So this year I was determined to finding a jacket that would withstand Toronto's crazy winters. After debating between TNA's Bancroft jacket (which I initially bought and returned) and Northface's lime green hooded jacket, the lime green took my heart. I am 5'9 and 145 pounds and I left with a small. I've found that winter jackets stretch and once again I was proven right so I'm happy with my choice. The jacket features are great, the pockets are well positioned and getting into them just needs a bit of getting used to. The jacket is very structured because of it's material. The hood actually stays on and wind stays out even when you turn your head. When driving, I really need to pat down my hood and unzip my jacket because of blind spot checks. The jacket tends to get in the way. The magnets also did get in the way when zipping up the jacket but I have gotten used to it now and have a good strategy. Also don't have a big bum but the bottom magnet always unclips when in sit down. But all in all, the jacket is WARM! WINDPROOF and WATERPROOF so it does its claimed job. Water is shaken off and don't feel a bit of wind or cold anywhere that the jacket is covering.
To sum it all up, this jacket needs to be given a chance cause it does take a bit of getting used to as you are breaking it in. But you will not be disappointed in the end!
Plus I always get comments now on the lime green lining. People are loving it.

I love this coat. It's heavy (as in great for the winter), but still fits the silhouette nicely. The only thing that I was disappointed about was the hood. The online picture shows the black coat with black fur, but apparently the black coat only comes with beige-looking fur. Other than that, I'm prepared for the snow!

I decided I wanted a green, non-quilted parka and so I trekked to the North Face store to try on three parkas: the Tremaya, the Arctic, and Far Northern Waterproof (no longer sold at Zappos).
The Tremaya was clearly the most heavy duty. If you live in a serious climate like Chicago or Canada, this coat is the warmest North Face you can buy. But I live in NYC which is more mild and I found this coat to be really uncomfortable to wear. I'm not sure if it was just the weight of it or the cut, but I wore it the store for a few minutes and I couldn't wait to take it off. Like other reviewer's, I found it to run very small. I usually wear a 0 or 2 and needed a S in this jacket to feel remotely comfortable.

Was convinced by a retailer of The Northface products to purchase this parka over another The Northface jacket because it is much warmer in temps below -10c whereas the one I had picked out initially wasn't. Being in southern Ontario where windchills can reach -20c to -40c, I needed a warm full length jacket. I wanted one that was both stylish yet functional and practical for our damp cold winters. This jacket worked well in the rain, and in temps up to -10 I felt warm and dry. It is a bit restrictive in the arms(I am 5'6 160lbs, curvy but fit and well proportioned so went with a large) but not so much so that you can't function. However, I wore the jacket today(Jan 6) where windchills reached -23c. Even with a long sleeve shirt and sweatshirt, a scarf, hat and the hood pulled up, jacket zipped to the chin, I still felt chilled. It is if there isn't enough insulation in the arms or shoulders. The jacket blocked the bitter wind but it felt cold on my shoulders, arms and upper back, like my body was pressed up against a cold window and the cold was seeping through the material. I am afraid I will have to exchange this jacket for a different one that is fit for our cold Canadian winters. In sad because it is a beautiful jacket.

I returned the item and got the thermoball long coat. Much easier to move around in and it fits.

This coat is very warm and stylish, I love the fit and style, but few things bothering me: It's haeavy and restrict the movements, the collar is high and stiff, for petite people with short neck, I found it very uncomfortable, because the collar and the the magnet in there keep hitting my chin. The other issue is the opening of the hand pockets which are too small and not easy to put your hands in.

It was a return for me. I am 5'4 and 110 lbs. I usually wear XS. But this coat's XS is really tight on the chest. I don't see myself wearing layers underneath. The collar is not high enough. I could feel wind coming in through this wide collar. But it does look really stylish, the magnet is really convenient and it was very warm when I tried it on.

I bought this for a season of working in Mammoth Lakes, California. For the
price of this coat, I thought I had all the bases covered. Was very disappointed at how it underperformed and did not keep
me warm. The best feature is the waterproof exterior. The 550 fill power of the is where this coat lags.

I wanted to love this but the hood was seriously ill-fitting: it was huge and flopped over my head, partially covering my eyes and yet didn't cover ears or actually keep my head warm. The hood is full adjustable -- and I adjusted it -- but there was so much hood there, and it was so stiff, that it looked wonky and still didn't quite fit right. It's unfortunate because I did love the warmth of the coat and, though puffy, it wasn't unflattering or too boxy.

I have narrow shoulders, but am busty and so I got stuck between 2 sizes. The medium fit well in an evening gown kind of way, and my mobility was restricted. The large made me look totally awful, the shoulders were huge and made my chest look like it was sitting on my waist. I fit into most clothes fairly well give or take but this was not the case. The fitted quality also means the feathers can't breathe if you've got curves....or you buy an oversized coat and so what's the point of tailored if you look horrible.

This coat is warm, but there are several things I don't like about it: the pockets are not easy to get your hands into; the magnets are too strong and close over my face if I don't have a scarf on as well as stick to things like gym lockers; the hood unzips itself while I'm wearing it; and it's too bulky and not particularly flattering from the side as there's a weird bulge just below the waist. I think if had tried it on in the store rather than ordering it online, I wouldn't have purchased it.

overall GREAT coat but disappointed with the fit as the coat runs small, but the most disappointing was the neon lining which was so obnoxious I couldnt bare to reorder in a bigger size. The neon will make the coat dated very quickly - the coat which should last for years.

