I have been looking for a convertible backpack / luggage for years since my Pangea was discontinued. I bought a Lands End a couple years back - it was sleek and worked ok even though it didn't have enough inside pockets. After the zipper burst, my hunt was back on.
I ordered the Patagonia MLC and the Campmor Essential Carryon but the former was really small and the latter was really low on well, everything.
The Wingman is a lot roomier than I thought it would be (the top zipper has a clamshell effect that's deceiving lc forgiving) and pretty bulletproof. It's pretty styling for business as well as casual travel. I wish there were two compartments inside but that's not the way the design works.
I'm enjoying the Wingman so far - especially at the price I got it for w the discontinued color - and I'm glad to be done w the luggage search for now.

I have used this for short business trips and week long vacations to tropical destinations. The ability to change from a messenger style to and backpack is invaluable. I loved this bag so much and so did my father, that I got him one for a gift.

The quality is really great; and at a great price, they don't overcharge, it really does make me want to get more. They have earned a loyal customer, I didn't have a luggage brand until now, but now I do.

I was a little skeptical of using this as a carry on bag for traveling for more than few days, but after a recent trip to Philly for 7 days, I am a skeptic no longer. I was able to pack workout clothes and running shoes, a pair of Sperrys, my cosmetics and more than enough clothes. It was tight, but I was able to get in everything I wanted. Keep in mind that you might have to be a smart packer to make this bag work, mainly wearing your bulkiest shoes and jacket, etc. I loved having the option of messenger bag strap or the backpack straps. Both were very comfortable and I think I prefer the backpack straps. Icing on the cake is the outside pockets allowing easy access to stuff you want in the airport (Ipad, earphones, wallet). I am a huge fan of this bag!

This is a great bag for a 2 day trip, any more than 2 days and the bag is too small, but I am likely to check a bag at that point anyway. This bag is perfect for the short carry-on only trip and I get compliments from airline attendants on the design.

A great short-term travel bag that we used right out of the box for a weekend getaway! Fit everything for two perfectly! Another awesome Timbuk2 bag.

I use this bag as my briefcase for work documents and as my gym bag after work. In the mornings I used the shoulder-straps for my commute into my office and leave the gym using the bag like a book bag. These two features are what attracted me to the bag.

Definitely one of the best bags for flying. Just small enough to be a carry-on, but big enough to carry enough clothes and books and a laptop. Side pocket fits passports, paperwork and cell phone perfectly. Most of all, the backpack straps make navigating through the airport (security, specifically) a breeze. An amazing investment for avid travelers

I had a trip planned that was 6 weeks in length combining international and domestic travel. I knew I wanted a bag that was the size of a carry on, but I also knew that I'd be trekking over cobble stoned streets and in subways, so I also knew that I didn't want to rely on a wheeled bag. Because this transitions from backpack to shoulder bag, I could have my hands free while I drank a coffee, looked for my passport, or read a map.
My favorite features of this bag:
Packing is incredibly simple because it opens like a regular suitcase- you can grab whatever item you need without digging through everything like you would with a traditional backpack.
Handles everywhere make stowing and grabbing this bag a cinch.
Design: stylish and durable. I received compliments regularly, and the zippers are all holding up quite nicely, even with my pulling and tugging on them to fit my things and a few extra trinkets I picked up along the way.
The only thing that I didn't absolutely love were the backpack straps (though they were still manageable). They were fine for a short walk, but after about 10-15 minutes they became a little uncomfortable. Adding a waist strap, or extra padding to the straps would be highly beneficial. That said, my bag was fairly heavy. For someone a bit more adept at packing light, I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue at all.

I have been eyeing this bag for a long time. When I finally bought it I used it 4 times within the first month for short business trips. This is a great carry-on bag (North American flights but not international). The backpack straps are extremely helpful as the bag can get heavy when it is fully packed.

So far, I have used my Wingman for intercontinental travel. I was looking for something with the versatility of a backpack and duffel/carry-on bag. While still relatively new, I do love this bag. Hopefully, it will sustain its' integrity over time. Thank you Timbuk2!

I date back to the day when we carried our luggage and this just looks strong sitting on the floor, looks good on my shoulder, and at my side when I carry it in my hand. And everyone comments on how great it looks in the truck next to their "rollers".

This bag lets you grab and go in any situation during your trip. You will be the fastest out of the plane and the fastest to security. Carrying a backpack-like bag will just make you faster through the airport and in the plane!

I bought this particular carry on bag because my old duffel bag (which came with a cologne package I bought a decade ago) finally threw in the towel.
I liked the look of the bag, the number of pockets, and the multiple ways you can carry it around (i.e. backpack, messenger etc). The pockets for your computer or other gadgets are extremely convenient. You won't have to rummage through your clothes or anything since these pockets are easily accessible. The straps included in the main pocket make it extremely easy to pack much more than you actually need. I was able to pack for a two night stay in Busan with two adult size animal onesies for an epic bar crawl and I still had room for at least another two nights worth of clothing.
Wearing it as a backpack was my preferred method for getting around the city. Because I packed so much, the weight of the bag made it a little tiring to walk around for more than a few hours. Nothing a short break at a cafe couldn't fix.
In conclusion, a great carry on. I'm very pleased with the bag and can't wait to use it on my next adventure to China for a very long layover and my eventual return to Westeros.

