For me these boots look like 2 tubes on my legs. Don't get me wrong they look great and material so amazing but they are not for me, I had to return them. And of course Zappos has the best returning policy so I was able to get the Melissa Button extended instead. The calf circumference on these are the widest I believe out of all the Frye Extended Calf Boots, 17". The heel height is actually perfect. The leather feel so soft but sturdy. I wish they look better on me so I could keep them. Thanks Zappos for taking great care of me on all of my orders.

Frye is my go-to brand for boots. I have wide calves, and was glad to see Fryes listed with "extended calf" right in the name. But, these are just wide enough for my legs with tights. The look is okay, not great, and I am contemplating returning. The shaft is not as high on the leg as I would like either. Ugh! The search continues...

This boot is listed as being extended calf, but I could not get my 16" calf in the boot. Not even close to being extended calf. It's pretty plain, too, so the boots are going back. Thanks, Zappos, for making returns so effortless!

Pretty boots but not extended enough. The Veronica Slouch Extended fit much better in the calf than these. Plus these were really stiff & tight in the toe box. I returned them.

I was so excited to find that these boots came in an extended calf, as I've admired them for years. When I received them, they fit my calf perfectly, with a little room to spare (shocking). I was incredibly disappointed when I stood up though, as the footbed was pushing up into my arches and made them incredibly uncomfortable and difficult to walk in. The footbed is squishy and does feel like it might eventually mold to my foot but I don't think I could feel good about spending that much money with the "hopes" that they would eventually be comfortable. Also, as others have said, the ankle is rather wide in the extended calf version, the leather is pretty loud when you walk, and I found the outsole to be ridiculously slippery (not like my harness boots which have the no-slip sole). Sad to send them back.

Loved the Jane extended boot. It fit well over my athletic calf however it was then too baggy and loose around my ankles. Must return. Too bad....

This is a review for the Jane Stitch in the Black Leather. Do not confuse this with the Jane 14L in Smooth Grain leather which is an extended calf style and will be wide on the calf (15 1/2 circumference.) The Jane Stitch - shaft height is 14 and circumference is 14. 'Got these in a 6 Jane Stitch. I am a true size 6 in Frye Boots. It appears that this particular style Jane boot will tighter around the ankles/instep and expect a little heel slip right at first. Note to self -- you may have to break these in. This type of leather needs a little time to mold to your feet. Get a boot stretcher cream if needed. The white stitching around the outsole appears sloppy but edgy (stitching quality is uneven - some parts are thick and some parts are thin); with the thread being white and on black leather, it looks pretty obvious; the quality is less than stellar. For the price, Frye may need to keep an eye on the stitching quality for the Frye Jane Stitch Black Leather or sell it at a lower price point. Stitching on the shaft is loose and unraveling. Consider that these may be a defective pair.

I ordered the extended calf size because I knew the standard wouldn't fit. The calf fit fine, the footbed was great, but the ankle space is huge. Looks like bulky rain boots. Going back.

These are really great boots, but the calf area is very thin and won't work with my jeans tucked inside.

I was looking for a wide calf boot but I was disappointed when I received the first pair as the quality seemed very poor. The boots were cut unevenly at the top cuff and were wavy. The front cuff of one boot had rippled leather. It looked like cheaply glued leather. The back shaft of the other boot looked the same way. When I put the boots on and walked, the heels sounded like hollow plastic heels. I found it hard to believe that Frye would make such cheap boots. I sent the first pair back and reordered hoping I had just gotten a lemon. The leather on the shaft of the 2nd pair of boots looked better but there was a defect on the side seam of one boot, where the leather had been cut and not dyed - so there was a long seam of untreated leather which stood out sharply against the dark brown leather. These went back too. I finally ordered directly from Frye and the boots are great. Excellent quality leather, good heels, not hollow plastic. I usually wear a size 8, but ordered a size 8.5 in this boot and it fit fine (with a medium weight sock). I have larger calves and these fit fine with room to spare for tights. Thank goodness Zappos has free shipping both ways and excellent customer service.

I'm returning these. The extended shaft was huge on me! My calves are pretty muscular, so I usually look for boots with a shaft circumference of ~15 inches but I could fit my whole hand down the boot shaft when I had these on. They were also kind of shapeless; it looked like I suck my feet down 2 stove pipes.

I was very excited to get these boots, they are really gorgeous. However, they are very baggy in the ankle,which really doesn't look right. I'm disappointed because they are also incredibly comfortable.