Dawn11 is spot on. This jacket does run small in the shoulders. I do not consider myself large or overweight. I am 5'7" and weigh 145 lbs. I am not big chested but this jacket was very uncomfortable in the shoulders - it is too narrow. Also the pocket opening is too small. The magnet are too strong and will close when you are trying to work the zipper, but I think I could get accustom to this. I loved the pull over mitten in the sleeve. I am considering whether it is worth the whole process again to try an extra large or if the jacket would be too big in every other area than the shoulders.

Review for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I was really disappointed with this coat. I usually wear a size 2 or 4 in clothing and ordered a small. Once the side tabs were loosened, the body fit ok, but not much room for layers underneath. The torso also was cut too long. The shoulders were cut very small, though not as small as the Marmot Clarehall jacket. It was difficult to move my arms and uncomfortable to lift my arms. The two most annoying parts, however, were the neck, which came up way too high and kept hitting me in the nose, and the magnetic buttons, which made it impossible to unzip and kept closing when I didn't want them too. I had high hopes for this coat, but had to send it back.

I wear this coat to commute in Chicago and it doesn't keep me warm. Sleeves have enough insulation but I can feel the cold through the back. Coat is cut too narrow to layer up very much. Side tabs dont have elastic. And then there are the magnets instead of snaps on the front zipper storm flap! Because of the magnets, the coat sticks to handrails, the train seat, my locker at work, the oven...you quickly find out where the steel is in your life . The magnets are covered with thin fabric that already is showing wear.

Wanted to love this coat after researching online for several days - but the fit is strange. I'm 6'0" with a slight frame. The shoulders were tight, sleeves short, and the rest of the coat was kind of boxy. It's heavy and seems very warm which is what I'm looking for but will search in the stores as opposed to trying to find the right fit online.

Loved the look and style but this coat is way too heavy and runs small. The arms were tight with just a short sleeved t-shirt.

I got one and there is no insulation in the arms. Especially at the elbows, it was very cold. The bottom is too wide, too much air is coming up underneath me.I t's not a warm coat, I've had warmer. It's too bad because I liked the outer lining instead of a puffer style that I've had in the past. The pockets are hard to get into.

This is a nice-looking coat and I really need a warm coat for walking to and from the bus stop and work. Unfortunately, this one isn't it. Boy, was this coat small on me. I am 5'8" and 140 lbs. and the "fit guide" on the site - the one where you enter your height and weight - said I should order a Small. I ordered a Medium to play it safe, since I am tallish and have long arms. OMG! It is tight across my back, shoulders and under the arms and I can really feel it if I lift my arms. I could barely get it zipped and when I did, it was tight all the way around (I am not particularly "busty" - 34C - and am smallish-waisted - 26"-27". I don't have much of a tummy. Hips on the wide side - 40"). I could just be strangely configured, or maybe I received a mis-labeled coat (I actually checked the label to be sure it was a Medium, and it does say "M"), but any coat I've ever worn in a Medium has always given me plenty of room to spare. (I tried this on wearing a pair of sweats and a T-Shirt). Also, this coat is not as long on me as it shows on the model - it comes - charitably - to mid-thigh on me. Also, beware of the magnetized snaps that cover the zipper. This is a nice idea in theory, but when you are trying to unbutton the snaps or work the zipper, the snaps you have unbuttoned button again by themselves - these are some strong magnets, LOL! I am giving this coat two stars because the material and workmanship seem to be of good quality, but those are worthless to me because the coat doesn't fit. Anyway, I hope one of you ladies out there will enjoy this coat when I send it back - it is actually a nice coat for the right body!

The magnets are poorly attached and fall inside the jacket. They fell after 3 months of light use.
The North Face customer service has been absolutely useless about this problem that is clearly a manufacturing defect. Result, the jacket has been sitting in the wardrobe for nearly 3 years now.

I had high hopes for this product but could not love. The zipper is very poor quality and nearly broke right off. The fit is strange. I am 5'10'' usually a Med and had to go to XL to get a proper fit in shoulders and arms. I would not be able to add layers in cold weather. I looked like a marshmallow - very unflattering. I have Northface jacket from 8 years ago and had high hopes, but quality had seriously gone downhill. Especially for the highest priced jacket available.
Disappointed,

I'm 5 foot 5, and 144 pounds. In order for a coat to be bit fitted but not shoulder blade tight, I would normally go to a large, so that there is a bit of extra room in the stomach area for a light sweater if needed. The large in this coat was too tight in the stomach area but the shoulder and bust were too big, so that an x large would have been hanging in all the wrong places. They need to keep the style of it but let the waist out a bit. A slim person would have no problem with this coat. Just for the records, I did try an older version of this coat put out last year called the Shavanah, which looks exactly the same as this one, but the fit of the waist and bust were far more proportional to each other. I sent it back due to the fact that the hood was attached by buttons and not a zipper which I felt affected wind leaks. I wish they would bring the same coat back again but just add a zipper hood, which seems to be the only advantage of the Tremaya coat-they added a zippered hood but in my opinion created the waist for someone with a 20 inch waist! After two attempts with two different jackets I've decided to pay a few more hundred dollars and go with another company. Such a shame-I'd love to come back to North Face in future if the coat fits better.
