I've owned these boots for over a year and although I love the way they look, I find them very uncomfortable to walk or stand in for long periods of time. They are quite stiff and the foot bed offers little to no support. After a 15-20 minute walk, I am eager to take them off. It is also a bit of a challenge to put them on and take them off if you are wearing socks thicker than tights.

I think the boots fit? Hard to tell. They fit my feet, around my calves which are 15". But I'm sending them back. They slouched quite a bit around the ankles. It was weird. I thought it was they weren't pulled up high enough. Nope. They were up as high as they could go. Just slouched a lot. It changed the whole look of the boot. Back they go.

I was so hoping that these would work - to all my ladies with large calves, you know how hard it is to find a pair of boots that actually fit - so I didn't even flinch at the price tag. I originally ordered a size 7 (my regular size) couldn't even get my foot in and decided to try a half size up. I was able to slip on the 7.5 (more like wrangle on actually) but once my foot was in, the foot bed was super comfy. I wore them for about an hour at my desk to feel them out, they were definitely still tight around my giant calf, No way could I fit skinny jeans under these boots. more like stockings or leggings. Alas I am returning them. even with the so called extended calf these boots just didn't fit.

I was excited to find these and when I ordered, I practically tracked UPS every hour. I normally wear a 9 but I ordered these in a 9½. My heart broke because they could not pass up my arch. I measured my calf and it was exactly 17". Back to the warehouse they go. Maybe if they had a zipper. The search continues.

I have calves that measure exactly 16 inches. Most brands I normally wear a size 9.5. I also consider myself to have a high instep and have issues with this in many brands of boots without zippers. I ordered both the 9.5 and 10 in black. On the 9.5 I was unable to get my foot into the boot because the instep was too tight. I probably could have forced it with pulling the boot up with my boot hooks (if you don't have some - get some!), but decided not to. Because it never went on, I can't comment about the calf room on the 9.5. The 10 was perfect for my instep and was not too tight or loose getting my foot in. No boot hooks needed. The calf size on the 10 is also good. I have less than a full finger of room, but is not too tight and I have verified I can fit skinny jeans underneath. The footbed of the 10 is large for me, but not bad enough I can't wear them. So I'm definitely keeping the size 10. Overall, the impression is great. The black leather is not too shiny and looks expensive. My only complaint is that the ankle is wider than it needs to be and definitely bags - almost too much. But after wearing them around in my room I decided that it can be considered part of the style and will be just fine as long as the boot shaft does not sag long term as well (for now its nice and stiff and straight). The bagging ankle does not make it look cheap or ill fitting, but something to be aware of.

I was so excited to get these boots, and heartbroken when they arrived. Even the extended calf is too narrow for me, and I measured before I ordered. The boots are beautiful and well made, you just need twigs for legs to wear them!

I ordered these boots half size larger, due to a sale price, and found them to be quite comfortable. As far as complaints about the calf being too narrow, or the instep of the boot being too small, a cobbler can help address these problems. I had my pair of Janes stretched at the top for two weeks to accommodate large calves. After one week the cobbler had me try the boot for fit, and then continued for a second week to get the correct fit. It's a really slow process, so small adjustments can be made without worry. The instep of the boot can also be stretched by a cobbler, as shoe repair shops have the tools to adjust the fit of any boot. Hope this helps persons needing a custom fit!

I was so happy to see these boots in an extended calf size. I have wanted a pair of Frye boots for a long time and was very excited to get them. Despite the larger calf size, they just didn't fit me correctly. The 17" calf circumference didn't fit well even though my calf size is 16 1/2". The leather bunched at the ankle and the top of the boot hit at the very widest part of my calf. Really unflattering on me.

I bought these in the L believing they would be wider around my calves (which are average, not huge). They are still quite tight but leather stretches, so I'm breaking them in. This is my 5th pair of Frye's so I am confident in our future together. That said, the pair which arrived are stunningly beautiful (I'm a boot "horse"). And I love the heel: like the harness boot, not so high to preclude some serious walking but not flat like the slouch. I am giving it 4 stars overall since I am disappointed by the tightness around my calf but would give 6 stars for style if allowed. I predict a long, happy relationship.

Great looking boot, but I have athletic calves and there was no way this boot was going over my muscles. Had to return, sad about it.

My husband bought these for me for Christmas. They are so pretty. The grey color is very dark, almost black and will go with most everything. The fit is very true to size, but there is an uncomfortable seam down the middle of the right boot that hits my foot in a very uncomfortable spot. The left boot is perfect. I am going to see if they will swap me out a different pair. They are, however, so pretty that I have tried to wear them even though that seam is uncomfortable.

Gorgeous boot! Just ran larger than true size, more than a half size, but not sure if a whole size larger.

