I just purchased this coat and I'm very happy with it. I am 5'5 129 lbs (slim/muscular build) and the small fits perfect, even with a sweater. I actually tried on a medium, as usually I need a little room when wearing bulkier sweaters, but it felt much too big. I live in Milwaukee, WI and needed something a little warmer after my Old Navy parka, from a year or two ago, didn't cut it during our recent Arctic blast.

I love the Carson pass coat because it keeps me warm and I don't need an extra layer under this coat because of the omni heat layer

Just moved to Indiana from Portland, OR and realized none of my casual jackets/coats were going to cut the mustard for the winter temps here. I've owned a Columbia coat of one type or another for 21 years (currently I own five, each with for a different purpose!) and have loved them all. Usually I have to get a Large because I have broad shoulders. Tried this coat on in a L and there was surprisingly more room in the shoulders and body than normal but decided to stay with this size to have room for sweaters. Lots of nice features. Two interior pockets, three exterior pockets, knit cuffs to keep out the cold, berber fleece lined neck and hood, removable fur if you're not into that type of thing. Omni heat in the sleeves too, so you will stay toasty and omni shield which keeps out the wind/precipitation. Two things I don't care for...(1) the belt but it helps to keep the warmth in so buckle up! and (2) the hood is fairly bulky so when I'm driving I feel like I really have to look past my left shoulder farther to make sure I can safely switch lanes. Was able to purchase this on sale so I was thrilled with the price. It's in the low 20s here and I've walked the dog in it a few times and have stayed plenty warm. I'm sure it will perform as the temps lower. Love Columbia, love this coat!

Bought the Carson Pass II to replace my 22 year old Columbia!(still in great condition) purchased to endure cold Idaho winters while attending college. So far this coat does not disappoint! Like the sleeves having an inner lining for extra warmth, I am petite and can roll the sleeves slightly and it doesn't look messy, lots of well-thought out details related to pockets, zippers, has Columbia written on shoulder instead of front, length is just right to keep my backside warm but not too long to look frumpy. Hood has great coverage and is warm and comfortable, love the fleece at the neck for warmth and softness. Spot on design! Love the attention to detail!

This is a great coat. I wanted something super warm that could also be dressed up with my nicer outfits for cold nights out and work, so I decided to try this, as it looks like a cross between active outerwear and dress coat. I tried the large at first, thinking that it would be smart to size up in order to fit more layers underneath, but the coat fit me way too long in length and sleeves, and although it was comfortable and warm, it looked too sloppy for what I wanted. I sized down to my normal shirt/sweater size, medium, and it fits great and looks much better. It is very warm, and I wear it over long-sleeve layers all the time with no trouble. I would definitely order your regular size in this, do not size up for layers, unless you're super tall and have long arms. I also love that the fur is detachable. Sometimes I am cool with it, but not always, so it is nice to have that option.

I love this coat! Buy it! I would just recommend ordering a size up if you want to be able to wear bigger sweaters or layers underneath. I usually wear a small, but ordered a medium because it was too tight in the arms and armpits. Great style and warm!

I saw this jacket online and I went into the store to try it on and fell in love with it. I am from Michigan and it is definitely not suitable for a michigan winter, however it's perfect for fall or spring and SUPER flattering. It has omni-heat technology so if you tend to be warm often, it will keep you warmer than someone who is always chilly. This jacket would be a great barrier if you had a thick sweater underneath it. I am 5'4 and 130lbs and I usually wear a size 2-4 and I got a small and there's room for a sweater or hoodie underneath.

Just got this today. I love it!! Could not be happier with it. It's a very flattering fit (not too bulky) but still very warm. The material seems very sturdy and weather proof. It's more of a grey color than black...but I like it....has a bit of interesting texture/pattern to it. All of the pockets, zippers and hood are super cute and useful. Love it!

I got this coat to go to England in December. I am not there yet but know already that this coat will be perfect. It's warm and keeps you dry. I think the quality is really great. It is the nicest coat I own in terms of functionality. I love all of the pockets. The fit is true to size. I am normally a medium but I am pregnant so I got a large. I have room to grow and I am tall so the arms fit perfect.

I reviewed the other comments regarding this coat and followed the advise to order one size up. I am 5ft, 3in and 145 lbs. I ordered a large and it fits perfectly. This coat is flattering and not too bulky as other winter coats can be. Often times when I order a larger size, the sleeves are too long, but this was not the case with this coat. I have not yet worn it in "winter conditions" but I am certain that it will be just fine. I have another Columbia coat with the "Omni-heat" insulation and it is very warm, so I feel this one will be similar.

