I've had this jacket a month or two now and am so pleased with it. I love the purple color, but even more I love that I don't overheat with it. I can wear it on the skin track backcountry skiing when it's cold and don't have to layer up when I stop. It'll be perfect for my dabbling in SkiMo racing when they hold evening races! Brrr.

Not quite the super insulator that a down jacket would be, but I'm comfortable in this jacket over a huge range of temperatures. Its versatility makes it one of my go-to choices.

Purchased this jacket for use in the fall in Manitoba when biking, hiking or everyday use. Has exceeded my expectations by proving to be a great all round jacket. Provides great warmth and wind protection while being breathable enough to shed heat during high output activities like biking and skiing. I have used it in a range on temperatures from +10C to about -15C. I have used it cross country skiing a few times along with a warm base layer and it has kept me warm and dry. Stuffing into its pocket makes it easy to throw in a pack for an extra layer.
A good thing to note is that this jacket is a 'Trim' fit so consider that if you are ordering on line.

I purchased this as a warmer alternative to the Patagonia Nano Air jacket and it does not disappoint. The jacket is warm, comfortable and fits great. I am generally between a L and a M in OR products and the large in the Uberlayer fits extremely well. It has a good fit in the waist and shoulders while allowing enough room for layering. The hood is comfortable and fits well. The jacket took a little bit to soften up, but now feels like wearing your favorite blanket. The DWR is a nice touch and works as it should. I'm glad I pulled the trigger!

I have been using the uberlayer for ski touring. It's a great outer layer for active outdoor use. It does a great job of regulating body temperature going from a cold start to hot exertion and wicking sweat away from the body. The outer layer of the uberlayer can actually get damp from the sweat that is getting pulled from the inside. But better on the outside than trapped inside!

This jacket is everything it's supposed to be. It's warm down below freezing and able to breath and regulate body heat up into the mid and upper 60's (F).
I've taken mine up to Tahoe on backpacking trips in the winter with the temperature varying from 50's to low 30's and upper 20's and I don't even have to shed layers as I'm trekking with my pack on.
I'm very happy with my Uberlayer and find myself rarely taking it off.
The hood also allows me to wear my helmet and it fits perfectly.

I was skeptical about this jacket's claims that it will keep you cool when active and warm when still, but its true! I have found that I can use it for everything, from rock climbing to mountaineering to back country skiing. The only time I opt for a fleece mid-layer instead is when I know I will be stationary for long periods in a very cold place. My biggest complaint is that the small size is tight across my shoulders and a little short around my waist, so I have to get the medium, which is bulky around my waist so it doesn't fit under my puffy coat very nicely. Other than that, I love that the hood fits COMFORTABLY over a helmet, the zipper goes up high enough to act as a soft balaclava for your chin and mouth, it has a double zipper, a chest pocket big enough for a phone, mesh inner pockets to dry your gloves or socks in, and I get compliments on the cut and style all the time. I am even wearing it right now, sitting inside on a rainy day.

Super comfortable across a wide range of temperatures. Great when active in the single digits and teens, great hiking in the 20s-40s, and great chilling in anything warmer than that with just a base layer. Very versatile. While It's a little heavier than say the Nano air, but I dig the double zipper and adjustable hood (and the fit is more athletic with wider shoulders). Not super weather resistant, but will shed light rain fairly well and wont really ever feel wet.

I've worn this hiking and running in dry 20's, humid 40's and rainy 50's with just a sheer base layer. It's hard to explain, but I've never been uncomfortable wearing this. In the cold, I've felt cool but not cold. In mild conditions, warm but not too warm. In the rain with no shell, it wets out but I've never felt wet and it doesn't get heavy and clingy. It won't replace a puffy around camp, but It's a great 90% solution when you are active in cold to cool conditions and you don't want to worry about changing layers. Size medium fits as expected.

I bought one for myself, took it out ice climbing all season, and realized that I had to share the discovery with my dear wife.
I did - and now she wears it everywhere. It adapts to all conditions brilliantly, from howling wind to hot ascents, acting like a layering system of its very own.
Expensive, yes -- but, amazingly, well worth it for an extraordinary addition to the core kit.

I didn't really expect that a jacket could be so versatile -- but a full season of ice climbing has proven this to be the Bee's Knees ( as my mother might have said). Insulating from wild winds, breathable when working hard, dries out without chilling - the total package. And of course, meeting the Number One Requirement of all alpine gear, lightweight.
Stiff price, but performance that's worth it when conditions change hourly as they do in the Rockies...

