I spent way too much time researching these boots. So here is my short and sweet review. If you are 5 buy the Huntress, they only come mid-calf. If you are a supermodel with VERY slim calves order the Hunter Original. If you are normal and want to wear jeans and/or Hunter socks by the adjustable. They look amazing with the detail in the back and are a little different to what everyone else is wearing. I usually wear a 7 1/2 to 8 depending on the shoe. I ordered a 7 and there is plenty of room in the foot. The height comes almost to my knee - perfect. I ordered these at 8pm and they were on my porch by 3pm the next day! How can you beat that? You can't!

Score! After trying Jennifer by Kamik, Rider Emboss by Bogs, Classic Glosh Rainboot by Bogs, Top Solid Rain Boot by Chooka, Huntress Gloss by Hunter, Lorraine II Lite Rainboot by Rockport and the Chain Link Boot from Walmart all size 7 the Hunter Original Back Adjustable Gloss is the only one that fit best. I am a 7W/WW with a 15.5" calf (Wide/Extra Wide Foot, skinny ankle and wide calf) and this boot fits! Whew, after all that work. And I don't even have the pleat in the back open all the way. It's narrow enough in the ankle so it hugs my feminine curves and doesn't give me elephant ankles! If you have wide calves and narrow ankles, this boot is for you. OMG! I have been lusting after Hunter rain boots for 2 years, and even thought it doesn't rain much in the California Central Valley (Hello Drought!), I'm still going to rock these! Finding these boots made me feel like Goldilocks and the three bears. My boyfriend originally got me the Original Tall because I wanted the red pair and to sport them with socks, but to my dismay, they are too tight in the calves!!! Then... I exchanged them for the Huntress, but Hunter changed the buckle on the side, and it looked cheap, plus they weren't tall enough. Then I got these babies! Tall and adjustable? These truly are the best of both worlds. If you want that classic, tall Hunter rain boot look but with some extra width, get these!

Tips: 1. If you have wide calves like you cannot fit into the regular Hunter boots, then these are perfect! I have muscular, 17 inch calves and these boots fit me. I can wear jeans, socks, leggings with them and they still fit. Of course, it's a little snug on me so if you have smaller calves than me then it should be a great fit. I know some girls who have 15 inch calves who even prefer to wear these. 2. These are also wider than the Huntress (Hunter's Wide Calf 13 inch boot.) 3. Yes, these boots are 16 inches tall but I'm 5'1 and the height of these boots do not seem too tall for me nor do they irritate my knees or look awkward. 4. There is an awkward bulge at the ankles (for some reason the boots do not narrow at the ankles) when I wear my boots. I have them in black and it doesn't seem to bother me so much. 5. Overall, these boots are great! I can't complain too much especially because they are designer boots for a wide calf. 6. The size does run a little large, so if you are a half size then size down. I am normally an 8-8.5 but when I ordered a 7, it felt too small and tight. I personally liked having a little extra room in my boot for the socks.

I have muscular calves from running. I have a hard time finding tall boots that fit. The adjustable back allowed these boots to fit around my calves. However, not only do they have wider calves, they also have wider ankles. I don't have wide ankles so the boot had a whole lot of extra rubber at my ankle. At first the wide ankle didn't bother me but the more I walked in them, the extra rubber would "bunch up" made them really uncomfortable. These boots are too pricey to not fit perfectly. So, back they go!

I was so looking forward to getting these and since they aren't cheap I really debated the purchase. Sadly they are going back. I have 16" calves but these bunched down around my ankle a bit and looked awful for such a pricey boot. I could get them on but they were a pain to get off, and I found that the adjustable area was too high and in a spot where I didn't need the extra width anyway. I am 5'3" and have worn 16" tall boots before with ease but these just hit me in all the wrong places. I may have been able to make them "work" but for this price that seemed silly. It stinks, I wanted hunters but I guess if I want them I'd have to settle for the short.

These are the boots for wide calf or wide foot ladies! I tried on several Hunter boots at a local store and none of them fit me properly. The Original would not even let my ankle get through (or my calf!). The Huntress was snug but too short. I wanted the glossy tall boots! I saw this pop up on Zappos and instantly bought them since I could return them if they did not fit. I have 16" calves and normally wear a size 9 in tennis shoes and 9.5 in heels. I had a broken toe on my left foot which makes my foot a bit wider than normal. I have the expansion almost all the way out. I bought size 9 and did not go a size lower than my normal size. Thank goodness! They fit perfectly with medium weight socks (think tube socks). Definitely grab these boots if you want the Hunter Tall Glossy with expansion for larger calf.

I wear a size 11W shoe and have a 17.5 inch calf around the widest part of my calf. I was really unsure if these would fit but was so excited to put them on and have room for jeans too. The adjustable sizing is so worth it. They slipped on easily with my wide foot. I was truly so excited to have boots that fit me and a Hunter boot too! I have bought them for my daughters in the past but my wide calf kept me from having my own. These are great for wide calves!!!

Beautiful shoes! I have the refined Hunters but didn’t like how difficult they were to get on and off. That’s not an issue with the adjustable back. I’d say I have medium-sized calves and these fit well. Someone with small calves would be swimming in these though.