I absolutely love this jacket! This is my second Carson Pass jacket. My first jacket is now too large for me due to a 30 lb. weight loss, so of course I have to replace the jacket with a new one in a smaller size. This jacket is warm (because of the omni-heat) and has kept me warm during the brutal Chicago winter last year. This is my go-to jacket. Kudos to you, Columbia, you have a winner here!

I ended up sending this coat back but only because I thought it would be too warm for what I was going to use it for. It was really lovely but I was looking for more of a rain and wind resitant coat to take to Iceland in September. I ended up buying a 3:1 exchangable coat. Good looking coat.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS JACKET. I was looking for a warm, yet sleek jacket. All my winter coats are so bulky they made me look 20lbs bigger and I couldn't carry my son in his bjorn. This jacket is perfect, nice lean fit but still very warm. classic, a must have!

Love this jacket! Super warm without being bulky. Packs up small, but again does not take away from warmth. Have worn it in the rain, stayed dry.

I love this coat! I usually buy Eddie Bauer or LLBean coats for winter, but they just didn't have what I was looking for this year. I wanted something to walk my dogs in that would be wind resistant, warm without being bulky, and I wanted it to cover my rear end. This coat is all that and more! It also is stylish looking and a great color. I ordered the blue/gray color which is very neutral and goes with everything. I usually get brown or black but this is a great change! This coat is warm too. The first time I wore it, it was 19 degrees and windy. I was not cold at all. I love the hood because, as it is a permanently attached, there are no gaps and it fits nice and snug without even changing the bungies on the sides. The neck lining is soft and warm and even covers my chin when it is zipped up all the way and buttoned. Plus it does not block your vision as much as other coats I have with fur ruff. No velcro on this either, which I hate because it snags everything. I am 5'3", 130lbs and I got a Medium which fits great. The sleeves are a bit long but because of the way the stretch cuff lies inside the sleeve, I can cuff up the outer part about an inch and that makes it perfect. The body of the coat is good, tho its a tad long to the waist, it is not horrible, and the bottom covers the rear nicely. The shoulder area is nice and roomy for movement but not oversized looking. The belt is great and adds some snugness when you don't want the wind to creep in and it makes the coat look tailored and fashionable. I don't mind buckling it each time, it's easy. But when I haven't wanted to bother, I just leave it hang or tie it and it still looks great. Pockets are awesome! A set for warming hands and a set for carrying stuff and perfectly positioned. I also wore this coat when it was 35 degrees and was not overly warm either. I do think it is warmer when you wear appropriate layers under it. If you only have on a t~shirt it feels a bit "clammy" I think because of those reflective dots. If I had any criticism of this coat it would be that for a woman, the bottom is a bit small for the top ratio. But, I find this is true for most Columbia clothing and they may make their clothing for a more athletic figure. I wear a full size bigger in their pants too. All in all, this is a great coat for a lot of uses.

This is the nicest parka that I have ever owned. The space age lining is so warm without added bulk and the trim fit, interesting fabric (the black color is slightly textured) and fur trim are functional and flattering.

I originally ordered the S of this coat and it was too big. Thanks to Zappos awesome customer service I had the XS before I knew it and the S was back in their warehouse. I have gotten so many compliments on the fitted nature of this coat. The belt at the waist line gives the appearance that it was made for me. I also love the length (which is just below my butt) for that added bit of warmth. I took the fur off the hood because it looked pretty cheap, and I like it much better that way. My only complaint is that the pockets are straight up and down instead of being on an angle like most coats. It makes it harder to shove your hands down into them that way, but it's not that big of a deal since they're so deep. It should be noted that this is not the coat I wear on deep freeze winter days in Chicago (I have a down North Face for that) - it's really not warm enough for those days where your legs feel like frozen meat cuts. I purchased this coat for all the other cold days we have where my unlined pea coat just doesn't cut it.

This jacket is excellent. Columbia knows their weather, so when they say it's waterproof, they mean it. The cut of the bottom of the jacket is wonderful; the way it falls is pretty and it hangs just far enough away from the body to not give you the soaked-jeans problem that is so common with waterproof coats. I occasionally get a little over-warm in this coat, but that is mostly because I wear it when the weather might not really warrant it.

I bought this coat about a month ago and I love it. I tend to be cold and this has been a wonderful and stylish way to stay warm. I'm going to be bummed when I have to put it away for the warmer months.

I absolutely love this coat! I am always cold and I think this coat may be the one to keep me warm this winter. I am unsure about some of the other reviewers saying to size up as I had to actually size down. I have no issue with the sleeves being too small, being unable to zip it or any other things that were noted here and on other sites regarding this coat. I love it!

I love this jacket! It is very warm. It is a little stiff at first but it has softened up already. The pockets are at a slant and are smaller than I would like but that is nothing that I would send this back for.
