The Black Sapphire on the website looks slightly blueish. Mine just looks like washed out black.Makes the coat looks a bit cheap sadly.

When I'm fully zipped up, with the hood on, the jacket rubs uncomfortably against my chin. And it's not a soft fuzzy fabric that lines the interior facial part. The fabric puckers inwards. Could be a factory default. But try each jacket on before you buy because we should know better as consumers. Always a chance of a stitching and sewing flaw. I recommend this jacket for those looking for a warm down jacket, and I'll wear it for years to come. However I'd love to compare and find out if my issue is a flaw in design, or an anomaly.

I searched and searched for a truly waterproof winter coat...and I found it. I especially appreciate the adjustable hood and two-way zipper. The fabric is a bit stiff though and the sleeves run a little long. I purchased L, which is what I wear. It fit well everywhere except the sleeves, which are about an inch too long. I just rolled them up...

Pros: This is the warmest parka I've ever owned. I feel like I'm inside a tank when I walk through windy and wet city streets. You still probably want layers under your pants, maybe a light scarf and a pair of gloves in the coldest days, but in 15F degrees and single digit windchill, I was fine. After 15-minute walk around the city, my core was little sweaty, even. I'm 5'4, and this jacket comes below my knees. Feather shedding has been minimal. In the subway and buses, it is way too warm. Marianas color is deep eggplant, navy-purple-ish color that's different from an ocean of black puffers but does not stick out. There are no crazy logos screaming "come steal me" and overall, very understated but stylish. While this jacket fits big on me, I still do not feel like a giant grape. Cons: Here is every con I could think so far. This parka has a weird fit between L and XL. I wear Beta AR in large and while both Patera and Beta AR are considered athletic fit, Beta AR is definitely designed for layering and is bigger. I suggest trying these jackets on before purchase. Patera L was way too tight across chest in this jacket so I ended up buying XL. While I love this parka, XL is way too big on me on the shoulders and arm length is way too long. I wish there's a size between L and XL. I had harder time closing the wind flaps because the snap buttons are little small for my fingers. Outer layer is more like a fabric so it can pick up dust or pet hair. Nothing that sticky roller won't solve, but something to consider for others. It uses coreloft in the material too, so this isn't the lightest parka ever. For petite folks like me, longer length also means longer arm length and might feel that the side pocket sits little low - but the pocket itself is so big, you can play with the zipper on the pocket to keep your hands warm. Overall, I love this parka and will recommend it for anyone. I can count on it whenever 'arctic chill' hits the neighborhood. It might be big on me, it's one great bomb shelter against winter weather.

Bought the patera storm color in 2013. Very warm jacket - but the zipper was a bit finicky. Eventually the toggle broke, and then the zipper started to split during my first season wearing it. I brought the jacket in during the summer to get it fixed because the turn around time was 2-3 months. They were very good about it and even contacted me to ask what color of zipper I wanted. Wore the jacket for another season and the same thing happened - first the toggle of the zipper snapped off, and then the zipper splits. Contacted Arc'Teryx and again it needs to be warrantied and apparently this is a very common issue with the jacket, and they are replacing the zippers with a more durable zipper that is seen on another jacket. I am not sure why they aren't just putting these more durable zippers on the jackets to begin with (even if it increases the price) because I would rather pay a bit more for a jacket so that I can actually wear it in the winter. It is going to take time to warranty the jacket again, so I have to wait and actually slip in and out of my jacket in the meantime. Apparently because of this jacket there is a huge back log of repairs... Suggestion: Get a size up so that the zipper doesn't pull when you sit down (I think this puts tension on it and it starts to separate). OR send the jacket in during the summer and pay/ask for the more durable zipper to get put onto it. I will say though that Arc'Teryx does stand by their products, and they are very good quality. It is unfortunate that this jacket has issues with the zipper because otherwise it would be the perfect jacket. The warranty team are really nice, I would suggest calling them rather than emailing back and forth. A+ on their part for working out a way to get my jacket fixed!

I LOVE everything about this coat! It's super warm - I live in a part of Canada where -30C is not unusual in the winter. It's so lightweight & comfortable to wear. I recieve complements on the styling. I love that it has so much more to offer then the Canadian Goose Parkas - water proof, machine washable, super light, not cumbersome. The only thing that I wish it had was a drawstring inside at the waist. While the size medium fit beautifully through the hips, I bought a size large to accommodate my large bust (I wanted to be able to layer, the medium was too snug in the chest to do so). With the larger size, I find it a bit drafty from the bottom. I would give this coat a 5 star rating if I could cinch the waist for a better fit & prevent the drafty feel.

Would have given 5 stars if this parka had a drawstring. For a garment this long it would be helpful if it had a drawstring to control updraft while walking in windy conditions.

