Gift for our daughter who carries a lot of weight for school items, books, laptop, etc. Much easier on her back then other packs we have tried.

I purchased one of the older Surge backpacks from North Face early in my high school years and have still been using it six years later. It has been such a wonderful backpack, I couldn't imagine using anything other than The North Face. This new Surge backpack is so nice to wear, even with pounds of books inside! It doesn't strain my back, as my old one did, also it is very light and doesn't make my back sweat if I'm walking in the heat for a long time. I love this backpack!! I plan to order another one for myself, as well as a few others to give as gifts.

Love the look of the grey heather. A good matchup between professional and functional

Great book bag overall. Somewhat small on the inside, and zippers are somewhat hard to get to. But other than that good build.

Purchased this backpack for my daughter in college and she loves it. It is very comfortable for carrying heavy books and is heavy duty/well made so it will hold up to every day student use and abuse. Easily carries her laptop, tablet and all her books for this soon to be doctor.

I bought this backpack for my son when he went off to college in 2007. It still looked and was totally awesome until it was stolen out of his car when he moved to Dallas for his first job. I just ordered him another since it's now perfect for work, laptops fit great!

Bought this as a day to day back for travel and commuting on the train. Really nice design, stitching and organization of compartments. The material is very sturdy/ hard wearing. Love the multiple handles too. Much more practical than most backpacks out there.

First of all this is a very well made pack but for me its base weight is too heavy and it's designed so that the shoulders bear all of the weight. The laptop compartment is to tight for anything but the slimmest laptops. The fleece lining is nice and the pockets are well thought out. However the waist strap is USELESS. to have it around the waist the pack sits to low (i'm 5'10") and it takes no weight of your shoulders at all. This pack is defiantly not designed to be worn for long periods of time but would be a great school bag or for carrying lap top and documents on planes, trains etc but not good value for money for this purpose. Cant recommend for any outdoor activity.

I honestly hate this product so much. I bought it for school, and it is huge, bulky, and ugly. It has way more space than it needs. It's so awful that I decided to find a different one, but all of the styles are so ugly and awful right now. I'm very disappointed in the North face brand. Now, I am going to go to Patagonia, because this company is awful.

I am a nursing student at Edgewood College. This backpack is great because my homework load is quite heavy most days. I love 35 minutes away from school, so this is a great backpack for commuting and carrying home my heavy workload to and from school.

Love the backpack so far!!! I was able to put the laptop on the backpack at the airport. I love carrying an obscene amount of stuff and I didn't feel like I needed make space.

Outstanding durability, flexibility, and functionality. Purchased this to replace old computer bag. Excellent for lugging my laptop, work clothes, etc on commute to work via bicycle. Great for personal carry-on for flights ... easily fits laptop, toiletries, books, magazines, accessories. Lots of pockets and storage. I give this a 10 out of 10!!!

I had the older model of the surge back packet, and it was not the best bag because the zipper would tear the bag. When sent the bag to North Face they sent me the new model. It was a complete upgrade and could not be more satisfied.
