pair of shoes would last longer than that. Shame on you Merrell. Very disappointed!!! :(

Very comfortable shoe. Good cushion, but still has good support. No break-in needed. Looks good on the foot; makes foot look small.

Very comfortable from the minute I put them on. Wore them immediately to run errands and then all weekend to attend a festival where I walked miles each day. I wear a size 9 normally but in Merrell's I wear a 10 to allow enough room in the toe box for my hammer toes! I may have to buy another color.

I bought these last minute for a recent trip in Colorado. They were incredibly comfortable all day long from the mountains to the streets. And they never even needed any break in period. The black/purple are cute enough and didn't make me feel like I was wearing clunky hiking shoes. Loved this purchase!

These shoes felt perfect the minute I put them on. I have size 10B feet with bunions and sensitivity to anything that's not perfectly comfortable. These feel light, perfectly sized, and they make my feet look good. They give me a feeling of loft - a sensation of being light on my feet. Some shoes are comfortable "on paper" - meaning there's nothing truly uncomfortable about the fit, but still -wearing them requires energy expenditure. Other shoes give me energy. These shoes do that - they take no energy from me, and make me feel invigorated.

I like this Merrill shoe because it is lightweight and looks nice. I wear it for everyday and for hiking. I wear a 7.5 in Clarks; an 8 in Merrill. This shoe works well for a narrow heel and wider toes. I've had them for a few weeks and I'm very happy with them. Even though they are not waterproof, I have worn them in the rain and wet grass, and they don't soak through, at least not very quickly. The gray color goes well with jeans.

MERRELL SIREN EDGE is my choice among the shoes (Bruno Magli, Dansko, Alegria, Ariat) lined up at the front door. Merrell Siren Edge feels like a "support sock-shoe". It is light weight, supportive, pliable, slimming to the foot, conservative, casual and adaptable for many occasions. It is durable and has lasted a long time. The very long shoe strings are showing some wear. The material on the sole of the shoe is firm, wears well, supportive, comfortable to walk on and visually blends with the rest of the shoe. My black with purple accent Merrells are older and will now go on travel/hiking vacations. My new Merrell Siren Edge shoes will be at the front door ready to go to work, business travel, casual dining. No break-in is needed when wearing Merrell Siren Edge. Put them on with or without socks and you are ready to go. I usually wear below black ankle socks with purple accents. I purchased two Merrell Siren Edge: black/purple and black (with grey accents). The purple accent gives the shoe a subtle contemporary appeal. Enjoy!

I was looking for an all around sneaker to wear in the spring/summer/fall that was lightweight, comfortable and supportive. I wanted something to wear daily that could also allow for the spontaneous park visit for running around with the kids or a short hike in the woods. This shoe is exactly what I've been looking for. Vibram sole felt a bit narrow at first and I was worried it wouldn't be stable enough but haven't had an issue. Great shoe for this active mom!

The other reviewers are right. The upper part (trimming) after only a couple of weeks started to crack and the color faded. These shoes are not going to last long. They, for sure, are not going to look good more than a couple of months at most. It's very unfortunate because these shoes are incredibly comfortable and most important: my feet never hurt when I wear them, even though I have arthrosis on my two big toes.

These are exactly as described and great for backroads, gravel, and mule tracks. Size is accurate, roomy toe box. I needed a bit more space for big toe, packed in a few golf balls to stretch the area just a bit.
I find European sizes are best for judging size since US sizes tend to vary. Choose same size as Ecco or ugg.

For the last thirty years the rule has been that athletic shoes have to be as weird and clownish looking as possible, and that the better and more expensive the shoe is, the more ridiculous looking it has to be. I like Merrill hiking shoes and always buy the ones with the best ratings, but to me it's a big bonus that these shoes are shaped like an Oxford rather than a mothership and that I could buy them in an understated neutral color.

I purchased these shoes for the sole purpose of yard work to include mowing the yard. I wore sneakers in the past but they just didn't provide the support nor the grip required for a hilly terrain. The Merrell Siren Edge is very comfortable, pretty light weight and provide outstanding grip. In addition to being a good utility shoe they are also pretty cute. I have no doubt that these would be great for moderate hiking as well. Paired with Smart Wool socks, these shoes are hard to beat!

There's always a risk ordering shoes online but I find Merrell's to be fairly consistent in sizes. These were no exception. They are a nice weight - not going to weigh me down walking and I love the color. No problems using them all day right out of the box and no rubbing on the back of my ankle which is gives it an all around 5 star rating from me.

I am an 8.5 and ordered 8.5. Fit like a glove. I wore these first time hiking in Arizona on very rugged terrain. No pain or break-in necessary - what a great pair of shoes! Comfortable from minute one. I'm thrilled.

I absolutely love these shoes. I bought them to wear at work (healthcare worker). They didn't need any break in period. They fit so well. I always go a 1/2 size larger on my tennis shoes because my feet swell when I'm on them all day. I am thinking of buying another pair to have at home.

These are the mosonly comfortable, good looking shoes I have worn I need a very long time. Right out of the box and with orthotics, I was able to wear them and walk in them all day without any problems. I will purchase another pair as soon as my size comes back in stock! Great fit and comfort.

I love the look of these shoes. They are not heavy or "orthopedic" looking. I read reviews and ordered my normal "street shoe" size. At first try, I thought they fit perfectly. However, I tried them on again and after walking around inside for a few minutes believe they would fit better if I went up a half size.
I overpronate and these shoes are very supportive and stable feeling. I think a 7.5 will be perfect.