I've been researching Hunter boots for what seems like forever and I finally went ahead and bought a pair! They run a half size to a whole size smaller (I normally wear an 8, bought a 7) but fit perfectly. I'm petite with "normal" calves as I like to call them so I purchased the adjustable so I wouldn't have any trouble taking them off. The buckle and back detail are actually stylish in my opinion so I don't mind it at all! They weren't baggy in the ankle area as I had read before. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and I'm already looking forward to buying Hunter socks for them! Thanks, Zappos!

My main concern when looking for rain boots was finding something that would be comfortable around my calves. They measure 15" at the widest and I normally do have trouble finding high boots that aren't too tight. After much research between these and the Huntress, I decided to go with these since I also wanted something that was slimmer at the ankles. They are great! I normally wear an 8.5 shoe, so I sized down to the 8. They fit perfectly around the widest part of my calves and I have the gusset open about half way, and there is plenty of room for socks and skinny jeans. They are more comfortable to walk in than I expected, and at 5'5" they hit right about 2" below my knee. The umber color is unique, and while I normally wouldn't have gone for something in this brown-ish color, I really like it.

I completely agree with other reviewers - these are a great rain boot for gals with larger calves. The best part is the extra space is at the largest part of the calf but not large at the ankle. I too have smaller ankles but athletic calves and wide calf boots typically look too big and sloppy because they are wider all the way up. I did not find these on the large size and actually have to return the size 7 is got as I can't wear with socks. Have already ordered the 8. Don't hesitate - they are so cute!

Wanting hunter boots for a long time, but they didn’t fit my calf. Since these are adjustable, I finally found some I can wear. However, I do wish they made them slightly more adjustable down at your calf further.

I really loved the look of these boots. Unfortunately they were too big. I wear a size 6 and I had an extra inch in the toe box. I tried the kid size too, but they were too tight in the calf.

I spent years lusting after wellies and lots of frustration over the fact that a lot of "wide calf" boots were only 16" when my calves are 16.5" and they refuse to shrink no matter what. I tried my luck with the original talls but they ended up being too narrow. I was wary of the huntress because they look like the fell pretty short which would make me look stumpy. These are great! If I left the band wide open there is way more than 17". Because they fall right below my knee I don't know if I could get skinny jeans in there but definitely yoga pants/tights and wellie socks. They bow by the ankles a bit (not that noticeable) and are a little lacking in arch support, but nothing thick socks or inserts can't fix. Size down, I'm a 9-10 and I almost need an 8, my heel pops up a little bit with thinner socks.

I have fairly muscular calves from running and horseback riding, so it’s difficult to find boots that fit me. I normally wear size 9 1/2 in regular shoes, and these fit perfect with room for the matching socks!

They are a bit hard to get on and off but of course, they are one piece to keep out the wet. I love wearing them to walk the dog because I can walk through puddles and me feet stay dry. They can be cold, so wear warm socks and leggings. Also quite tight on heel.

Okay, they do run big! I ordered the adjustable backs size 10, because I didn't like the look of the huntress boot. I expected these not to fit. My calf is 17.5 inches and I weigh 270! I've been losing weight and knew these wouldn't fit but wanted them as goal shoes. They not only fit, they were too big! Lol. Big in the foot and around the ankle. I still love them though. I'm ordering a 9 to see which I keep. The adjustable back shoes open very wide.

I wanted to love these but my calves are quite wide and don't narrow down as quickly as these boots do so getting them on and off when trying them on was a hassle. Also it weirdly got bunched around my ankle area because of the narrowing too fast in the calf region. The foot part itself was super comfy and I'm really sad that I have to return these because they just aren't made quite right for people who have thicker lower legs.

These boots are gorgeous. I ordered these and a glossy finish since I needed the adjustable back for my calves. I actually liked the look of these a little more than the glossy, but kept the glossy for two reasons: 1. They were on sale; and 2. the matte felt just a LITTLE small whereas the gloss felt more true to size. I am a women's 9.5 - 10 depending on the brand, and ordered both in the 10. With the gloss I had a little extra room at the end for an insert or thick socks, whereas the matte my big toe was just touching the end of the boot. That said, I don't think you can go wrong with these and as always, Zappos customer service is OUTSTANDING.

These boots are beauts! The gloss is very pretty and you simply cannot beat the sale price. I haven't worn them out in the rain yet, but they are surprisingly comfortable for a rain boot. The gusset in the back ensures that calves fit in with room to spare for pants. These feel slightly more true to size than the matte version. As always, Zappos customer service is perfection!

These fit like a glove. I love them!

I have had these boots for 6 years now and they are still as fantastic as when I first got them. They are warm enough for using when it is chilly with a pair of knee high socks and skinny jeans, but also can be used in the summer without getting overly hot. My single complaint is that when I wear them as a regular boot during the day, they can be a little uncomfortable if I cross my legs because of the adjustment buckle in the back. And they always look fantastic. Overall, a great boot for the money: functional and stylish.

The adjustable strap is Ku d of a pain but if you have big calves you have no choice!
