I adore Birkenstocks! When I lived in Germany, I noticed that EVERYONE was wearing them. So I visited the local shoe store and bought my first pair of Rios. I now have quite a collection of several different styles! Without a doubt, Birkenstocks are the most comfortable sandals on the planet and the fun boho style is absolutely fabulous. Love!

I bought these in burgundy color 30 years ago, and they still are going strong. I have now purchased them in black and love the fit and look.

LOVE these sandals. They're beyond comfortable and the footbed makes my feet feel like they're walking on a cloud. After years of wearing cheap sandals with no arch support, I find this pair a major relief.

Received these sandals the very next day after ordering (love zappos customer service). They look and feel good. I wear an 8 and they fit well-only issue is back strap doesn't tighten to ankle-even at last hole. Not a problem for me since I like to wear my sandals a little loose and it make it easier to slip them on and off without unbuckling. I expected this-since I read other reviewers posts before I purchased. These Birks are slightly more feminine than the Milano which I like, since I wear these out and to work. I highly recommend these. Only complaint is that there were no other color choices besides black. If these are your first Birkenstocks be sure to give yourself about two weeks worth of wear before you decide if you like them. Takes a little while for the soles to mold to your feet, you to get used to the toe mold and the leather to loosen up. Once it does, and you get used to them they are fabulously comfortable.

Best shoe purchase in a long time. They mold to your feet after only one day of wearing them. Back strap is super comfortable for all day wear. I'll be saving up to buy them in other colors. I usually wear a 6, but had to send them back for the smaller size. Zappos makes it so easy to get the shoes you love!

The foot bed is very comfortable, but I found the sizing on this sandal to be impossible for my foot. The 41 was way too big (the back strap came nowhere close to where my heel lay in the shoe, even on the tightest setting), but the 40 was too small. Also, I wish that I had not paid attention to the Birkenstock instructions to order a "Narrow" if your foot is medium width. My foot comes nowhere close to being "wide," but the narrow was too narrow given Birkenstock's instructions to have 1/8 inch leeway on the sides. Like any shoe, this one just doesn't seem to work on all feet. But the overall comfort and quality were excellent. (I found the styling a bit clunky, but not compared to most Birks. Another shoe with a backstrap that is a bit more "feminine" in style is the Bali, but it is available in fewer color options.)

These are the only brand of sandal I can comfortably wear all day long. I have metatarsalgia and flat feet, and Birkenstock soles fit my needs. My feet are also narrow, so the Rio is perfect. They look and feel great.

Super comfortable sandals. There are few options for birks that have a heel strap and are not too clunky. Great fit and look nice with pants and skirts!

Lovely shoes! They shape to my feet after a few days of wearing. I didn't get any blisters. I usually wear a seven but I got a six and they fit great. I would definitely recommend sizing down by one.

Very excellent sandal from the first day I wore them. They are great quality and also good for long walks. I own many pairs of slip on Birkenstocks and bought these for more support and long walks.

Love this shoe! I have a few pairs of Birkenstock sandals, but was looking for something for my pre-teen daughter. I needed a good sturdy supportive shoe for her developing foot that also had a bit of style but looked closer to the sandals that she likes to wear. Enter the Birk Rio! She loves them! I liked hers so much that I bought myself a pair!

I unfortunately listened to all the reviews that said these run big. so, I ordered 40 size smaller than my normal size. I have a pair of rios from years ago and they are size 40, fit well. The new 40s back to back (as well as fit) are smaller. They were indeed too small and sent back. Thank you for easy return Zappos! I have another pair on order, size 41, for a 10-101/2 woman's size shoe. Which is what the size chart says.

These were rather nice. A bit utilitarian looking but that's Birks, I think. Returning because they were too big and the next smaller size is not available/sold out. If they come back into stock I may reorder.

I plan to order a Different Birkenstock style: Arizona or maybe Milano (that has a heel strap). I love the Birkenstock footbed !!!! I actually liked the Birko Flor. It is just my foot: I need to be careful about ankle straps (due to a tendon that can act up). Because the sole does not bend much at all: too much pressure on ankle strap. When I can keep an ankle strap a little LOOSE: I am FINE.

Loved the style & fit but not the stiff straps. If this came in the Nubuck I would have kept them.

I have a size 8 3/4, so I normally order 9s. The reviews thought they were smaller, so I bought the 8s, but my toes were on the outside rim, so I ordered the 9s and they fit well. The shoes are comfortable, but I will have to get back to you in a year to see if they wear okay; the straps seem thin, so I wonder if they will last. I purchased them because of the rear strap to help keep them on.

Width is right on, accounting for the fact that Birkenstock's narrow is equivalent to medium in most other brands. Length is about a full size longer than most other brands. Probably size down, unless you are familiar with Birkenstock sizing. Quality? I mean, they are Birkenstocks. They aren't real leather, but it's a very nice synthetic. Soft, but sturdy. Footbed is stiff at first, does have a break in period.

I am very glad I read the reviews here before purchasing my first ever pair of Birkenstocks because their sizing advice was spot on. I usually wear Women's size 9.0-9.5 in wide-width but I followed the advice to size down one size and found that the size 39 in Regular width fits me near perfectly. I say near perfectly because although there is a comfortable amount of space between my toes and the toe bar, my very wide (duck-like) feet leaves no room left width-wise. My feet isn't spilling over but it's definitely a snug fit. Despite the snug fit in terms of width, I found that the Birkenstock Rio was pretty comfortable right out of the box. The straps are thick but doesn't rub my feet painfully and I love that the back strap helps anchor my feet. I am still getting used to the feel of the flatbed which is a little firm for me but I am really loving my Birkenstock Rio experience overall.

I have wanted a pair of Birkenstocks for years but couldn't keep them on my feet. So I was thrilled to see a pair with a backstrap. Alas! Birkenstocks and I were just never meant to be. I have friends who wear nothing else spring through summer.

I have wide problematic feet: bunions and plantar fasciitis. This shoe would have been very comfortable in regards to the PF. It was comfortable on my right foot, but did not work for the bunion on my left foot. A good product that I will sadly have to return.

Wish I had not read the review saying these ran big. Got the smaller size and they weren't long enough and by the time I wanted to reorder, my size was sold out. It is hard to find Birkenstocks with an ankle strap that look good. I think these would have been good if I could have gotten my correct size.

I love the look of these Birks! They're my first pair. I love minimal styles, but typically don't like the wide, chunky look of Birkenstocks. I also dislike how my feet slide around in slides. The Rios are feminine and extremely comfortable; the wide, supportive straps really hold my feet in without cutting into my skin. The shoe itself is light and easy to walk in. I got a normal width, but they look like a bit wide. I took the advice of the other reviewers and ordered an entire size down. I'm typically a smaller 6.5, but sized down to a 5. I'm so glad I did! They fit perfectly, and a 6/7 would have been huge. Overall, expensive but worth it. Comfortable on my first day, and I bet they'll be even better worn in!
