Was looking for a a good light hiking boot. These feel good on smooth level surfaces but the soles are very slippery. I have fallen 3 times on a local trail that has never been a problem with other boots. Snow and ice they are extremely slippery, no grip at all. The tongue is very thin and the laces dig into my foot and ankle. The leather is very nice and pliable, so no pinching. For the price I am very disappointed and will not trust other NB products.

Both the representative on the phone and a salesperson at the shoestore said that this boot is a replacement for the MW978s that I loved. After several hikes, I am not convinced. The higher ankle rubs and is irritating when I walk. I can't wait to get them off! This one is just not up to the 978 standard. Please bring it back!

I need to first state, as I am reviewing a men's boot, that I am a woman - I need the width in the front of the shoe and these come in the 4E. I wear New Balance Leadville running shoes and they have been a lifesaver. So I was very disappointed when I received these. The tongue and the label on the tongue seem ridiculous on the pair I received - with all the other rave reviews, perhaps mine were defective, but the tongue is huge and these are going back. Maybe I will try some men's basketball shoes, but I do not think they come in the 4E.
I'd also recommend:

I ordered a 4X wide because I have a high instep. The sides of the shoes do not extend enough to cover the tongue.

Fit, size and comfort was pretty good. They just didn't hold up. After about five months the sole started separating and the flex points started cracking. If you plan on wearing these shoes a lot, don't bother, they will fail at multiple points and leak!

I am a woman, but New Balance 4E is not wide enough. The men's 6E is better, but still not wide enough. I'm disappointed that there isn't a hiking and trail show that isn't at least 6E with lots of toe room, especially for feet wider than 6E, with toes that don't taper, and with thick socks. I don't know understand why NB isn't making shoes much wider than 6E and with more toe room (not tapering at the toe). Need a rectangular tow, not tapered.

I have worn New Balance shoes for years and never had a problem until this pair. Shoe tore within 5 months of wearing. Bought in September 2020 so not much wear: Contacted customercare April 1 and still no response.

These boots are so uncomfortable. Usually 9.5 fits me in men's, but these slide around on my foot and hurt my ankles. Wish I had just got sneakers and stuck to Columbia boots!

The work boots were for my husband who has wide feet. These boots are a 4E and he couldnt' get his foot into the boot, too narrow. Disappointing since he likes the style of the boots. There are no comments regarding the size and arch support since he couldn't put wear the boots. They are being returned.

Stitching on the toe of the shoe is pulled - right out of the box - this shoe should not have passed quality control?

I bought a pair in January 2020. I wear them about 2 hours daily as I walk across the family farm with my dog. On September 2 2020 the front sole on my right foot came loose and was flapping as I walked. I expected more from NB especially for the price.

My last New Balance 4E width was perfect. This is more like a 2E width. Very disappointing.

I own several pairs of New Balance shoes all size 10 4E. The reviews for this shoe indicated that they run narrow. So, I ordered 10 6E and they are too short and too narrow. What is happening with the New Balance quality control? My last pair of shoes felt a little narrow and the only way I can wear them is to remove the insole which also removed some of the cushion.

I had to send them back because the arch in one of the shoes was bad. I have not got my new pair yet.

I ordered size 6E. These boots could not have been a size 6E. More than likely they were actually a 4E - much too small for my feet. I have returned the boots for a refund, which I have not received as of yet. Beware of any shoes made in Asia - China, VietNam, etc. Asian producers seem to make shoes smaller than size listed. It is as if they cannot believe how large American feet can be.

I expected to love these boots. But, the first time I tried putting them on one of the lace hooks broke off the boot as I was trying to tie the laces. NB quality is generally good, but this was shocking. The boots will be returned immediately.

The size was definitely undersized and the width supposedly being 6E is crazy, there is no way they are 6E, they felt more like 2E. they practically cut off the circulation to my feet.

I have purchased this New Balance boot before. However, I've never had a pair dig into my ankle so bad I've had to stuff padding in it. And this was from day one. I've had them for 5 days and not sure I can stand any more of a 'break in' period. I'm disappointed.

I normally wear 4E shoes and boots. I had to order these in 6E to get the right width. However the toe box is extremely small. It was crushing the tops of my toes and quickly became annoying. I decided to return the boots, because I'm sure I would develop an issue with ingrown toe nails, since the boot was pressing down on my toes so hard. I'm really frustrated with trying to find boots that fit. I'm a big guy 5' 10" 280 lbs and I like to hike. It's become almost impossible to find hiking boots that fit my wide feet. I was really hoping that NB would be able to help, since they usually support those of us with wide feet. I did find the New Balance MW1450W1 Walking boots, which fit me well in 4E. They are supposed to be water proof. I hope they hold up.

Bought these a year ago. Started using them in Feb. In less than 6 months the tops have come unglued from the sole. I only use them when walking around the back yard - about 3 acres. I tried to attach pictures put there is no attach file link in reviews. I liked New Balance when they were made in the states, but when the company tries to save money, their quality goes down hill. Yet the price of the boots are still high. Guess they just like the almighty dollar instead of a quality product for customers.
