First off, I think these pants are awesome. I've taken them on a few hikes so far and they've kept me warm, but not hot, and most importantly, dry. Spring hiking here includes navigating trails with streams running across them occasionally. These pants have not let me down once in that regard. The sizing in the waist seems a little small to me but my normal size still fits. I have a 35"-36" inseam and the long inseam fits me perfectly. Now to the seam connecting the bottom of the leg: they are just too tight. They are uncomfortable (in that seam) when I sit down. And I don't feel as if I have large thighs for someone my size. This is not a deal breaker for me though.

I purchased these based on people's reviews and ordered an 8S. I'm 5'5" around 130lbs and carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs. I usually wear a size 6 or 8 in jeans but based on the reviews about how tight the zipper fits around the thighs, I bought the size 8. It fits perfectly without any thermal layering and does feel tighter around the thighs, but not so much so that it cuts off circulation or anything. It might feel a little tight overall if I wear something underneath, but I don't think going a size up will help. It sits well just under my belly button and doesn't gap when I sit down like most pants do. The material is soft and stretchy like other reviewers mentioned. The short inseam ends at my ankles, which will be fine for hiking purposes. All in all it's a great pair of convertible pants.

I love these pants and they are very comfortable. However, after a couple hours of wearing the fabric stretches A LOT. When trying on, size down or buy them a little snug. They will stretch out. I'm 5'8" and 137 lbs. I usually wear a size 8 but I think I might have to buy a size 6 for the next pair.

I bought these for a 5 day Inca trail hike to Machu Picchu. The days started very cool and warmed up enough to appreciate shorts on the accent. They are comfy and stretch for maximum comfort. They are breathable, wick and dry rapidly. A great multi purpose pant that isn't "nerdy" like most zip offs. I am 5'7", 125 lbs and I ordered a small tall.

Mostly comfortable and nice looking. The only weird thing is they are a bit tight around the zip off spot on the legs. I ordered a size up based on other reviews and they fit fine!

I don't know why people feel this pant runs small. I ordered a size up based on the reviews and they were too big. I am 5'3" 112 pounds, athletic build, and normally wear a size 2 in pants. I ordered a size 4 and they were too big. Could have ordered my normal size. I otherwise really like them- seem like durable and versatile hiking pants.

I have been looking for a functional, multi-tasking pair of pants for my first thru-hike of the rugged Appalachian Trail next year, and I thought I found The One. I'm a 5'4", 185lb female CrossFitter and have the thighs that go along with it. I was surprised to find that I fit in a size 12 given that my hips and thighs measure more than my waist; the material is stretchy enough to fit comfortably whether standing, lunging or squatting, but for an Active pants style (articulated knees and all), the leg zippers seem to be the dealbreaker to an otherwise awesome pair. At the knees and bottom half of the thighs, these pants feel more like bootcut rather straight cut. I think I'd have better luck with the Modern Classic style, but I think it'll be too much at the waist. Or maybe just size up to a 14 instead. Either way, I will definitely be returning these. Please fix this, Columbia!

Bought these for a backpack trip in a 10 short and they fit well. The zippers on the legs could be looser...but it was all manageable. Was even able to convert to shorts with my boots on, with some wrangling but it still works. The khaki does show trail dirt so have gotten green (sage?).

My sister loves her size 10 in these but I'm easily a size 8 in the shorts version (which are a bit too short for me). They fit great except regarding the diameter of the leg zips, like so many others have said. Took me a while to decide if I'd keep them or send them back. I kept them, but couldn't wear them on a steep hike or sitting for long periods.

Just what they're supposed to be. Close fitting but comfortable. Important that the shorts are long unlike some other brands for women. It would be better if there were at least one larger zipped pocket.

I have two pair of these pant--black and beige. I love the dual function but the beige ones wrinkle easily and often, the black ones don't. If you are going to have this type of item it MUST be easy care. And oddly, in my experience, some colors are better than others.

