Three years ago the version they made was so flattering to a woman's figure that everyone I know bought one. I replaced it this year and the magic is gone! So you may want to buy something cute & functional instead.

The sleeves on the crew top are ridiculously long. To the point of being ridiculous! Why did Smartwool make the sleeves so longggg? Does Smartwool think that everyone wants to wear this crew top with these long sleeves???

The one pictured here is not the one I purchased. I got one that looked purple online, and several shades brighter than the one I received, which is just too too dark. I wouldn't have ordered it if the online picture had shown something closer to the true color. I will be returning this one for a refund. And what a bother that is.

The shirt is a little thin/light. It could've been a little heavier. Also the sleeve length is just too long. They should really consider making it shorter especially for petite size people meaning people who are 5 foot 2 1/2 inches in height and shorter. The sleeves is too long and to get it altered is going to cost a lot of money because alterations are very expensive. Everyone is not tall and everyone does NOT have long arms.

So disappointed, either the cut is changed or the material, very sloppy and pilling.

The 250 top and bottom are very warm and do not itch- great for skiing on cold days. However, I am very disappointed with the quality of the top and bottom material. I have only had them for one season, and the top and bottoms already have many multiple tiny little holes in them. The material has thinned out a ton- I can't believe how many little holes have appeared on the top. I will be returning them to the guarantee department for replacement.

Thinner, Rougher, Worse Fit
I agree with many of the recent reviewers Smartwool base layers are unfortunately no longer worth the purchase.
I have been wearing Smartwool base layers for over 20 years, but in the last three years the quality has noticeably declined. The fabric has become thinner and feels rougher and more scratchy against the skin compared to older versions. The fit has also changed for the worse: there is too much excess material around the chest, underarm, and back areas, while the torso and sleeves are overly long, resulting in an unflattering and awkward cut.
The piece I recently purchased will be returned.
It is disappointing to see a brand I trusted for decades move in this direction. Unless Smartwool makes a serious effort to restore their previous quality and fit, it may be time for long-time customers like myself to look for alternatives.

I have purchased smartwool base layers in the past, but their quality has diminished. I purchased this base layer top and another bottom and compared to my other ones. This one is thinner and it feels lighter. Now I know my other one said Merino 250 in the back of the shirt and in the back of the bottoms, but these don't have the Merino 250 logo so I don't know what's going on at Smartwool but they need to get their act together and improve their quality. Also, the items tend to get holes in them, even after having them only for a short period of time the wool tends to get a hole in it. Also for this top, the sleeves are ridiculously long, just ridiculous! They also should consider making petite size clothing for people who are on the short side
I bought this top to match the bottoms that I have from a while back so that's why I bought this top because I wanted to match. If I didn't have the bottoms, I would have sent it back.

Smart wool quality has gone down. I have the exact top from 3-4 years ago and it far surpasses this one. Ah well this is common in so many previously great brands.

I was given one of these tops in 2012 and marveled at how warm/comfortable/perfectly amazing it was. That one was starting to lose its elbows, so I replaced it earlier this year. The new one has significantly longer sleeves and torso, which is strange. It pilled on the second wear and the fabric is scratchy and rough, like cheap wool. Nowhere near what this product once was, and not the quality I expect from Smartwool. Disappointing.

I have this shirt in maroon and a gray/tan as well, both in a size M. The black one I just purchased has much longer sleeves, I'll have to get them altered, the shirt is wider and it stretches and gets bigger as you wear it. I was under the assumption the same shirts would have the same fit.