This one is a winner. I have been using this jacket for several months mainly for winter bike commuting in WI and as a mid layer skiing.
A traditional puffy (micropuff, down sweater) tends to be a little too hot for me on the bike because of lack of breathability. The uber nails it. Down to the low 20's I wear it with everday clothes (light sweater or cotton hoody) underneath. In the teens, I put a midweight fleece on underneath. Or, adding a light windshirt beefs up its insulation value a lot as this shell on this thing is very permeable.
It's also part of my backcountry double puff system. I now use this instead of a fleece or expedition weight under layer and pair it with a lightweight down jacket for time at camp.
This is definitely for being active. It won't keep you warm just hanging out around camp.
I like the beefy zipper which won't break anytime soon. Double zipper pulls are nice for dealing with a hip belt or harness, but the bottom pull does tend to creep up a bit so I have to fiddle with it sometimes to get the jacket to fully unzip.
nice work OR!

I was skeptical that this layer would live up to the claim that it breathes when active but keeps you warm when still, but it definitely does! It's a great layer to have rock climbing, ski touring, and I think it looks great wearing around town too. I love the double zipper, and hood.

The Uberlayer is quickly becoming my favorite jacket. This jacket is very versatile, quite warm and comfortable. Great layer while ski touring and also wear it around town. Fairly windproof as well. Not as light as a similar down jacket but better in windy and wet environments, a better and safer pick than down in the backcountry.
Great jacket, nothing but good things to say.

This jacket has become one of my indispensable layers for my backcountry ski layering system. The Polartech Alpha insulation lives up to its claims, and truly provides a warm enough insulation while breathing enough to manage your aerobic movement. I wear this on every ski tour in the backcountry, and have brought it on several expeditions. Add this to your layering system. You will wonder what you did without it before you owned it. I am 5' 7" 135 lbs, and I wear a size medium in this jacket. *A quick side note: Once you wash this jacket, make sure to use the dryer balls to help bring the loft back to life, without the dryer balls your jacket won't return to its previous loft and warmth.

This is a great layer. Light, not too bulky, squared away for high reaches when ice climbing and was perfect for alpine touring under a hard shell.
Worn this in temperatures this season from +1C down to -14C (so far) and was awesome when boot packing up slope for a ski. The hood was ideal for the wind. Interior pockets were the solution for keeping my grazing food from freezing. No gimmicks. A great jacket all 'round.

Another great OR product. I was first interested in active insulation jackets when I heard about the Patagonia Nano Air, but OR has perfected the concept with the Uberlayer. The style and colors of OR's Uberlayer jackets look way better than Patagonia's.
It has kept me warm in freezing temps and dry in the rain. I have worn this jacket nearly everyday since I bought it, and I can't wait to take it XC skiing and skiing in the backcountry.
The only slight issue I've had is the jacket doesn't seem to stuff well into its pocket. It seems like the pocket may be a bit too small.

I've been wearing this jacket for over a month now. It is ideal in variable temperature conditions, whether by my activity level or the natural shifts in a CO day. The outer fabric is proving highly durable, no snags, no thinning areas or piling. The interior mesh fabric is KEY. The Uberlayer, aptly named btw, is great at letting the heat out to breathe, as well as hold it in when the zippers are closed. The hood fits on helmets, ski, bike and climbing. If you are looking for a great layer to gift to favorite lady or guy, this jacket would be the ticket.

Quite possibly the best garment that i have bought in years of buying OR. Breaths well, insulates well, great for biking in colder weather without extra layers, great for hanging out outside by the fire. Looking forward to trying it while skate skiing.
I love it. Keep up the great ideas and products

The Uberlayer has everything I've come to expect from OR. It's light and flexible but strong and warm. I haven't had the chance to push this jacket to the extreme yet, but I'm very happy with it so far.

I have now used this product ski touring, rock climbing, and on a canyon backpacking trip. The jacket seems sturdy so far, as I haven't managed to poke a hole in the face fabric yet. It helps retain a lot of warmth if you are active, but should be paired with a fleece, puffy vest, or other layers if it gets much colder than 35-40 F. The fit is snug, fitting under bigger layers, harness, or large pack (I am 5'10" 155lbs). Material stretches easily while climbing, scrambling, or skiing. I usually kept this jacket on all day, or only took it off during the heat of the day.

I wear this jacket daily since it came in the mail. It is perfect in Chicago Winters. As a stand alone jacket or a really warm mid layer.

I'm 6'3" 230 lbs and I bought this jacket in XL. It fits great. The only thing I don't like about the jacket is the wire in the brim of the hood. I have another OR jacket with a wire in the brim and some how it broke and is now wearing a hole in the brim of the hood. Rather than use a wire use some dense fabric that can be bent and crunched. Something that won't break when the jacket is stuffed away in a back pack.
