I use this for school. I have to carry a lot(at most 3 1.5 inch binders, 3 textbooks, a couple English books, a couple folders, a pencil case, laptop(which goes in the laptop compartment, and fits fine, doesn't cause a problem), and iPad(which goes in the tablet compartment, and fits fine, doesn't cause a problem)). This backpack sort of fits everything, except that I really have to force the last few things in it. I wish there was a bigger backpack from Northface, because I would buy it in an instant. I also carry so much that I ripped part of the backpack, but I'm not sure if I want to replace it or find a bigger backpack. If anyone is considering this backpack, it's a great choice as long as you don't carry as much as I do. Even if the backpack was a teeny bit wider, that would be amazing. But, if you are considering this backpack, and don't carry as much as I do, I would get it! It's a great backpack, just doesn't fit everything I need!

I use this backpack for college and let me say that it has been the best backpack I have ever invested on. Not only does it look good but it also feels good. Great back support whenever carrying those big books on your back.

I purchased two of these packs, one for myself and one for my daughter (we are both back in school). After a considerable amount of research amongst leading outdoor brands, I decided upon the NorthFace Surge and seriously so glad I did. I was looking to replace my Patagonia day pack that was coming apart at the seems; mostly because I was exceeding it's weight load capacity. Comfort and carrying capacity were our main concerns. We got the women's versions, I literally can not get over how comfortable the pack is even when it is weighed down with ALL the necessities of a full-time student. Additionally, being a mom with a daughter who has night classes and wouldn't think twice about going on a long hike by herself, I was sold on the built-in whistle feature. The fleece lined pockets are so soft & protective I don't even use the protective cases for my glasses or laptop - I just toss them right into the designated pockets. If you are searching for the perfect backpack, search no further!

I bought this backpack primarily for school which was a great decision due to its laptop sleeve and also the large main compartment. I also use the backpack if I'm spending a night or two at a friends if I have to bring several things.

I use this for school and for just carrying stuff around. My laptop and tablet fit great in the designated sleeves. There is plenty of room and there are great compartments for little things.

I have had the surge backpack for two weeks now and have used it every days since. I commute to work and use it for my laptop and books. It is roomy enough for both and all of the other things I used to carry in my purse. The surge backpack has essentially replaced my need for a purse and I am now down to carrying all of my gear in one simple to use bag.

Using it for college. It has so much room, places for my computer, phone, etc. One of the best backpacks you'll find. Good look to it too.

My previous backpack was starting to hurt my back. The Northface Surge carries everything I need and since it sits higher on my back, it's comfortable and feels lighter than the old one.

Well, I see this product very useful. I purchased this backpack thinking about my future trips because I travel a lot but I also will use it for work since the backpack has a lot of space to keep my laptop computer, iPad and so many things. I love the brand and I love all the products because they're cool and I would buy them again.

I really do love this backpack. Was surprised with how much room it had for my books. Has a special pocket for my iPad. The straps help balance weight which has really helped my back. I've had less back problems since I got this backpack. Even if this thing broke, I'm certain my next one would be a North Face backpack!

I use this primarily as my work backpack. I work on the railroad and I'm required to carry a lot of heavy bulky books and paperwork at all times. This bag easily fits everything I need to carry with room for extras like my wallet, gloves, water bottle, etc. It's super lightweight & comfortable and that's a huge need as I'm lugging a heavy bag around through out the day. It's easy to open to get to my things without them getting lost and having to dig deep to find anything. I also love all the extra little compartments. Love this bag.

This backpack is really well structured. I carry a lot of weight in my backpack at school, but it doesn't feel heavy when it's on. It has plenty of room in the main compartment and all of the pockets are very convenient.

I'm in school to become a paramedic, and after years of beating up on my old North Face backpack working on the ambulance, I needed a replacement that would carry all my books and work gear. This backpack had enough space to fit my books/binders, as well as my comouter, and keep my work gear organized with the smaller pockets. Even packed with stuff it's comfortable, and it came in some great colors. It's durable enough to survive EMS, but is also stylish, fun and great for outdoor and everyday use. Absolutely recommend!

I really appreciate the S-strap. It supports my figure beautifully. It does wonders for my back, and am glad I made the decision to purchase this extravagant item from your company.

Super for my college student. Good room for books and the laptop is well protected. I am taking this to Europe and it will also serve me as a weekend travel bag.

I use this as an everyday bag for work and travel. When traveling, it often turns into our day bag for camera, extra batteries, jackets, snacks, etc. It is a great all-purpose bag.