I bought a size small and the fit on my 5'1, 119 lbs frame is just perfect. The parka reaches to my knees which is what I wanted, arm length is just right and there is enough room for a nice warm sweater. I wondered about the band around the waist if it was going to look awkward. But on someone my size, it fell right on my waist. I like the material they used. I like the style, I think you can use it for casual or formal occasion. The only sticking point, are the zippers. It's very hard to zip up, and took me several tries to get it zipped up. It was easiest if you're sitting down as you're zipping. It is annoying and If there was a reason for me to return this parka, it would be because of that. I can't comment on how warm this is, but seems to me it might hold up to our Canadian winters.

I love this jacket, it's practical, both warm and dry, big hood, soft & deep pockets, warm yet not bulky, I love the band around the upper waist, it is great for walking around the city on cold winter days and in the back country too. I love this jacket..

I bought this jacket this winter. It's really warm and the cut is amazing (fits broader shoulders nicely). However, there are some issues: The front zipper is really tricky to close and I always need to take off the gloves in order to do so. It's annoying Also, the inner pocket is too shallow and my cell or cards keep falling out. I always keep it closed, but in stores where you need to open it to get the cards then bend to pick up the stuff you just bought, everything just falls outmy cell broke this way Considering the price, the design should be better.

I bought this 2 weeks ago. 5'5" 120 bought a medium. I am I'm between sizes. Small was a little short in the arms and I could not layer anything with it. The length is really long, to my knees. Warmth is marginal - at 25 degrees I was cold. It is very good in the rain. The fig color is gorgeous! I own 5 other Arcteryx pieces- so I am a fan. This Parka just did not pass the test. I am bummed.

I'm 5'0 and 110-115. I am normally an XS or S in arcteryx and went with an XS in this coat. I am still drowning in it! the chest fits perfectly and I like the long length but the shape is not flattering at all since there are no baffles or cinching or any other detail to show where the waist is. I look like a Navy log... BUT it is warm and not super loud like a rain jacket, outer Fabric is softer.

Bought this one month ago. Just hiked around the grand Canyon and cold temperatures and snow/hail. There are so many fantastic details to this coat. Very well thought out. Two major misses however. first, the bottom snap at the base the zipper is too small and in adequate in holding together. This needs to be a larger, more robust snap. Second and most importantly, at least the last two bottom panels of the coat interior have absolutely no down or insulation whatsoever. The panels are soon but there's nothing in them and so the coat does not keep me warm. Both of these things should definitely be remedied.

The colour macrame is beautiful, the style is flattering - but the coat is to my opinion not warm enough for wintertime. I am wearing heavy fleece under and here in Denmark we have max minus 5-6 degrees. I would recommend this jacket for autumn or early spring, but not for winter.

I just bought this to test it out in the New England area. Went out in 31F weather and I definitely felt cold creep up the bottom of the parka and onto my upper body. I was only wearing a light sweater underneath, but this is never an issue when I only wear a light sweater with my Marmot Montreaux. As I walked around for 20 minutes in the weather (no wind, just 31F), my arms felt a bit chilly as well. I know the down and synthetic down is distributed in such a way that the arms are a bit more of a cool area (to allow ventilation and waterproofing) if the material gets wet). The positive is when I walked inside, I wasn't immediately dying from overheating. It does seem like it'd be a great coat for someone moving in and out of buildings. As for sizing, it is a loose fit. I liked how sleek it is on my body, but again the bottom of the jacket nor the waist do not have a cinch, so cold air will creep up. I wish they added a cinched waist. I am 5'6" and 112 lbs, and the xs was perfect. I could fit a crewneck or hoodie underneath, but it'll be slightly tight. For my use, I'll either return, or I'll have to wear a light jacket/sweater underneath if I choose to keep it and the weather drops below 32F.

I'm 6' and have a very hard time finding a coat whose sleeves are long enough and which is fitted enough to be flattering. This one was expensive but perfect. HOWEVER, as some other reviewers noted, it's not as warm as I thought it would be. While surprising, for me, this isn't a big deal. If I'm actively moving about I'm fine. If I'm going to be sitting, I just add another base layer. The big negative on the coat is the zipper. It's horrible. Within the first week of wear (which consisted only of commuting to and from work) the zipper was splitting from the bottom constantly. It's a challenge to unzip, getting stuck at the bottom constantly. To top things off, today the pull snapped off. I'm currently using a paper clip to zip and unzip my coat. Incredibly disappointing in such an expensive coat.

This jacket is everything I hoped it would be warmth wise. It's super comfortable and fits well over my layers. However, it gets dirty very easily, and stains super easily. It's been nearly impossible to get out a light dirt stain when getting splashed by a car. I really would not recommend getting this color. Also, the zipper is not great, very frustrating to use. For such an expensive jacket, I would expect higher quality.

Tried this on in store and the zipper is horrible so I didn't buy it. It is a real dealbreaker for me, and this frustration is expressed in many of the other reviews here. Don't understand why they can't just take the feedback and change the design because people have been upset about this for years.
