Over the last five years, I have purchased about seven of these shirts in multiple colors. I wear them as a stand alone shirt in the winter, for hiking, and I use them under my scrubs at work year round (air conditioning). Although the quality has diminished a little over the years, these are still the best shirts ever! They are worth every penny - although on sale is really nice! They are very soft, breathable, and dry quickly. The body of the shirt is long enough to keep your back covered or tucked in securely. The sleeves length is generous but not monkey length. The other benefit is they do not get stinky easily. I love wool! Hint: To keep shirt looking great, air dry overnight.

I love the feel of this shirt. It fits perfectly, arm length is nice and long and the fabric is beautifully soft to touch. Definitely a new favorite layer.

I love this SmartWool T. I have them in several colors, and this charcoal gray is perfect. They are like a sweater, but hold you in, in all the right places, hiding the "lumps 'n bumps". I'm 5'4", 120 and wear size S.

This is the top of the line, for the warmest, softest wool layer you can imagine. It is very thick, and you can go with your usual size; it is not overly tight at all. It feels like a very thick cotton t-shirt, like you are wearing 2 long sleeve tees, yet not in a binding way. It is wonderfully warm, so much warmer than their lighter layer. I wash it inside out, line dry, and it is holding up very well, as compared to the lighter layer which shows a lot of pilling. This is the very best you can get if you want an incredibly toasty insulation without any bulk. One less star for style because the neck is so high it does affect wearing it under sweaters...I don't use it for mountain/ski life, so I don't need such a high neck peeking out through various sweater necklines.

I love these shirts. They fit and wear like a regular long sleeve cotton layer T, but have the bonus of merino wool--so soft and warm. I have this in the lighter layer, and decided to try the heaviest one for maximum woolification. I expect it to pill like the other shirts (boo) but I still greatly appreciate the warmth. Not too tight, thankfully. One little wish is that Smartwool comes up with this same weight, but in different necklines (V-neck, scoop neck) like the lighter versions. Zappos delivery is the best!

Excellent base layer that blew synthetic out of the water! I wore it to work, raking leaves, and on a winter hiking trip and was impressed with how comfortable (didn't even notice a scratch feel!) and how well the top wicked. I was pouring sweat during the hike and the shirt was dry in what felt like just a couple minutes.

These shirts feel good against my skin, don't itch, are substantial without being too thick, seem well-made, have a good hand due to the density of the knit, come up nice and high on the neck, are made with flatlock seams for durability, fit well on my narrow shoulders. Oh, and the sangria heather and marlin heather are both beautiful colors. All in all, exactly what I've been looking for. I just have to bite the bullet on the price.

True to size. Base layers are supposed to fit like a second skin, so if you want it to be a looser fit like a sweater and if you have long arms size up. I can wear both the small and medium.

The Nile Blue Heather is just as it appears so a lovely shade of blue. I bought one size larger for comfort and it’s perfect-still form fitting. It’s warm and not at all itchy.

It’s soft and comfortable. I’m size small but since this is a middle weight base layer I didn’t want it to be tight and went for the middle size. It fits great. I already washed it and didn’t shrink (machine washed, warm water, no fabric softener, hang dry).

Obsessed. I’m 5’7” 36B 130# with a very long torso and the medium fits perfectly. So soft and very flattering fit. I can’t wait to wear this fly fishing, skiing, backpacking and biking. Will buy more as my budget allows.

Very soft next to skin, warm, thoughtful design with seam placement etc. I'm 5'3", 115 lbs, the small fits well. I wear this as a base layer. I love it.

I love this. Slim fit, I'm 5'3" 114 lbs and the small fits great as a base layer. I think the price is ridiculous so I wont buy another right away, but the quality is great and I love merino layers.

Love this smart wool NTS mid 250 Crew Top! great charcoal color, soft material, wide hem at sleeve bottom and hem, add to the stylish look... i wanted a looser fit , so ordered a Medium, i am 5'5" and 116lb and was very happy with fit for a cute look with jeans :) and Zappos always amazing with speedy delivery even to Hawaii right before Holidays !

Don't you hate when you want to just rock a sweater but have to cocoon yourself in a jacket and layers to stay warm? Well, I have the solution for you: this is a hard-hitter when it comes to warmth. It's the highest level of warmth from Smartwool, as well as from the competitors. It is very soft, and fits comfortably, so it is true to size. Wear this and you can coat check with comfort! I will knock off one star because it is designed for athletic purposes with the high crew neckline: this doesn't allow for other options if it is used as a layer under cute outfits with different necklines.

This is my favorite shirt to wear while running in cold weather. We don't get much cold weather in Texas but when it does get cold, this is my go to shirt to wear. I highly recommend it.

I'm obsessed with these tops and now own 5 in different colors. Base layer.. of course but they are absolutely cute enough to wear as regular casual tops. I sleep in them, I ski in them, I lounge in them, I brunch in them. Love, love, love!

I have 5 of these base layers! They are amazing. I wear them just a top (not necessarily as a base layer) on cool days and they keep me toasty!

Wore it as a warm layer when the temps crashed in March. The Current Heather color is lovely and fit is very comfortable.

Hiking and golf

Just bought this top with the matching color headband. Very easy care and no concern of having the fBric snag!

This will be great as a warming base layer in the coldest temps. So excited to try this out! The color is nice as well.

Haven't worn it yet, but I am sold on Smartwool products. Perfect for cross country skiing and love the pattern!