Gorgeous boots and sublimely comfortable but I think people should be forewarned that the oiled suede can't get wet or be cleaned without the color and texture permanently changing.

I was very excited about these boots, the price was great. But one thing I did not see in any of the reviews was how short they are and how they do not look great on tall people. I have wide calves and they did fit but the height of the boot came to the widest part of my calf, no higher, so it emphasized my calves. It did not look good. I am disappointed but will likely try another Frye boot style with a taller shaft. The boot seemed well made, the leather looked nice.

I have 5 different pairs of Frye shoes ranging from boots to sandals to heels, and I love them all. The Frye Jane 14L is a great boot. I was a little thrown by the color (taupe) at first but it's different and has been a great addition to my wardrobe!

I'm petite with small feet and athletic legs. It's really difficult for me to find boots, especially tall boots. I was looking for a tall boot with a slightly lower heel than I usually wear, to wear over skinny jeans. I was encouraged by a review on another website by someone with 14" calves who bought the Jane in a 5.5 and they worked for her. I also have 14" calves (14.5" with skinny jeans) and wear a 6, but these were too snug to fit over my jeans. They were also a bit too tall for me. The shaft is very stiff and came all the way to my knee, which I found uncomfortable. I had some room at the top of the boot because it hit so high on me, but it was tight on the widest part of my calf. The shoe portion fit true to size, and I found the boots easy to slip on and off (in spite of being snug). I got the redwood color and it was gorgeous. But since these would not fit over my jeans and the heels were too low (for me) to wear with a skirt, I had to send them back. So sad to see them go - they were beautiful.

Overall, very comfortable for rugged leather boots, yet needs to be broken in for long term wear. Perfect heel height for comfort with good support. Able to fit skinny jeans and leggings inside boot despite my muscular legs.

The reviews said these boots ran small, which is not the case for me at all. I am a true 6-1/2 and should have just stuck with that. I ordered a 7 based on reviews and they fit just like a 7 would, just a smidge too big. I do have wide, athletic calves, but these boots were way too wide for me. They would be great on someone with ginormous calves (no judgment, just saying). Also, they fit more like wellies because they don't get skinny again at the ankles, my daughter said they look like rain boots. Nice quality, and if you have extra large calves and cankles, these might be the perfect boots for you!

These are beautiful boots, but I ended up returning them. First of all, they run true to size. I know a lot of reviews said to go 1/2 size down, but I found they are much more true. I am somewhere between a 6.5 and a 7 and I ordered the 6.5. I was slightly small and I would have been much better getting the 7. Secondly, despite these being advertised as "extended" calf, they really aren't that extended. I have athletic calves and while these fit fine, they aren't as roomy as I expected.

For the right person, these boots would be absolutely gorgeous. For someone with long legs and size 10 1/2 size feet, they didn't work. They went to about three or four inches below the knees, so someone with about a 33-34 inch inseam should be aware of that. And Frye - please make a size 10 1/2! Tens are truly too tight, and elevens are too sloppy. As far as the boot quality - top notch.

So, I have several Frye boots, none that are over the calf. These were (emphasis on were) my Dream Boot. However much to my disappointment I couldn't even get my foot into these lovely ladies. First off, I have an incredibly ridiculous instep. So for any woman who doesn't have this a leather shoe/boot with very little stretch is very difficult to get on in a pull on style, and once on can be rather uncomfortable. Also (lucky me!) I have wide calf syndrome aka WCS. (Just made that up) The shaft measurement said 17 inches, which I believed would be a great fit As I'm approximately a 16inch calf kinda gal. No such luck. Couldn't even pull the boot on. Tear rolls down cheek. Maybe one day Frye will recognize us WCS girls and build a better boot. They were sent back. Ps. The leather is extraordinary and the construction was solid. They would be a wonderful winter fall boot.

In my quest for a fabulous black boot this fall, I ordered the Jackie Back Zip, Carmen Harness, Pippa, Jane Strappy, and Karla Engineer, all in size 6. The Jane Strappy is a great looking boot, but because there is no lining, they are more slouchy, which apparently is the intent. I have slim calves and these had the biggest fit around even when I cinched the buckles on the last holes, which then made the top sort of bulge out. Not very attractive. They were also very loose in the heel to the point it felt like I was walking out of them. And the leather piece on the back of the shaft was very crooked on the right boot. Maybe a 5.5 would work for me but I'm not sure how much they would slouch after a while. I don't mind a little but don't want a baggy, saggy boot. I like the looks of the fatigue suede but don't sure if I want to try it or not. Sent these back.

I ordered these one size too large hoping they would fit around my calves (16") - not even close. I wear a size 7 and ordered an 8. They also came to my mid shin which I did not like. I am 5'6. So disappointed.
