For those of you who are thinking about ordering any Redwing Heritage boots I would highly recommend going to a Redwing store to get a proper fit. However despite what that computerized machine that they make you stand in and pushy sales associates I would try on different sizes to make sure you don't buy a pair of boots that are too big or too small. I had originally bought the Copper Rough and Tough Heritage Moc Toe boots and between a size 10 and 9.5 had problems with the 10's being too big and the 9.5s feeling too tight across the top of the foot. The sales associate swore up and down that the machine does not lie and said the 10s would eventually form to my foot however there was a lot of room in my heel area. I decided to try on the Iron Rangers in the Copper Rough and Tough in a 9.5. This boot felt better across the top of my foot, but still had too much room in the toe area. So I went down to a size 9 and it fit perfect. Being able to order through Zappos with fast shipping and great return service I was able to try on in my own home and make that decision for myself without the hassle of pushy sales associate who did not want to keep running back and getting different pairs of boots for me to try on! But if you do go to a store or order here from Zappos I would consider trying on different sizes. Most of their boots do run a full or half size smaller from your normal shoe size. I will tell you that you want be disappointed in the quality and construction of these boots. The first day I wore them I had several compliments. I would recommend getting some type of leather conditioner to help with the break in of the boots. Redwing has care kits for all of their types of boots. I purchased one with a leather cleaner, mink oil conditioner and protectant spray. Just after a week of wearing them they are starting to break in nicely. Looking forward to getting many years of wear out of these great looking boots.

I don't understand how they can be charging so much for these. Leather is high quality but the construction is terrible. Speed hooks were completely uneven making the leather bind in weird ways when you laced them, even the cap toe was about an inch different between the boots. Immediately returned and won't be bothering with Red Wing again.

About a month ago, after reading all the advise, I went to my local Red Wing store, and put my feet in the Brannock device. I'm a 9D on the left, and almost a 9.5D on the right. So, the very nice Red Wing lady brought me out a few sizes to try. She brought 8.5 to 10.5, which confused me a bit as everything I'd read said get the boot's size smaller than your Brannock size. So, I started with the 8.5. It was roomy, didn't fit snug anywhere, and was a too long. So, I asked about an 8, which she brought out. It was snug, but not uncomfortably so...so I thought, "fits like a glove". I told myself, 8 must be the right size without an inner sole, and 8.5 would work with an inner sole. A week later, I was TDY in Virginia, and I was digging through a Nordstrom Rack, and I found they had a pair of the Beckman Round 9061s in 9.5. I knew they'd be too large, but I tired them anyway...yep, way too big. They said they didn't have anymore, but I'm pretty good at finding the unfindable, so I looked around for myself. I found a 7.5 Blacksmith 2961s (made for Japan, but I guess the seconds ended up in the US) , and figured, "What the heck, give it a try." I was already expecting the stiffness, due to the leather type/thickness...but I wasn't expecting to find what "fits like a glove" really means. WOW! I was thrilled to snag the 7.5s, and I updated my Red Wing thoughts...7.5 is my size without inner sole, and 8 is with inner sole. (I don't know what the official colorway is for my 2961s, but my daughter's first comments about them were spot on. "Dad, they look like Kidney Beans." I thought, "Exactly! Soooo cool.") A week after that, I snagged a pair of the Iron Rangers 8119s (Oxblood) in an 8. Then, some Beckman 9013s (Chestnut), also 8s. The Beckmans I use an inner sole, but the Iron Rangers I don't... Still with me? The moral to this story, when you try these on, go smaller than your Brannock Device sizing...and keep going downward until you find 'too small'. If your toes are against the front of the boot...too small. If you can't get your foot into the boot, even with a shoe horn (use them!)...too small. If you foot pops into them, and they are grabbing your foot, like a good leather work glove...congrats, you found your size.

The Rough and Tuff Copper Iron Ranger leather is very nice looking. The leather will gain more character over time and will darken with Red Wing boot conditioner products. The sizing does run large. I wear a size 11D Red Wing steel toe work boots. I ordered a size 10D Red Wing Iron Ranger and they fit perfect with the same socks that I wear with the Red Wing steel toe work boots.

