I love just about everything about this coat, with one exception... it's not warm enough for me. I've wanted this coat for ages but didn't pull the trigger until recently. I loved that it is windproof and waterproof. Had it been in the $300 range, I would probably have kept it. But given its price, I am returning it. I currently have a Marmot Montreal and Mountain Hardwear Downtown. They are both very warm but very puffy, with massive amounts of down. I hoped this more slim-fitting, streamlined coat would be comparable since it's more attractive, but I was freezing when I tried it out this morning. If I cannot wear this in October, January would be out of the question. Perfect coat for warmer, wetter climates like Portland, Vancouver, or even the British Isles.
I'd also recommend:

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I never write reviews but I'd like to give back since others' reviews were a huge help when I was figuring out which winter coat to buy. I wanted my coat knee length, rain-proof, durable, multi-functional, and warm. I narrowed it down to the Marmot Chelsea and the Arc'Teryx Patera which are both knee length and have reviews claiming they're warm. The Patera's price tag was a serious push to my budget but it just looked *so* great (and I'm pretty vain), and all the reviews out there were promising so I decided to give it a try. I purchased 4 coats, 2 of the Marmot Chelsea (S and XS) and 2 of the Patera (S and XS). I'm 5'3" and weigh 113 lbs. I'm petite above the waist (but not flat) and carry most of my weight on the hip and thighs. I got the Chelseas first (because Zappos has the best customer service on earth). The XS fit like a bag - I was disappointed. I immediately called and asked for a return label to be mailed to me. Note that at this point I was still lusting after the stylish, sleek look of the Patera, which is what most customers rave about. I finally got the Pateras from Amazon weeks later. Oh The Disappointment. What changed? In the one week I'd been waiting for the Patera, I'd worn the Chelsea and given it a try, and it won me over. Firstly, no, the Patera also made me look like a bag. None of that sleek silhouette thing. It had a crinkly, plasticky feel, and wrinkled pretty bad. (That may be a technical feature but as an urban user I'm not a fan.) The zipper is horrible, cheap. No wonder everyone says their zippers break. The inner zipper pocket is even cheaper. The pockets are not lined as nicely as the Chelsea. The warmth factor was awful in comparison. I'm always cold, I have a mild case of Raynauds Syndrome, and the Chelsea kept me toasty shoveling snow in upstate NY with just one sweater underneath on a windy evening, and there's enough room to layer even a thick sweater. The Patera gives no layering room, and offers less built-in warmth, so you'd have to size up, but then your silhouette disappears just like with any other coat. I'd say the S in Arc'Teryx fit me the same as the XS in Marmot. And lastly, if for nothing else, I'd have returned the Patera simply because of how bad the collar kept hurting my chin and face. This product is terrible for the money. Maybe they did spend a lot in engineering this product, but the execution is poor. If you want to spend that much, just buy Canada Goose and be done with it. I'm keeping the Marmot Chelsea, because the more I wear it, the more I feel like online reviews complaining about it's silhouette had got me in a biased mindset, and I do think it flatters my shape, for $300 less, and with a lot more functionality.

I figured I write this review as there is only one other review to go by. Arc'teryx is by far the top top of the line in outerwear. I bought this coat as a present for my wife. I've been buying this brand for many years. Basically anything you purchase from this brand is going to last forever. This is hands down the warmest, bomb proof coat you will find in a form fitting design for women. What I mean is, if you want warmer you will have to forget about being sleek, shape complimenting or should I say, the ability to tell there's a woman in that coat look. Warmer would require more bulk. This coat is so well made. You can easily laugh in a torrential down pour of rain. Water can never penetrate that outer layer. My wife loves the look, the feel and fit. She especially loves the hood. Cake to adjust to your head size and will stay on in a hurricane. Not like the other companies out there with their ancient style pull straps (Canada goose) you pay all that money and get garbage adjustments. Yes Canada goose is warmer but you look like a marshmallow. If it pours rain that coat will take on water. If you like the outdoors and want to last out there, this is your coat. Bomb proof! A woman's style with a man's technical quality. Hope this helps in your decision

Love this coat. Very light weight. Fun light blue color. Keeps me very warm and dry.
Some reviewers have commented on the zipper. It's a double zipper so just gotta get both of them all the way down to the bottom and touching. Then it zips up pretty easy. I show it 2 min into the video.
Others have mentioned the hood flies back. It has things that can cinch it tighter. I show that at the top of the video. They're a little hidden. But they keep the hood looking nice when it's pulled tight. Very functional and nice.

This coat is true to size. I am 80kg 173cm height and bought a XL. The coat has sufficient room for mid layers without losing its feminine shapeliness. Do be aware that the Black is really a smoke/grey or charcoal colour but still looks fab. It's expensive but ideal as urban wear in colder weather.

I bought this jacket at the same time as the similar Patagonia jacket. I wore both for a few days (kept the tags hidden). The Patagonia has a longer zipper but wasn't tight at the bottom (and was 2 jackets in one...which I would not separate honestly)...so wind still came right up from the bottom. I kept the Patera for the following reasons. What I love about this jacket is how great it feels when I put it on. It's so comfortable and so, so warm. It is light as well. Also, the hood can be a little funny but once I cinched it in the right spots, its perfect and protects me from the elements. I live in a Seattle suburb and live at 1000 feet. So we get a ton of wind/rain. Plus after this last snowstorm...yes snow in Seattle! BAD! It held up great and kept me warm outside shoveling snow, sledding, playing with my boys, ect. The coreloft and down along with gortex outer layer is awesome! The small snap at the bottom is a little annoying as it pops open all the time. I haven't had any problems with the zipper as noted in some of the other reviews. The only thing that bugs me at all on this jacket. I wish the zipper was longer. I purchased with crimson color and love it. Get lots of compliments on the color. I have many arc'teryx jackets, I've paid the most for this one. Hope it holds up to the standards, not too worried though, as all the others have.

