Wonderful all rounder. Warmer than I was expecting given its weight. The water beads and rubs right off. Whether hitting the city streets or hiking trails this is my new go to piece in winter/spring weather.

I have a women's Atom LT, what I have hated from the beginning is how much extra material I have just below waist level at hip height. I also wanted a warmer jacket that wasn't down. I'm finding that this is my go to jacket every time I walk out the door. I'm 5 feet about 130 and 40 inched at the fullest part of my chest. The men's small fits me perfectly.

I have worn this jacket nearly every day since I got it in Sept. It is very versatile: it works well as an outer layer in warmer weather and as a mid-layer under a wind shell or under my Gore-tex in colder, rainy conditions. It breathes well for uphill hiking or cycling in cooler conditions. I wore it for 6 weeks straight on my fall climbing trip and often climbed in it. I never felt that my movement on the rock was restricted by the jacket and the breathability ensured that I wasn't overheating.
It has held up well to a lot of abuse on the rocknand didn't even look that dirty after weeks in the desert. Sadly my dog ripped it a few weeks ago. I put a patch on the tear but unfortunately the see-through patch is quite obvious on the proton fabric.
The sunhaven colour is amazing. I am usually between a small and medium in Arc'teryx jackets and went with a small. I can still wear another layer underneath, but it is also snug enough for climbing in. The fabric stretches more than the atom line.

If you have never owned Arc'teryx you can't understand how there are so many little perfections engineered into the product that unassumingly wrap you in luxury. The way it fits, the way it lets you move freely without even knowing you have it on, the way the sleeves lay on your wrist, the way it effortlessly gives you everything you ever wanted from a jacket! This is one brand whose value truly makes it a bargain!

I hesitate every time I go outside because of how light the jacket is but the once in the cold I am so grateful for this jacket. It's so light my movement is not compromised. I am never hot or cold and at times I even wear at the house forgetting I have it on bc it's so light. When it's rains no problem. When you get caught in a windy situation in NYC waiting for the train or just walking down the street no problem. It's so low key and unassuming. I love it. The logo is also lo key that it does bother me. The material is premium. Yes, it's a bit expensive but it's worth every penny. If they had a children version of this jacket I would buy it for my daughter.

Just got my AR Hoodie and took it to Breckenridge, CO for some resort snowboarding. Day started out at 12 degrees farenheit, pared with a 3L Gore-tex pro shell and a Capilene thermal base layer I was comfortable all day! The AR kept the cold out and let all my excess body heat escape. Never too hot and never cold! When you put the jacket on it's like wearing air! It's super comfortable and lightweight. The jacket does not restrict movement at all, reaching in all directions it's fit is perfect. Perfect mid-layer on cold days and an awesome stand alone jacket running around town on colder days. Wore it today running around Denver, CO at 40 degrees and was comfortable!

I've been using the Atom AR for a few years now and it is easily the best lightweight jacket I have ever experienced in my entire life. Like a lot of people here, I bought the Atom LT first before exchanging it for the warmer AR, since the price difference is negligible for the amount of warmth gained.
With that said, this jacket has been warm enough to wear down to -30C with only a regular weight hoodie underneath. This shocked me as it doesn't even have natural down, yet is warmer than most of my down jackets. I have never been too hot wearing this jacket or too cold. The thermal regulation is exceptional.
I also have the Firebee AR Parka, which is amazing in its own sense, but I constantly find myself picking the Atom AR over the Firebee AR simply due to the warmth it provides in such a small package.
Quality on this jacket is as expected from Arc'teryx, incredible. My jacket is 3 years old and still looks brand new.
The fit is also the best on any jacket I have ever tried, and the way that the sleeves are cut is incredible. You can move your arms however you want, and the jacket will move with you without lifting or shifting. I'm 6'3 and 180lbs and the large fits perfectly.
One of the best purchases I have ever made, and I'm sure it will last a long time.

This is such a nice jacket, light, warm and fit, wonderful for any cold winter days in south China and Taiwan. Just want to ask when did you install" No Slip Zip"in this product? My 2015 Atom Ar did not have it.
And I wanted to buy 5 msize men black for my relatives, and you Taiwan and HongKong stores all run out of stock for many days, your stock management is really bad.