These are really high quality, stylish boots. They're taking a while to break in, so expect some discomfort at least the first month of wearing them. They also run bigger than I'm used to. I normally buy size 11.5 or 12 sneakers for a reasonably tight fit, whereas size 11 in these boots is still pretty roomy for me. That said, I'm really happy with the purchase, love how these look and expect the high quality will last for years and keep looking better as they break in.

The boots are solid and look great, definitely. Personally, they felt 1.5 sizes bigger than usual. I'm a size 10 normally and kept the 9, and it still feels a bit loose. Probably could have gone with the 8.5, but just laced them very tight. I've yet to break them in, but based on everything I've read, these end up being very comfortable once they mold to your feet. Style and quality wise, very solid purchase!

The Red Wing Heritage line is full of excellent boots, I own the 1907’s as well as the Iron Ranger 8111 Amber Harness. I got these boots in a size 10, I wear 10.5 in Nike and New Balance. Left the desired amount of room in the toe box for wool socks in the winter months and thinner socks in the spring and fall. The boots do require break in. But In my opinion if you get the boots in your correct size then the break in period is not that bad. I would recommend getting sized at a red wing store. But if you do not have a local store, Zappos has an excellent and accommodating return/exchange policy. Bottom line these boots are built to last, with proper care you should be able to get many years out of them with a resole now and again.

We bought two pairs before finding the right size. It was only our fault in sizing but I would say they for us they ran one whole size bigger. And the third and final pair we got in were much more light in tan. A little disappointed because the other two pairs that did not fit were just right in color.

An absolutely great boot. Before purchase, was concerned about build quality based on previous experience with Red Wing work boots. I was also concerned about the break-in period. I can honestly say that my concerns were for naught. The build quality was great and break-in was relatively easy. You should definitely get a full size smaller than your typical shoe size though. Some reviews recommend 1/2 size smaller, but from my experience, 1 is best and 1.5 might even be better. Don’t take my word for the 1.5 though.

You'd be hard-pressed to ever find a better pair of boots than the Iron Rangers. Craftsmanship and quality of materials are all top-notch. These boots can easily last you 10 years if you take care of them. Red Wing updated the sole (much better traction, and maybe a new material?) and somehow these new models are infinitely more comfortable. There is definitely a break-in period, but it seems less intense with the new soles. And I did notice them feeling a 1/2-size to almost a full-size larger. I wear a 10.5 dress shoe and an 11 running shoe, and the size 10 Iron Rangers fit me perfectly. And as always, the Zappos customer service folks are beyond outstanding. I had an issue with the first pair I ordered and Zappos fixed it promptly and with a smile. Why shop anywhere else?

These ran too narrow for me. After multiple attempts to get the toe box widened I ended up having to sell them. Too bad as these boots look incredible!

First of all, these boots run LARGE. So much in fact, that I sized down and whole size and a half. I wear American-made Red Wing steel toe boots on a daily basis for my job and I love them. I was sized for them in a Red Wing store with their computer gizmo sizing machine thing and I’m a comfortable 9.5 in that work boot with room enough for a very thick merino wool hunting sock when the weather turns cold. With that being said, I went with a size 8 in the boot knowing that I’d never wear much more than a moderately thin dress type sock, and they are perfect. This is a completely uninsulated and unlined boot and appropriate for three seasons; spring, summer and fall. They would do fine in winter if sized appropriately and with a good winter sock, but I have other boots for that. There is no insole in this boot either and the inside feels as hard as concrete. Amazingly enough, even with non-existent arch support, they are still extremely comfortable. The leather on these boots is beautiful and really high-quality, but is as stiff as a diamond in an ice storm. Again, I was amazed that it only took me about 12 hours of wearing and walking in them (completely pain free, I might add) to soften them up and thoroughly break them in. Now, they’re my go-to after work footwear. Oh, and the copper color is fantastic as well, although mine have already started to change (in a good way) and I imagine will only look better as they age. These boots are expensive, but they’re an investment and highly recommended.

