As usual I need to go a size up to compensate for the width. I have wide feet but not that wide just not narrow. Seems these hikers are narrow at the box just where the laces end toward the toe. I cannot "break in" shoes they either fit or they do not and although I like them I have to return them. The 11 just didn;t compensate for the width. It was a little big in the heel part and my foot slides up. Hopefully China will realize we are not all created equal. I'm returning these and trying a didn't brand and style. I need a hiking boot/shoe!

This pair feels a little stiffer and heavier than I would like. (1/2 size larger than normal was a good choice though.) I have several pairs of Ahnu that I love, so I am disappointed with the feel of this pair. Also I am sorry that I will be returning them and ordering my second choice of waterproof shoes. Thanks, though, for your great service Zappos!

I was looking to replace my waterproof trail running shoes with a different brand. These Ahnus got good reviews, and I liked the color. I ordered my usual size, but they were too short, and the heels too wide. I gave them to my daughter, who wears a smaller size, and she's happy with them.

These shoes are great. I bought them for a trip to rainy Iceland and wore them regularly during that week, including on a day-long hike where I had to walk through boggy, wet ground, streams and snow. My feet stayed perfectly dry then, and when I wore them in pouring rain. They didn't require breaking in, though they did get less stiff and more comfortable after I wore them a couple of days. They are very lightweight and the support is good, though adding a Superfeet insole made them a lot more comfortable. I wear a 9 1/2 in tennis shoes and the 9 1/2 was the right size for me in this shoe. I thought the wineskin color would be a richer, redder color than it turned out to be - it is quite purple, and I might have gotten a different color if I'd seen them in person before I purchased. I will get a lot of multi-season use out of these high-quality, sturdy shoes and am very glad I purchased them!

I bought these because I needed a waterproof shoe which would fit my somewhat wide feet in the way the Sugarpine AirMesh do. Unfortunately, they do not - the waterproof membrane appears to keep this shoe much snugger. They are relatively attractive and waterproof, just not good for a wide foot.

Everything about this shoe screamed keep me, but in the end the tongue of the shoe bugged the top of my foot bad enough [folding and crimping up] to give in a return them. They are pretty cozy and look good but in the end another pair beat them out for all around comfort.

these were too tight in the toe box, i have a wide foot. will return them, unfortunately a larger size would probably be too long. but nice shoe!

For those who suffer from lateral foot pain, beware. Even with the insole removed, this shoe has raised edges on the footbed that can cause pain on the side of the foot. The footbed is similar to Merrill (I can't wear them either) and sometimes Keens. But I have feet that require a fairly flat footbed all around except at the arch, where I need moderate support. This does have good support, but the excessively high edges of the footbed are a problem. Otherwise the shoe is solid and seems well made.

I wonder if the shoes I received are a defect? These Ahnu's are SO comfortable and love the style and color, except the tongue of the shoe has a hard edge in one small spot on each side that digs into the top of my foot, so I would end up having to modify these with scissors or purchase pads for the top of my foot which won't work. SO bummed, I love these, wish the tongue was not painful. But I know over time it will rub and not be a good situation. I will try another pair because I truly love Ahnu's, they are some of the most comfortable shoes out there. And I am a size 8-8 1/2 for narrow toe beds, this shoe I was definitely an 8. I didn't feel the sharp points on the tongue until I laced them up, so putting them on I was like oh yeah, these are amazing! But no dice for me on these.

This shoe looks good and I wanted something different. It has great arch support and fits in the width and toe area, but my heel slips and is loose no matter how tight I get the laces. Laces are very short, so it is hard to double not these. I am returning as I am afraid if I wore them, I would get a blister from the loose heel fit. Felt true to size except heel. Any smaller and my toe would hit the end.

Cute looking shoe, but sadly going back. The shoe just comes up to high along my ankle, inset and heel. I can't imagine wearing this shoe for any longer than 5 minutes, let alone a full day of hiking. I ordered a 9.5 when I normally wear a 9, and still felt my big toe against the toe box.

Oddly enough the heel isn't to bad or wide but the sides of the foot are ginormous. you can stuff small maxi pad in there. I have skinny feet with high arches. These look like clown shoes on me .. The picture is deceiving. Other than that its a great fit and an attractive shoe that would be awesome in all months but winter.

Comfortable, however, heel wore down in two months. I walk daily. Per manufacturer this should not have happened so I would not buy again as they will become unusable due to this. Manufacturer said should not happen, meant for heavy walking.

When I first put these on, I was so pleased that they had arch support, felt light, and were wide enough for my wide forefoot and narrow heel. Plus it is hard to find shoes that are waterproof and wide. I wore them around the house just to make sure. Thrilled. BUT - then I took a walk outside. I don't know if I have a different stride outdoors or what, but the shoe has a bend right at the joint of my big toe and has been pressing into that joint - hard. Bummer! And now I've worn them outdoors, which means I can't return them. Hopefully this is just a breaking in issue.

I would like to give this shoe a better rating, as they worked well for awhile. I really used them for just a nice looking kicking around shoe, and not for hiking. And for that, they were fine. But when I did use them for hiking, they quickly fell apart..not physically, but they got wet (not soaking wet, but just wet from heavy dew) on a hike, and since then, they squeaked. I have done everything I can to lessen this, but to no avail. Perhaps if I had tried them earlier as a real hiking shoe, I might have been able to have some recourse, but who wants to go around in a squeaky shoe? Even my husband noticed, so it wasn't like I was uber sensitive to it. I won't be buying Ahnu's again.

The shoes smell awful! From first day out of box they haves smelled awful! No amount of airing out helps!

So sad. They are just too narrow, especially in the heel. The toe bed was fine but through the arch and heel - no way. They are so cute, but modest, well constructed and felt supportive. I really wanted them to fit.

These shoes are not waterproof. Dampness seeps into the Gore-Tex. They are being returned. Too bad because the styling is good and they felt good on my narrow feet which need orthotics.