This bag is the ultimate package deal for getting the most out of a bag that has multiple functions. It can be a duffle bag or backpack and can be carried on and stored in overhead storage or checked. It can hold enough for a week trip (if you're not into traveling with the kitchen sink), but can also be packed lightly and thrown on your back for a weekend getaway. I have zero complaints and would recommend this bag for traveling when you are a one-bag kind of travler. It's perfect! PSL I'm a picky guy.

I had been admiring this product on the Timbuk2 website for about six months before I finally made my purchase. I wish I would have purchased the bag sooner. I have used it for 4 business trips over the last month (varying between 2-6 days) both domestically and internationally. The bag is roomy enough to carry all that I needed (including my laptop) for of those trips. The bag even fit in the overhead compartment of a small regional jet. The pocket accessibility allowed me to breeze through security without fumbling for my toiletry bag or laptop. My only complaint is that it is hard for me to use the crossbody strap as I am relatively short (5'4"). As a result, I have been mostly using the backpack straps, which is not a deal breaker for me. Thank you to the team at Timbuk2 for designing this fantastic product.

I packed my Wingman to near capacity, and sometimes forgot it was on my back! Really love the options for backpack, shoulder strap or hand carry with any of the handles. Any the tweed like fabric and design made mine a standout in the sea of black bags everywhere on the tarmac carts when I couldn't carry on inside smaller planes.

Looks are deceiving... this carry-on bag looks like it won't fit as much as a rolling luggage bag but it does -- if not more. If you need to, use the compression straps and then cram rolled up t-shirts into the corners.
Good thing this bag has convertible backpack straps! They worked in a pinch but, unfortunately, the straps cut into my neck if I wasn't wearing a high-neck shirt/jacket.
Alternatively, if you're just going for a weekend and don't need to pack as much, the bag works very well as an over-the-shoulder bag and easily goes into airplane overhead compartments or slides under the seat.
The layout of the bag compartments and zippers were very thoughtful. I enjoyed that it only had one main compartment that was very roomy and a secondary (but collapsible) shoe compartment, plus 3 smaller pockets. Some bags have TOO many pockets -- simplicity is a good thing, folks.
The only thing I wish that it had was a loop to go over the telescoping handles of rolling luggage -- but since the Wingman had handles on every side, this isn't a deal breaker.

I got this bag so I could be more nimble while doing a lot of business trips, conferences, etc. It fulfilled the need perfectly. It's much lighter than a rolling bag, and being able to carry it on my back makes it a lot easier to move around, switch locations often, etc. I love it. It also fits just as much as a rolling bag and is a little bit more forgiving because it's soft, so you can shove that last jacket in there that you thought you couldn't. Awesome.

For my company I regularly travel from Atlanta to South Florida once a month or every couple of months and this bag has made a difference. The shoulder straps and versitility of the pockets made going through security and getting to my gate very easy. I packed it full of clothes, magazines, a macbook, an ipad, and some other random items and it fit easily in the overhead bin. Getting on and off the plane is a nonevent with this thing.

I purchased this bag to have a more compact, lighter alternative to traditional roller bags. I'm very pleased with the purchase so far for the following reasons:
- It fits in small regional jet overheads, so you can avoid gate checking.
- The computer pocket is practical and accessible. I use a 13" macbook pro retina with a sleeve. I leave the sleeve in there for a little extra protection.
- The shoe storage is big enough for running shoes plus a few extras like a charger.
- The main pocket is very accessible and allows you to stash toiletries for easy access.
- The backpack is very comfortable and useful for longer hauls, but I mostly use the shoulder strap worn messenger style over the body.
- The bag looks great and has excellent materials and build quality.
This will be my go to bag for most short trips at this point. It accommodated 4-5 changes of clothing with some running gear in a recent trip to NYC and was still light enough to not be burdensome. And it *still* fit in the small overhead!

I ordered this because I love to travel but HATE to check luggage. I took it on its first run over an 8-day New Year's holiday and I absolutely love it. My sister battled a giant suitcase the whole time; I whipped out the backpack straps and sailed right along. It carried everything I needed plus the extra things I bought on vacation. And when I did check it on the way home, it got lost (of course) and showed up in great condition, no worse for the TSA wear. It's exactly what I was looking for in a bag: attractive, tough, infinite room (it expands a little bit and always seems to have just enough space for that ONE MORE THING), easy to carry. If it ever wears out, I'm getting another.

I love this bag! Picked it up for a recent trip to Asia; packed a week's worth of cold weather clothing no problem (important to pack in layers!) and even had room for a few early Christmas gifts for family. On a full flight, everyone's roller boards and large bags were being gate checked but I breezed right through as my bag fit perfectly into the sizer. The large main pocket means that packing cubes definitely come in handy, though I imagine that the internal compression straps would be helpful as well. Front pockets made it easy for me to store electronics, wallet, passport etc within easy reach and handles on all sides meant lots of spots to hook my water bottle's carabiner up to. On top of that, I could see myself using this as a briefcase for business travel - it looks that good!
