The fit and size are just like my other Birkenstocks and I love them. They will get much more wear when I go south this winter and probably daily during the summer months. Like the style a lot.

Because the back side of the strap does not adjust, the fit seems 1/2 size too small. Comfortable, so trying size larger.

I have 41 in Salina and other Birkenstock sandals with no back strap. In Rio, my toes end up too close to the front edge, so I will need to go up to 42.

So comfortable! Right out of the box! I wanted something nice enough to wear to work but sturdy enough to stand up to my daily two-mile walks at lunchtime, and these shoes are exactly what I’d wished for. Remember to order one size smaller than you usually wear.

Since I needed a sandal with a back strap I tried the Birkenstock soft footbed Milano sandal. Although it says unisex it is male sizing and is very wide, I need the women's narrow. I usually wear a 9 or 9 1/2 shoe and according to the chart, I ordered size 40 narrow. It was too big so I returned for a size 39 narrow which is perfect! The only request I have would be more colors and soft footbed! I love this sandals style and fit! If more colors become available I will definitely order them.

I have been looking for a black sandal, would have preferred something a bit more "refined," but couldn't find the level of comfort I need. So I reverted to my default sandal brand: Birkenstock. This is my fifth pair, also owning Arizona (X 2), Milano, and Tabora. Like another reviewer, I wanted the security of a back or ankle strap, and choices with that feature are limited. I hope that, in the near future, Birkenstock adds a style similar to Rio with a bit more refined leather and buckle, not quite so uni-gender. They do seem to be offering more feminine styling in some models without sacrificing the classic cork footbed. For comfortable, healthy feet, Birkenstock is the standard.

I have been wearing Birkenstocks for years, and purchased these for a trip to Europe. I liked the fact that they had a backstrap and looked more streamlined compared to other Birks. I found that wearing them a bit loose was more comfortable for me with the upper strap. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, and I would buy another pair if more colors were offered.

I bought these for my daughter as a gift. She does a lot of walking, and needed some supportive & well-fitting shoes. I ordered the wrong size, and she called you & asked what could be done. Great basic backstrap Birk. Comfortable with no break in needed, wore them for 8+ hours at work. I am a size 7.5-8 and ordered the 38. Perfect fit. I suffer from plantar fasciitis and Birkenstocks help alleviate the heel pain.

These run a full size larger. I typically wear a size 38 but wear a 37 and the 37 is perfect. super cute! love them.

I wished I read the comments saying that I should order a size down. The ones I ordered are too big. I can moved my foot a bit and I know that if I can get a size smaller they will be perfect. ??

Ohhh, these feel good. They are a little clunky for my taste but I will keep them and wear them all the time because I can't walk around a city all day in flip flops anymore.

Love these, helps with my plantar fasciitis. Comfortable and true to size, may have to add extra holes to fasten the buckles once they stretch a bit. Wish there were more jazzed up colors to chose from instead of just black and white. Overall a great shoe!

Very comfortable shoe. Im so glad I read the reviews and brought a size down. I wear a size 8. The size 7 was perfect. No need to break them in. My first day wearing them I was out for nine hours. My feet could not tell. Buying another paid for my daughter.

This sandal is very lightweight and comfortable to wear, even for an extended period of time. Though the sole changes color after you wear the shoe several times, it is not too noticeable and does not bother me!

Comfortable and very durable. I unexpectedly got myself into a easy 3 mile hike - these shoes held up nicely an were extremely comfortable.

I wanted to love these sandals. The fit was accurate and the synthetic leather was soft. However, the arch support was lacking for a Birkenstock and it made for a flat footed walk. Sorry to return, Zappos. You are the best company I've done business with.

These are perfect! I like the ankle strap because my feet slide around a bit in Birks, & the strap keeps me locked & loaded. I don't have to grip my toes so much, so that's cool. Very comfy! I normally just wear my slippers around the house but my Birks are called into duty when I have to stand in the kitchen for hours at a time. So I'm usually in Birks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any large meal. Not all that festive, but my back & my feet appreciate the added comfort & support! My only complaint is that I do not have a wide foot, but my toes are not very angular so I have to purchase the medium in order to keep my little toes from hanging off on the ridge. That makes the sandals pretty wide and I really have to buckle up tight to stay in them. Not a huge problem, but I wish I could wear the narrow as it would fit the rest of my foot so much better.

These are great and seem to provide very good support, but the vanity sizing is ridiculous. I am US size 8 but will have to return these for a US size 6. If this is the first time you've worn birkenstock, be prepared to downsize up to 2 sizes to get something that fits.

I buy Birks because they are almost the only brand that are wide enough for my nominally Men's 8.5 (US) length feet without going a size larger. My previous Birks have had the problem of instability: shifting around on my feet at a comfortable strap tightness too much for driving or extended outdoor urban walking. The Rios haven't had that issue AT ALL, to the point that I haven't had to buy my usual too-long walking/driving shoes since getting them. BUT: If you have not previously bought Birks and have wide feet, try going a half-size down and "regular" width, or you'll be using Zappo's generous return policy.

I'm a die-hard fan of Birkenstocks-- They fit my wide feet and have good support. I wore my Gizeh's till they were ready to fall apart and needed to replace them. The Rio is work-appropriate and slightly more dressy than most Birks, in my opinion. Plus the straps fit my thick ankles and high instep, so that's a plus. I've barely had to break these in, much less so than other pairs I've owned, as well.

Runs very big! I had to send back to go down another size, after ordering a size smaller than usual. And even now, I think I could still go down a half size.

These are my favorite "Birks" to wear barefoot. I have a narrow men's foot, so the narrow width is perfect. I order all birks one size lower (size 42 = 9) than my US shoe size (size 10). I have custom orthotics, but as with all Birkenstocks, I don't need them when I wear this sandal. Arch and metatarcil support is excellent, the deep heel also holds my foot in place. These Rio sandals have a hinge on the back, so the easiest way to slide them on is pull them over your foot, then pull back on the arch strap, then be sure the back heel strap is straight and it will slide right up. Bingo! I wear these as much as possible, especially in warm weather. The triple straps keep the foot bead firmly in position as you walk.

Comfortable but leave marks on our wood floors. Not happy with them. Old Birkenstock shoes did not have thos problem.
