Me again, coming back to write a second review because Zappos doesn't permit review edits. Still loving the comfort and style, but today I took a lower-body selfie wearing these boots, to show off a handknit skirt. I hadn't quite grasped that they have big, pale, contrasty, rectangular Pikolinos logos right at the top of the tongue. Not bad if you're wearing pants, but I wasn't, and it wasn't until I edited the photo that this glaring logo became obvious. I've just spent 20 minutes with a very sharp knife carefully cutting the stitches, peeling the leather labels off, and removing the sticky tape that was used to hold them together. Now I have stitch holes in my leather, but at least it's not a gigantic Pikolinos logo. I'll have to scout their products better before buying next time. Note that there is a second logo at the top of the boot opening, towards the ankle. Why do they need to put two logo patches *per boot*? For that matter, why do they need to put any? Presumably the person wearing them already knows they're Pikolinos; nobody else is really likely to get close enough to read the tabs.

I ordered the Le Mans boots in size 42, in the Arcilla and the Olmo colors. The Arcilla boots were gorgeous; when I opened the box, I couldn't wait to try them on. Beautifully made, soft leather, with great attention to detail. Unfortunately, they were too tight length-wise, especially the right foot. However, the Olmo colored boots fit well, almost a little big. I compared the two pairs sole to sole, and the Olmo ones were clearly a bit larger. I really loved the reddish color of the Arcilla ones and was so disappointed that I could not keep them because of the sizing issues. I looked inside each boot -- the Arcilla colored ones were made in Spain, the Olmo ones were made in another country. There should be some standardization by Pikolinos of the sizing in the shoe lasts at different plants for the same style of shoe or boot. I sent both pairs back to Zappos. I would have tried to order another pair of the Arcilla color to take the chance that the next pair was more on the order of the sizing of the Olmo pair (hoping maybe manufactured with the more generous sizing), but Zappos did not have any more size 42 in that color. I have heard in the past that Pikolinos can run small but I have two other pairs of Pikolinos in size 42 that fit well even though the size conversion is 11.5-12; I am a true American size 12 medium. I will try to order Pikolinos in the future but will not get my hopes up that each pair will fit me in size 42.

This is my first pair of Pikolinos and I am in love. These boots are as good looking as they are well-built, and I like that they are reasonably priced. The leather is strong yet supple, the footbed has nice cushioning, the heel has an ideal balance of height and comfort, and the style is classic, versatile, and edgy all at the same time. I have the Arcilla color, which is a nice reddish burgundy. There are also great functional touches, like the strategically placed lace slit in the tongue. Do you hate boot and shoe tongue slippage? That is not a problem with these! As far as sizing goes, I found these boots to run large, and it took me two tries to get the right fit. I normally wear a 6½ or 7, or a European 37, but I needed a size 36 in these and they still have plenty of room for substantial socks. I agree with another reviewer's comments about the brand labels - they seem silly and detract slightly from the classy look of the shoes, but the great aspects far outweighed this minor complaint in my book.

I saw these and loved them, didn't need them and didn't want to spend the price. So, I ordered them anyway (yep) in hope that maybe they were not as cool in person. Wrong! Ridiculously adorable, comfortable/light/super soft, different/cool/funky and worth every penny of the price! Ugh.

I first ordered the Olmo red color, but when it arrived it was a drab, oxblood brown. I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to the sassy red color in the picture. I also took the advice and ordered ½ size down since a number of reviewers thought they ran large. They were too small. So I ordered the Laurel olive/grey a half size up, back to my regular size. The color is really nice, goes with everything, but the sizing is clearly inconsistent with these boots. The half size up gaps a lot in the ankles and has plenty of room for heavy socks. I would have been fine with the smaller size in this color. The boots are super comfortable with additional arch support, and I can wear them all day without any pain. My only complaint is Pikolinos needs to fix their color and size inconsistencies.

These boots are so awesome! They are well worth the high price point - there are so many details that are extremely high quality. The insole is downright plush - surprisingly padded and covered with soft leather. The sole is heavy duty with good traction. I am a true size 7 and bought the 37. It fits well - at first I was nervous that it would be too small because the toe bed is a bit snug, but the length is right. After wearing them for about 5 minutes, the toe bed felt appropriately snug and not uncomfortable - it would most likely stretch with wear. While the toe bed was a bit tight, the heel area and boot shaft are looser than I would expect. Tightening the laces prevents the heel from slipping. Finally, just to mention - I ordered the reddish color and it is much less red in person than on the screen - it's a little more burgundy brownish than red. Overall though they're so dang adorable that I'm more than willing to overlook the slight color disappointment.

I love t his boot. I thought the heel was too loose, but found that tightening the laces helps to keep my foot secure. I think that thicker socks help too. The loose heel isn't bad enough for me to return the boots.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these boots! I get compliments from complete strangers when I wear them. I got them in the brownish red color and am so happy I did. I wear a 10- 10.5 in most shoes but usually an 11 in boots. I need some wiggle room for my toes and room to wear thick socks for cold weather. These feel like a true 11. I have a little more room then I need but a 10 would be too tight. The width feels right. I love the little stitching details and they are definitely well made boots. The heel is a little taller than I'm used to (I live in flat shoes and flip flops) so it's harder to wear these all day. But I suspect I just need to break them in a little more. I wore them right out of the box to an event that I had to stand up for 5 hours and did fine. Highly recommend getting them!

