Just like any north face product this jacket was great . Even though it's light it is very insulated and warm . Living in the Windy City this jacket comes in handy.

The jacket looks great, fits me (6 feet tall, 160 lbs.) perfectly with sleeves just the right length. Features like zipper pull and pockets are fine, keeps the wind out too. It's the expected warmth that's not there.
I first wore the jacket outside, 43F, no wind, light base layer and my arms were Cold. Once I started hiking it held in my warmth just fine, but standing or sitting in a cold place it does not retain my body heat.
That said, I've increased the thickness of the underlayers and the jacket is fine.
I haven't hiked with it and a backpack yet, nor taken a bike ride. Will I wear it skiing? Can I get enough layers on under it? I'll know in another month.

This is a nice jacket it's warm and extremely lightweight. The only downside is the price. I think it is very overpriced. Also, there were a lot of loose threads not cut on my jacket when I got it.

Got this jacket today. Wore it during the day and it kept me warm, but tonight at 42 degrees (feels like 37 degrees according to the weather site) with a brisk wind, I felt the cold come through. I was wearing a thin sweater underneath so maybe with a sturdy fleece it would fare better. Nice jacket and I'll enjoy it through Fall, but not sure how well it will work through winter unless I make sure to have thick layers.

I actually returned this item because it arrived in a tiny envelope, and turned out to be very lightweight, much more than the website indicated. It might work through late fall, but I can't imagine it being substantial enough for true cold.

TNF should display the right color in its website. The shade that I got is quite different. TNF should not ship if the exact color is not available.Returning this item.
Not happy.

I was super bummed when I lost the hopeless version of this jacket cause it was the perfect jacket. Fit great, not super bulky for running around but warmer than my Nano. Living in NW Montana it was perfect. Wanting to replace it it and liked the hood option I ordered it but it fit different. Thight across the back which made the sleeves short. I wasn't able to layer underneath. I ordered a medium which is usually the perfect fit. Ended up having to send it back and going with a different brand.

I mixed up my reviews. I had purchased the Thermoball in both an XS and a S. The XS was too small and too short. I was going to keep the Small, but there was a tooth missing in the lower right part of the zipper. I was bummed, but I'm afraid to order the same coat, because the zippers seem to be cheap.
I am still waiting for my returns to be processed. Hoping both coats make it back to The North Face soon.

CONS: I was worried about the warmth of this jacket, and unfortunately it didn't pass muster. I took a chance on it because of all the great reviews, but it didn't keep me warm in 40 degree weather. I live in Oregon, so it rarely dips below freezing, but this still won't work. Also, I'm only 5'5" but wish the jacket was a good inch or two longer; I found myself constantly tugging at the bottom. And the cinches around the waist are located in the front of the jacket with the extra cord going into the pockets, which was odd and annoying.
PROS: This jacket has a simple, streamlined style which I liked, and the Gray Quail color is a gorgeous mauve/lilac with gray-brown hints that will go with anything.

I LOVE my Thermoball jacket so I was buying a second in a different color. This one is just as warm but seems heavier. Not sure if the fact that this one is 'matte' has anything to do with it or not. It wasn't as easy to pack this one in it's own pocket as my other one. I prefer my other Thermoball jacket that is lighter but I'm still going to wear this jacket! :)

Bought this item three weeks ago, and there's already a hole. You would expect more quality from a jacket this price... I still really love it, it's warm enough for my Canadian climate before and after the rough winter and for when it rains. I just thought I would use it for the next couple of years, instead it might do for one or two years max.

I love the fit of this jacket. I have received many compliments on it. However, I am very disappointed in the quality of the fabric. I have not worn the coat more than a dozen times and it has two rips on the same sleeve. You should be able to wear your coat without it tearing, the material is sub par.

Like, I suspect, many plus-sized women, I have been searching for an ultra-light-weight travel jacket. Having ordered and returned several, I really don't think there are any out there. North Face, I bet you could sell a bushel of them. This jacket came recently and I loved the weight, the color and the way it looked. Then I tried it on and was very sad. It fit perfectly in the shoulders, sleeves and arms, but no way would it go around my hips. I don't think I'm a weirdly-shaped plus-sized woman, but you should know that our hips are a little larger than those of a teenage boy. PLEASE think about making some clothing that fits actual people.

The North Face is making their coats for tall people now ... way too much extra material in the upper back and shoulders on almost all of their coats and jackets. It puffs way out and gaps on the back. I'm 5 feet tall, the XS would work normally. They should make petite sizes since they changed their patterns to accommodate tall people. Also, from a style perspective, the sleeves are way too wide on this jacket.

I didn't even put this on... I got the "Darkest spruce strata print" and it is REALLY green. The photo looks like it is black/grey/white but it is definitely green. Am returning immediately and will try a black one.

Very thin. Definitely had to put a jacket under it in 30° weather. Felt like a plastic bag. Probably will be returning.

VERY THIN! not the 550! Super cute in the light pink but only for temps in the 60s or above I would say.

I was surprised by how thin the jacket is, I thought it would be a lot heavier.

I got this for a winter coat and when it came it's really light. I would say this is more like a spring jacket. Don't get this if you're looking for some of those cold winter days.

Super Cute coat. Just not very warm. Very lightweight. XL fits perfectly and allows room for a sweater or 2 underneath. I'm 5'7" and 180 pounds.

I tried on two colors and they were different from each other. The black with green zipper was larger, thicker, and the wrists were very tight. The cool blue was a tighter fit, thinner, and the wrists were just right. The cool blue's zipper is a very bright orange.
I needed the jacket for So Cal mornings which are in the 40s at the coldest. I kept the cool blue because I would be walking and didn't want to sweat. I can feel the cold on my arms/in the sleeves when it's in 40s though.
I'm a fan of this jacket. I ordered small. I am 5 ft 110 lbs.

I live in Oregon, and bought this to use as my winter coat, because it doesn't get too cold here usually. But this is more like a jacket. It is very lightly lined, and does not keep the wind out. I found myself having to put another jacket underneath, and together they feel like a coat should. I also answered their questions on which size would be the best for how I want it to fit, and when it came, I was swimming in it! Had to return and get the smaller size.