I loved these pants when I tried them on. Unfortunately, I didn't sit down in the dressing room. They fit great standing up, but as soon as I sit down they are so tight around the thigh where the zipper is that it's painful. There is no stretch at this section. Not sure if I'll return them since I threw away the tags. Maybe I'll just try to lose 10 pounds.

It is a beautiful pants, perfect size for my waist and hip however around the zipper is too tight, I cant wear it, so sad. If you have thick thighs this is not for you, unless you buy a bigger size.

I ordered a pair for my daughter and myself. I really like the material, perfect for hiking. However, as other reviewers have stated, it is uncomfortable tight with no stretch at the zipper in the thigh area. I was unable to bend my leg without it tightening and forming a line at my thigh. I am a size 12, so I figured that these just weren't made for curvier women, but my size 2 had the same problem. Sadly, both of these are being returned.

I ordered these for an upcoming cruise to Alaska and I really wish they worked out. They fit great in the waist and hip, but the zipper in the thigh is very tight. They thigh itself fits fine, but that zipper digs in an extra half inch to inch and pinches uncomfortably. I tried unzipping the legs to see if that would help, but that seam is just too small. I don't understand the fit since it feels fine above and below the zipper. Returned. And unfortunately am being charged for return shipping.

I'm a rugged camper and need new pants for my upcoming trip and hiking part of the Appalachian trail in New Jersey. I came across these particular pants. I'm a size 12 and 5'7 at 182lbs. After reading some of the reviews here, I decided that it's better to be safe than sorry so I sized up to a size 14. I'm glad I did because if I went with size 12, there would be no way I would have worn the pants and breath at the same time. No way. The size 14 fits my waist but a tad tight around the bum and thigh area. The zipper is definitely tight at the knee and the lower leg are loose where I have to pull the string at the ankle to make it look straight leg but then it looks like a balloon. From what I see, I have 3 options, either exchange and HOPE that size 16 will do(ugh) and be delivered before my trip, lose more weight so I feel more comfortable with the performance of the pants or return for a refund. Ahh I guess I'll go for option 3 and Go to the store and try a few on. This is the downside of ordering clothes online. Maybe they will fit, maybe they won't. I do not recommend these particular pants with women who have curves. These are made for women who have no rear or hips.

Really liked the fabric, ran super straight and needed to size up. I am normally 14-16 and needed 16W

These pants are odd. They are mid rise (who wants mid rise?) and have little stretch, so that's not the most comfortable. They are super tight on the thighs - the zip off part cuts into your leg. I say this as someone with skinny legs. I even sized up for comfort, but that didn't help much. They are quick dry, and overall easy to move in. I had to buy them because it was one of the few talk options for zip off hiking shorts. I wouldn't recommend them to others.

These don't fit high enough on the waist for me. Also, these aren't long enough even though I ordered the tall.

Nice pant that shrank a bit when first washed, so I have to return it. Plus, I really wish Columbia would make this style of pant in a high rise. In this low rise version, the zipper is laughably small/short.

Don't get me wrong. Generally Columbia is my fav store but I've always had problems with sizing of their pants. I already got this pants in 10Short in INK and they fit a little too large for me to the point I need a belt so I ordered a 8 Short for Tan but the pants are too tight around my waist, butt, and thigh area. Had to return them. I find that in general the same sizing can fit differently across different pant styles. Very hit and miss.

I have lots of Columbia pants. Most fit perfectly. These don't--I can't even zip them. They're at least a size and a half smaller than I would expect. In addition, I have muscular legs and the zippers for the conversion are REALLY uncomfortable. I basically can't wear these pants at all, and they went straight into the donation bag. This was very disappointing because I loved the look and color of these, they're actually available in variable lengths (SUPER rare for hiking pants at this price point), and the material felt great. I wish that they followed most of the Columbia sizing, but apparently all the "Saturday Trail" stuff is just cut in non-standard sizes.

These pants fit relatively well however the zipper on the knees are very tight. Walking around in them is fine, but any squatting or kneeling in these is incredibly uncomfortable because of the zippers on the legs are so restrictive.