Inconsistent sizing, inconsistent manufacturing. I wear a consistent 36, and own other Pikolinos in this size. I read that this style can run large, so I ordered the Arcilla (red) in 35. I also ordered the Lead. The Arcilla 35 in this boot is EXACTLY the same as the 36 in the ankle/shoe version (838-8657) of the same - comparing sole to sole, there is honestly no difference. The only difference in feel is this boot is slightly more narrow. The biggest difference, though, was in the comparison of the Arcilla to the Lead in the same boot. The Arcilla is much more feminine in cut, with a tighter ankle and calf. The Lead is much wider, probably 2 inches more in circumference. Even comparing the pics back on Zappos, this is visible (I took it for slight change in angle or lacing in the pic, but it's an actual difference in the boots.) The Arcilla is made in Spain and the leather is wonderful. The Lead is made in China and the leather is much thinner and has a smoother, cheaper feel on the inside. Pikolinos has been one of my favorite brands, but that certainly may change if the manufacturing quality is degrading. I would love if Zappos could include info on where the shoes are made, so I could avoid ordering ones I won't keep. In the end, rating is hard. The Arcilla boots are lovely, but the Lead of the same are not as nicely proportioned and they lack the same quality.

I agree with the other reviewers to size down. I wear a 6.5 and got the 36 and there's plenty of room left in the boot without being big (easy to wiggle the toes). Boots are soft and incredibly comfortable. I ordered arcilla and laurel and had a hard time figuring which ones I'd keep. The red ones are more brick red and go with pretty much anything. The laurel looked great with light colored pants/leggings.

These are really cute and good quality, but the 38 does not fit my size 8 feet. What is strange is that I ordered two other pair of tall boots from Pikolino and the size 38 fit great. I would say their sizing is inconsistent. I am going to exchange for a larger size.

Received them a few days ago. I had thought they would be the color pictured but like another reviewer, they were more olive green. Maybe that's what the 'KAKI/OLMO' color is. Not a deal breaker as I'm sure they'll go with everything I would have worn the brown ones with. They had no offensive smell to them, are extremely comfortable right out of the box, are very well made, have little arch support which is OK with me as I can just get my own to my liking as after all...everyone's foot is different! I like the zipper as tying them up would be too difficult for me due to an injury. I just love these boots! They are my first pair of Pikolinos, certainly not my last and I like the company policy, as they state in Zappos ''About the Brand' section: "All the profits made from selling these shoes go towards development projects in the Maasai Mara." How can ya not like that!

Love these boots! My first purchase of this brand and I will definitely purchase again. I almost always wear a European size 37, and I also always size up a half size with boots but I had to exchange the 37's for a size 36 to get the right fit. They were comfortable right out of the box and I did not have a "stinky smell" issue at all. I am extremely happy with this purchase!

I loved the styling on these boots but when I got them was disappointed to find how wide the top of the boot is. It doesn't stay snug against your lower calf and as a result you really can't wear your pants outside of the boot because the boot pushes your pants out in a noticeable way. Disappointing because they were very comfortable, but I had to return them because of this.

Stinky! I had purchased a pair of Pikolinos from Zappos a few weeks ago (my first pair) but returned them due to the style. They smelled like Ben-Gay or some other cheap menthol ointment. I then ordered these boots in the red, the Kaki and the brown, because I wasn't sure what I'd like best. And all three of them stink like menthol! I'm keeping the red pair because it's a great color and style, but they're going to have to air outside for a day or two before I'll wear them. I refuse to go out in public smelling like this. And Pikolinos as a brand is probably off my list now. I'd assumed the first pair had been returned by a Ben-Gay-loving customer, but it appears Pikolinos treats all their products with this horrible scent.

I loved the boot. The quality and style were great. Unfortunately, I had to order the boot in size 41 (a girl can hope) as I have never tried this brand before. Sadly, the boot wasn't available in a larger size. I have to return the boot but will keep my eye on it in case it appears in a 42 or 43.

Just a gorgeous, fun boot that was everything I expected. Even though side zip you can loosen laces to make the top wider. Wore yesterday and got tons of compliments.

One of the most comfortable boots I've owned with a roomy round toe, adjustable laces, easy on and off zip, and the softest leather requiring no break-in period. The traction is good too and the fit is supportive but chic, making this a perfect travel boot. I wear it year round in all weather with dresses, leggings, and trousers. I love the lead color (dark saddle brown - the Zappos photo is too dark) and two-tone details. I usually wear a 7 with tights or 7 1/2 with a wool sock and 38 fit well. Since my first pair was starting to wear out after 2 years of heavy use, I ordered a second from Zappos. I was accidentally sent the red color, but Zappos is replacing it immediately without a second charge. I hope this boot is never discontinued.