I ordered these in the black extended calf because I have thick calves and most other knee high boots won't fit. I wanted something to wear with dresses and leggings, but even though I love Frye, I had to return these. My husband saw me trying them on and said, "They look like two big barrels on your legs," not exactly the right words to make you feel sexy. The heel height is comfortable but there is no definition in the ankle, making you look like you have "cankles." But as always, Zappos is amazing! I wouldn't shop for shoes anywhere else!

Here's the thing, I didn't notice the black boots were extended calf when I ordered them. Unfortunately, I had to return them because they were just too big in the legs and looked ridiculous on me. If you have problems finding boots to fit bigger calves--these are for you! I have two other pairs of Fryes, and they are superb quality and comfort. They're expensive, but you'll have them forever.

For the price and the rave reviews on Frye boots, I guess I was expecting an absolutely amazing boot. It's okay but not worth all that money and hype. I've gotten compliments on the boots and they are comfortable (not the most comfortable pair I've owned but the most expensive comfortable pair). While I do like the boots, I do not love them and would probably not waste the money on the name.

Love the look of the boot except the top is way too wide for me.

I wanted these boots to fit so bad! They are beautiful but they just did not fit my calves. My calved are a little over 16 inches and theses were too tight.

If you are looking for a wide calf boot, don't buy this one. I wear a size 8.5 and need a 17" circumference in order to be able to tuck jeans into my boots. I couldn't even get this boot completely up my calf. Really disappointed to have to return these. I thought they were really attractive and well-made.

I wanted to love these boots so much, but I just couldn't. First, they arrived in a nondescript box, not a Frye box? Maybe I am being picky, but for $350 I would like them to come in the proper box from the manufacturer. The boots looked a little sloppily made, like the lining layer of leather was already loose from the outer layer, and there were strings everywhere on the inside. Lastly, there is no way that these are for a large calf. I ordered a size 8 and there is no possible way that the circumference was 17 inches. I couldn't get it up my leg, so I have to return. If they had been sized accurately and the quality looked on point, I would have loved to keep them, but I just can't do it for that price.

I have 4 pairs of Frye boots that fit perfectly and I absolutely love... these however are being returned. The fit is narrow and tight. The leather is stiff and I could not get my foot into it!

Ugh, what a disappointment! Ordered the extended calves because I put on some baby weight and I like a little gap at the top of my boot. Tried these on and they were snug at the top so the shaft did not sit all the way up my leg. Was so upset I went to the store and tried on a pair of regular width Frye Melissa boots and they fit me slight better than these. I'm only 5' 3, 140 lbs. size 7 1/2 shoe and my calves are 15 inch wide, extended calves yeah right! Thank you Zappos for the speedy delivery and free shipping on returns. Gonna try the Sam Edelman Penny boot next. My hunt continues!

I'd give a more complete evaluation on the star check-offs, but I couldn't get either boot on. The shaft was so narrow that my feet wouldn't go anywhere near the actual foot of the boot, so I have no idea whether it would fit my calf. My bet is it wouldn't. I've seen the circumference of the boot listed all the way from 15-17 inches and the boots rated true to size. I'm so disappointed. This shouldn't be listed as being an 'extra wide calf' boot. It isn't.

I'm puzzled by all the reviews that said these boots felt tight at first - I ordered my normal size 8.5, tried them on as I would plan to wear them, with opaque tights, and the boots felt so huge that I would have no idea which size to try next. They were at least a size too long in the foot, and so wide that my foot slipped around - and huge in the ankle too. I probably could have fit my foot plus 3 layers of thick wool socks in there! The calf circumference was comfortable though (I have 14.5 inch calves). I also didn't like the shape - it's very "tube-like", like a pipe that fits the widest part of the calf and goes down to the ankle. It looked good in the pictures, but I didn't like it when I saw it on myself. I think I'd rather have a boot that shows the shape of my calves and ankles. The boots do seem very well-made though.

I really want to like these boots because the heel, toe and sole are really cute. However, the boots are really baggy around my ankle and calf in an unflattering way. I might return them -- I haven't figured out if they are wearable. The bagginess might be fine for a casual boot, but I was hoping this would be something I could get away with wearing to work sometimes. Not sure if that's the case.

So irritated with Frye boots. They never fit right for me. I have a wide foot, but narrow heel. The heel is so extremely wide in this boot that it feels like a flip-flop boot. The toe fits perfectly, though. The overall quality of the boot is fabulous, the leather is beautiful. However, I cannot wear Frye footwear d/t the sizing and construction of their product.
