I love my Iron Rangers! I’ve never really had to “break in” shoes/ boots, but these do take some time to break in. After that, they are great. Definitely get some fully cushioned wool socks to help with the break in. I typically wear a size 12 in running shoes or Vans, but leather shoes/ boots I size down to 11.5. Got 11.5 for Iron Rangers and they fit great! I get compliments on them every time I wear them, which is surprising to me for how common these are. And the leather smells amazing!

I love the shoes from this manufacturer. Love the fit , construction and look. Unfortunately they had a couple of defects/irregularities that bothered me so I requested an exchange. And they sent pkg to wrong state after it was close to my home.

Fit ran large for me. Had to get a half size smaller. Narrow width at first but will stretch out after wearing. They are good looking boots. But for the price......very uncomfortable. I have wore them for 7 months and still hurt my feet. You can get a 100 dollar boot that is very similar with leather just as thick that is much more comfortable. Foot bed is very thin and you can see the nails in the sole/heel through it. I won't buy again. If they ever break in I will revise this review.

Okay, they look good! That is about where it ends for me. Really 2.5 stars but that isn't available. So 2 it is. For the money.....nope. I have several cheap pair of work boots that cost less than half of what these do and they were more comfortable the first time I put them on.
I knew about the sizing so I ordered a half size smaller than my norm and they fit great. Width is tight but stretching a bit after months of weekly wear. Not much arch support at all and the foot bed liner is very thin to the point where you can see the nail heads in the heel. Not uncomfortably coming through into the foot pad, but you can see them with your finger. I thought that was odd they didn't use something thicker. I ended up buying an insert and they are a bit better but cramped while working on the decade break in period:)
Cons: Pros:
-price is high -Look good
-not breaking in after 50+ days of wear and treatment -very heavy and thick leather. Will last forever if.....you can stand to wear
them for 8-10 years to break them in.
-no arch
-thin foot bed liner
-very thick leather that doesn't break in easily
-loud heel on hard surfaces
Bottom line: I will not buy them again or recommend. Unless maybe I become friends with the "Thing" of Fantastic 4 fame and he needs boots. His stone feet would do very well in them I would believe.
I'd also recommend:
Timberland, Danner, Wolverine, or the Red Wing Classic.

“Great boots. Superior quality, well crafted. Look good dressed up or down. Be sure to size appropriately because they run large.“

I usually wear a size 12D in Nikes but in these I was measured at the Redwing store as a 10.5W. There is no cushion on the insole. For me they were comfortable right out of the box. I will break them in for the next two weeks and will be adding a Spenco comfort insole to the boots after they have molded to my feet.

With these boots it’s generally recommended that you order them a half to a whole size below your typical size. I normally wear a 13, ordered a 12 and they fit perfectly.
Some people say that it takes a long time to break them in- in my case it only took a few days.
Absolutely terrific boots.

Ordered 1/2 size smaller than I normally wear based on research. Perfect fit! Not sure why people say the break in period takes a while, they feel great right out of the box to me. Guess I’m just used to wearing boots all day. They continue to feel even better the more they conform to my feet. Excellent boots.

I wear size 8 in dress shoes and sneakers. I ordered these Iron Rangers in size 7 and the fit was perfect. The Hawthorne leather is easy to break in, not like RW moctoe boots. My only complaint is that the leather on the toes of the boots have a slightly different texture: one is smooth and the other is rough. You have to look closely to see the difference. Fortunately, the colors match.

Fit, fit, fit. You really want to get these sized. They are narrow and very very long, and meant to be fitted as tight as possible while still having toe room. You will probably need to go a half to even 1.5 sizes smaller than your sneaker size. The leather will bend and conform to your foot after a little while.
They're much too narrow to properly fit an insole, and that's really not what they're designed for. Wear it for a while and you've got a custom fit.
Fantastic boots that will surely last a long time.

First off, they look great. I agree with others that say they run big. I wear a 12 in almost everything, but ordered 11.5 as recommended, fit is good. They are not as uncomfortable right out of the box as I expected after reading how long it takes to break these particular boots in. The sole is hard though, just cork and leather, no padding. If you’ve only ever worn sneakers there’s quite the difference. Have a ways to go to break them in, but so far so good.