I work around the world. In a multitude of environments. At times it's 130F then at night it's freezing. The Atom LT has always been my go to jacket (2010-2011) was my original purchase. I still have it. I then bought an LT with the hoodie. I wanted the Atom AR for that slightly heavier jacket. But not so heavyweight that it's bulky. I still want to pack light. I work in this jacket with different outer waist belts, protective vest, etc. I cannot say enough about the Atom series. I have Arcteryx pants for their breathability as the jacket. Customer service has always been FAIR don't expect to use it then return it if abused. I've called and ASKED for patches, for small tears. I have always received what I asked for, for free. Because I was honest on how I abused the garment. I am an Arcteryx fan, and as long as they continue with the quality I will continue to purchase their products!
Thankful,

Perfect fit. I wear the jacket under my shell on colder days or on not so cold days I wear alone.
Love the colour. Arcteryx jackets may be more expensive but it is worth the money you spend.
I own 3 jackets and 1 waterproof shell

I live in Squamish BC; temperature at sea level average out around -5c to 5c in winter. Not terribly windy in winter but rain almost everyday. Spring and fall average around 0c to 10c and very windy. I operate between sea level and 1200 feet(360 meters)
Reason why I Purchased the Atom AR:
I already own the Atom LT and it is an essential piece of kit for anyone who want a light mid layer that can be used under a soft or hard shell in temperature above freezing temperature. The Atom AR is my "go to" for anything below freezing. A great mid layer with all the benefits the LT version offers but better suited to wear under a hard shell like my Beta AR.
You can wear the Atom AR as a stand alone or over and under your soft shell while at rest but best suited over your soft shell because you may get too warm under a tigher soft shell. It packs fairly well and light but takes a bit of room in a pack.
The hood is great! Fits nicely and gives you a real sense of protection against the weather. I find it a bit too small to wear over a helmet though.
One thing I would add in its manufacturing would be to add a loop on the sleeve so it can be hung outisde a back pack.

I bought this coat because I needed something that wouldn't be too cumbersome but would keep me warm. I live in Southern California, and the winters here aren't quite what they were when I lived in New England. On cold mornings when I have just woken up and need to take the dog for a walk, this jacket is warm enough to throw over a t-shirt. It operates super well in 40/50-degree weather when a sweater just won't cut it.
I plan on getting a lighter Atom LT or SV jacket for other seasons. And for when I revisit New England, I plan on buying a waterproof shell to go over my Atom AR. As a multi-layer system with a merino base layer, I can't imagine not being warm enough in 0-degree temps.
If you need a coat to walk the dog in, use as a mid-layer in the snow, or have as a companion on chilly morning commutes, this jacket rocks. It's a little too bulky for athletic endeavors, so I'd recommend the Atom LT for hiking and snowshoeing.
Side notes: I love the insulated hood. The different cinch points around the jacket allow a better fit if needed. That stretchy piece of material on the cuffs makes the wrists comfortable without letting air into the sleeves.

I've never had an Arc'teryx jacket before, so when this showed up, I was surprised--and a little worried--about how lightweight it is. Would it still be warm enough? Good news: it is! It's also water-repellant and attractive--the color and cut are appealing as well. Someone cited a concern about the size of the pockets as compared to an average phone, and it's true they're a little small, but I haven't had any real problems in that realm. Also, I like that the cuffs are snug around the wrists, so you can get your gloves under them and really feel fully secured against the cold. My lone complaint is that the zipper slips down a little easily if you're wearing a scarf under the coat, but I can work with it anyway. Very happy with this investment!

Originally purchased the "LT" version but decided it wasn't thick enough so sent it back and purchased this one instead. Customer service was fantastic, refund for original was received promptly and correspondence was exactly what i wanted. A proper customer experience and well worth the price tag.

I purchased the Atom AR to test it as an outer layer in cold conditions and it has amazed me, not only keeps you super warm but it is also super comfortable and wind cutting. It's the best jacket I've ever owned and would definitely recommend it. Size is very true, I'm 1.92mts and since I'm layering inside I ordered the XL which fits just perfect. It also repels water a bit longer than expected so that makes it even better. I would say it is a peace of high technology and design from Arc'teryx.
*Note: I just ordered the Atom LT for less cold days :D

The Atom AR is one of those pieces that truly allows you to understand what Arc'teryx means when they say All Round. This heavy mid-layer/comfy shell works well in every scenario. I have put it through its paces on backpacking trips, walking the dog, heading downtown for a bite and a beer and just about every other task I can think of. It really is a wonderful expansion of the LT variant that retains many of the quality features we have all come to love. Where it loses out to the LT in mobility and breathability it more than makes up for with warmth, packing double the coreloft insulation in the core. The removal of the composite mapping side panels in favor of the Tyono 30 and extra insulation makes this incredibly warm for its weight. Keep in mind, if you are weighing the two, that you could overheat under high exertion in warmer weather with the AR but will not feel the cold creep through the sides while resting or at basecamp. It packs down well and has a durable face fabric that I appreciate when in the backcountry. The DWR is effective in all but stormy conditions and when layered under a shell (I prefer my Zeta over-top) the temperature range is incredible. The pockets have a super soft fleece liner that feels great against the hand and both waist and hood drawcords are simple, light and effective. This is an awesome piece for colder weather and I highly recommend it, A+