When I bought the Patera, I was hoping for a warm parka that I could use when my knee-length down coat wasn't warm enough. For those minus 15, 20, or colder days. So Sadly, I am disappointed, as the Patera doesn't feel any warmer than my lighter-weight down coat (same length). When wearing the Patera, my legs & butt always get really cold - The coat doesn't seem insulated or fitted enough at the hips & below to hold in warmth. I also find the Patera bulky & crinkly - which would be fine if the coat was warm & cozy. But since I prefer my light-weight down coat, I don't really have a reason to wear the Patera. I can wear an extra layer & snow pants with my down when it is super coat & be more than warm.

It was time to replace my Canada Goose Kensington and I spent a lot of time looking around. It didn't seem to me that I needed to spend that much money to get a quality parka. I love the Patera. The fit is perfect. It looks sleek but still leaves room to add a layer underneath if it gets colder so it is great for city life no matter how cold it gets. It also looks stylish enough to wear out.

I will jump right in...I needed a warm (down) coat that would withstand sudden weather changes (moisture from rain or snow). I also desired a good fit with a "pretty" color. By design, this coat is made to be warm in colder temps but not fridgid temps. However, with the new cut/fit in loosening up the waist, I can now layer for those bitter cold days. I am an xtra small and as stated, the waist of last year and years prior, was too fitted to allow layering. This limited the coat's function. When I had tried going up in size to a small, I looked like a little kid wearing my big sister's coat. Too big everywhere!!! I am petite at 5'1". 97 lbs. Now, with the new cut, the coat is truly functional for any variety of cold conditions. AND the color choice available for warm-toned skin makes my heart sing! (Wavelength) I have porcelain skin but I am an exception in that I also have warm-toned skin which has yellow undertones. (Most porcelain skin is cool toned with pink undertones.) Arteryx doesn't seem to offer much of a choice for paler warm-toned skin...in any of their products. The color choices are usually for cool-toned skin or darker warm-toned skin tones. Please consider including more colors for warm-toned skin. All races have either cool, warm or neutral (combination) skin tones. And when we wear colors that compliment our skin tone, we look vibrant and more beautiful. It's that simple. The color Wavelength, is so perfect for my coloring, I have received numerous flattering compliments. In addition, as the coat fits perfectly and can handle layering, it is a clear winner. You hit this one out of the park, Arcteryx!!! Thankyou.

This parka is PERFECT for times when it's cold (-1C)/rainy/flurrying. I wore it a few days ago when the weather was doing exactly that, and the parka kept me warm & dry. I didn't even need to layer (as opposed to if I were wearing my Codetta rain jacket). Some reviewers commented that this fits large, I don't find this to be the case at all (I'm 5'7, 120lbs, and am an XS in all tops). This parka will for sure accommodate chunky sweaters/sweatshirts too.

This is an amazing parka. It is so well designed and made. It is perfect for winter wear both for outside fun and for causal dress. I totally love it. It fits perfect as well. I bought a small and that was totally the right size. I usually wear a size 4.

I love this coat. This is my new favourite coat. I wore it all winter. It's warm and waterproof - just what I need in Vancouver. The length is perfect. It is a little pricy but it's going to last for a long time so just amortize the cost. It's worth it!!!

I purchased this coat in mid-winter. We live in the Pacific Northwest and this jacket is perfect for our weather. I think it could also be good with layers in colder climates but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet. It was a bit snug so I sized up from my usual medium and it fits perfectly. I love the color and how nice and dry I stay in the rain. It was expensive but definitely worth it!

This coat is fantastic for the colder or cold and damp days of winter when my plain down jacket won't cut it. It also dresses up easily for the office. I get a lot of compliments on it.

My husband bought me this coat for Christmas. I love this coat, it keeps you warm, its comfortable, and looks great! I have searched for a good coat like this to be outside when I am walking my dog ( who loves the snow) and one that is a great fit and actually keeps you warm. This coat makes me want to go outside in the winter :) Buy it you will love it! I bought a small, however it was a little too big, so sent it back for a S/P and was perfect. And no problem with the return :)

I was procrastinating for ages due to the hefty price tag, however, when I finally bought my Patera, I realised it was the best winter coat I ever owned; warm, light, waterproof, super-practical and stylish too. Best Buy ever!

I'm a senior living in north central Alberta who goes for a daily walk. This coat is the perfect outerwear for this activity. It's well designed for our winters combining warmth, lightness, generous sizing to accommodate layers with that wonderful Gore-Tex weather proof fabric. Gore-Tex is amazingly durable. So happy I invested in this coat.

I absolutely love my Patera Parka! I went shopping for a winter coat and told the sales person I was sick & tired of being freezing all the time (I run cold!) and asked that they find me their warmest jacket. The sales lady said she had the perfect jacket for me but forewarned me that it'd cost a pretty penny. I'm no sucker but do believe you get what you pay for (in most cases). This is worth every penny!
I also love that its stylish and sleek yet does not compromise on warmth and is not bulky!
I did have an issue with the zipper so I called their headquarters in Canada. The guy was incredible and shipped me a new jacket via Fed-Ex next day - free of shipping charge, of course.
Customer service is amazing and I can't wait for my next Arc'teryx purchase. Thanks guys!