Why do the Iron Rangers not fit true to the size of several other Red Wing Boots that I own? Other than that the boots are spot on. Break in isn’t as bad as expected.

As everyone else has suggested, these are beautiful boots with a great build that will last forever. Their weak point is definitely their insole. I recommend using an insole with these (they run very big, so you'll still need to size down), but to be honest, they don't play nice with most orthotic insoles. Superfeet greens have way too much volume for the geometry of these boots, for example. You want something very low profile with some cushion - Curex runpro low profile, for example, worked great for me.

Just unboxed them today, only worn for a few hours but I already know that these are a perfect fit and will only get better with time.
This is a sharp looking boot and light weight compared to what im used to. Bought these for all kinds of activities, but mainly just liked the looks and its been a while since ive had some new boots.
My other boots are Redwing Heritage 2268 engineers boots, they are 4 years old, motorcycle boots, they have been through some rough treatment and lots of adventures but are still holding up fine, i should get ten or more years out of them, they have a nice patina but can still be worn to town. Very comfortable but heavy.
It takes a little time to get broken in, so it helps to invest in some quality American Made socks, I prefer Thorlo’s.
These Redwing Heritage Boots are excellent quality and value, they are built to last and Im proud to be walking around in some boots that have “Made in USA” on the tags. The price is very reasonable, especially when one pair of boots could be expected to last for several years.

I bought these for my husband. He is normally a size 11 and I had to get him a size 10 wide as he felt the regular ones were too narrow

I have been eyeing these boots forever. I did a lot of research before buying them to ensure that I ordered the right size. If you would like a perfectly fitted boot, get a whole size down. If you would like a little wiggle room for wool socks or just comfort, then go a half size down. I went with full size down as it does not get extremely cold here in Southern Nevada, so I won't be needing the extra room.
For Simplicity sake, if you wear a 10 in Nike, Vans, or other brands, you'd be safe in getting a size 9. For comfort, get a 9 1/2.
Initially, these boots are fairly uncomfortable and tight. After 3-4 wears the boots have loosened up more and are starting to break in. Based on my findings, these boots only get better over time. So power through the initial discomforts and you'll have a go to boot for life. :)

First, let me clarify that, based on experience with this brand, I chose a half-size smaller than I normally wear; thus, the perfect fit. The boots I received were made recently and the leather is still supple, so no need to recondition right away. I changed the original laces for a more dressy pair but other than that they are perfect. The charcoal gray is more subtle than black and great for a casual or a semi-formal look. I highly recommend this brand!

The iron rangers I have feel great, a little stiff as the leather needs to break in, but felt right since first fitment. Not a lot of arch support, and a firm footbed and outer sole, but not unlivable. I would not recommend for walking on paved concrete all day, Red Wing makes much better shoes specifically designed for this and they are amazing for work use. I’m brutal on normal shoes, so I wanted something ‘tough but classy’ and serviceable. Order one size smaller then your regular shoe for sure ?

These boots look great and are holding up well after a year. They are not the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn, but they are great boots nevertheless.

I love my iron rangers I got the amber harness 8111 they are really nice. top quality leather with a vibram mini lug sole. I ended up sizing down a full size, after breaking them in for a few weeks, they are so comfy. they were tight at first, but length was good. after break in I have a perfect fit.

I purchased mine 3 months ago and I just can't go back to wearing any other boot or shoe. I use shoe trees at the end of the day to keep them nice and dry and to remove any moisture. It's been comfortable on my feet since the day one but it feels as if it keeps getting better with use. I do not like to wear any insoles and it was a great call reading other reviews first and then going to a Red Wing store next to actually try it on. One full size smaller is what i did and I'm glad. It needs to be a snug but with room at your toe box and then you wear it and let the boot break in. They develop a character of their own the more you wear them. scuffs cum off very easily by just rubbing them or using a damp towel. I took it to Red Wing Store to adjust a few of speed hooks. They didn't ask any questions were I purchased them from and gladly did the service and applied Red Wings new Cream to them which does not change the color of the boots. I don't often write reviews but I had to on these boot. I waited a long time to buy it and I'm very glad I did. I will be buying another pair very likely in Charcoal or Black. Buy it. you will be glad you did. Worth every dollar.