Quality of craftsmanship and styling is a given. If you are in the market for a work boot to wear more for fashion, then this is one that most take a hard look at. I had no break in period with my boots which was a surprise. I typically wear Ugg or ECCO boots and they are cut wider, which works for my size 10 - pretty, pretty, pretty wide foot. All the reviews said to size up so I rolled the dice and did not size up and bought my standard size 10 thinking that if they ran big, the boots would then be able accommodate my wide foot. Fortunately it worked out as planned! Getting back to the boots. You can tell that these boots are going to be around for years and years to come and can sustain a good beating. Its like buying a Filson bag or Barbour jacket. Though expensive - you will probably have the gear for the rest of your life. Definitely worth checking out. And for those with wide feet, though Red Wing does not make these in a wide width, they could still work out for you. Give it a shot!

Great boots, rugged and look tough. It takes a little time to break them in. Others commented on them sized big, but I am a 12 in any shoe and these fit great with a little room for a thick sock.

Order down 1 size. Love these boots. Great style. You need to break them in. They ARE 1 size too large don't listen to anyone who says they aren't. I wear 11 to 11.5 and I got 10's and they're perfect -- but even at that there's a lot of room in the toe. Definitely want to weatherproof them if you're going to wear your work boots for, you know, anything out of the office.

Ok here is the trick - buy one-half size down and buy a quality insole like the Superfeet Greens and these will be a lifelong friend. And see below for my break in trick... If you don't use an insole you should probably buy a full-size down but be ready for a hard sole with significant foot fatigue. I hear after substantial break in the sole becomes a bit softer, but let's be clear, you really want to buy an insole for these boots. And don't be discouraged if your angle or even lower shin is sore or bruised as these are a heavy leather that needs broken in over several days or even a few weeks. My advice - wear them for a half-day to break in the leather a bit, and then give a good coat of Redwing Mink oil after warming the leather with a hair dryer. The warm leather will soak the mink oil right up. Wipe off excess oil. Leave sit overnight, wipe off any seepage in the morning and then wear a half day again. Wear it in half-day increments until they are comfortable to you. Note that you should NEVER use cheap shining products or oils on these. No synthetics!! Mink oil is best and if you warm up the leather and give these a good oil after a day of wear they will soften up faster.

I love these shoes. A bit hard to break in, but very comfortable in the end. The laces look too short at first, but that it also resolved after break-in.Note: after buying on Zappos, I saw the same pair at a steep discount on Amazon - that didn't last long, though!

These are my first pair of of Redwings. I looked a Chippewas and Wolverines before deciding one the Iron Rangers. The other brands had people saying the heel fell off before a year of ware. I was nervous buying them still but the reviews I read and the craftsmen ship of the boots live up to the hype. The are really a great looking pair of boots. I constantly find myself staring at them. The fit was perfect! I'm a size 13 so I ordered the 12 cause the stretch a bit after a lot of use. I also have flat feet, still went with a medium with and it's perfect! Leather is stiff but not uncomfortable. I recommend give a solid 2 week of ware and any tight/stiff spots should break in very nicely. When I tie them I try not to make in to tight enough around the ankle to keep my heal from moving around and so the fold by the toe doesn't hit my foot. Overall they are a great good looking boot! Totally worth the price.

Just pulled them out of the box and put them one. If any issues, I'll update review. I usually wear a size 13 but am probably closer to a 12.5, but no one makes a 12.5, so 13 it is. I bought these in a 12 and they're plenty big enough even to wear with thick socks and an insole if you wanted. Width is great. Laces are short if you go to the top hook and I have standard feet, not skinny, not fat. Nice wide toe box too, not too wide that I'm sliding, just wide enough that my toes have room to move and breathe.

These are classic Redwing boots. Definitely runs large. I sized a full size down from tennis shoes and half size down from other boots. I normally wear a 9.5 in Vans/Jack Purcells, 10 in Nike, 9 in Alden. Tried on a 9 in the Redwing store, but felt loose with dress socks, doesn't get too cold in SoCal, don't wear boot socks very much. Tried on a 8.5 and it felt perfect. Ordered a 8.5 through Zappos. It took about a week for the boot to break in while on my feet all day (just bit the bullet). I almost didn't make it as by the end of each day, my foot was swollen to where it was super uncomfortable. I thought about exchanging for a 9, but glad I kept at it as they are way more comfortable after the initial break in period. I definitely like the lug Vibram sole over the other soles as the Vibram provides more traction on rain/snow. The laces do seem a little short, but long enough for me to tie them. It's harder to tie all the way up while wearing thicker socks. Love these boots!
