For a Merrell shoe, there was very little support and the shoe felt sloppy on my foot. The trim also rubbed all around the foot. Had to return them.

I'm returning these really cute shoes unfortunately because they HURT at the heel! Half a size larger might work, but as others have said, the material is stiff and painful at the heel area.

Love everything about the shoe except the edges of the leather on the top of the shoe cut into my foot and created a bump on the top of my foot. Never had another Merrell shoe do this.

When I first got my pair, they seemed to not have the problems that others have mentioned about the heel rubbing, but the more I wore them, the more I noticed that. Also, there is some rubbing in the front. I was hoping these would be as comfortable for my plantar fasciitis as another pair of Merrell's are, but I've not found they helped. On the plus side, they do look nice.

I bought both the black and the brown. I am a solid size 9 and rarely size up, only once in a blue moon go for an 8½. These shoes run small. The black was borderline, and I decided to keep them and break them in. The espresso were ridiculously small, not even close to fitting like the black ones. Why on earth would two shoes in the same style not fit the same in the same size? The espressos are going back. I will try the 9½, and we shall see.

I'd read the reviews about this shoe running small...well it doesn't so it's been returned for my regular size. Hope they fit! I love the colors that I purchased, light charcoal and plum.

The front opening of the shoe cuts into my foot. With the right peds it can be mostly mitigated, but it keeps them from being shoes I can wear all day walking around a ton without them bothering me by the end of the day...which hasn't been my experience with Merrells in the past, kind of disappointing. I haven't had them very long, but I feel like the sole of the foot is perhaps thinner than I'd like. They're acceptable, but not as versatile as I had hoped.

Heel comes up very high. Rubs the skin right off. Sending them back to Zappos.

I love the style, I love the color but the shoes are painful to wear. They cut into the wide part of the foot even though they feel wide enough. They seem stiff.

I wish I had paid more attention to the reviews. I wanted a simple black flat and have typically been very happy with the fit of Merrells. But despite repeated attempts, these still rub my heels bloody. It isn't the size - the shoes fit me nicely. I think they are just cut too high. It's a shame, because they are cute and otherwise comfortable.

I searched long and hard for a pair of comfortable black flats to wear every day as an elementary school teacher. I thought these were going to be it, but was so disappointed. I have somewhat high arches, but certainly not the highest, and my arches came above the edge of the side of the shoe. In addition to that, the insole has a cushioned heel but no arch or ball support at all. I am returning them, would not recommend.

This shoe is really cute, but not that comfortable. The footbed is completely flat--kind of surprising for a Merrell shoe. I needed to put all kinds of padding in them to make them work for me.

Runs 1/2 size too small. Cuts into heal. Otherwise a nice looking shoe.

On the plus side, I found these shoes really cute and a nice bridge between a flat and a shoe that is acceptable in an office setting. Great foot bed support - could stand all day. On the con - the upper of the shoe on the interior - is not smooth - so seams rubbed immediately. The back of the shoe lacks any padding or covering, so it had ripped through the back of my heel on both sides the first time I walked any distance. No amount of padding could overcome this (that I've found so far). Very disappointing in the end (and non-returnable since I only learned about the skin tearing when I was walking to lunch).

This shoe is so cute that I willed myself into believing they would eventually break in. They did not. I really couldn't wear them for more than about 20 minutes because the longer I wore them, the more they hurt - it's like they constrict under pressure. I even paid to have them stretched; they just snapped back to size. After about a year, I finally gave them away. If your feet are naturally the exact shape of these admittedly gorgeous shoes, you're in luck, but otherwise these will not break in.

These shoes offer no support and are not comfortable. Although they have a high back that kind of digs in, they are hard to keep on when you walk. Cute, but not for me. I love Merrell and was disappointed.

Really nice shoe, but runs very small. Other Merrells I have (5 total) I wear a size 8 and they all fit nicely. This shoe I've ordered in 8 and 8 1/2 and still too small. But I will keep trying and order a 9!

Love the look but currently trying very hard to work them in to reach a level of comfort. Lots of Bandaids in lots of places for now unfortunately!

I have vacillated about these shoes for a while! The style & materials are classic! But I tried walk in them at home many times, & I just couldn't "break" them in. I hope you will manufacture them next year in a softer, more flexible suede.

I've had Merrells before and this one has the same sturdiness and craftsmanship. It's a bit heavy for a summer shoe which is what I needed as a clinician. I find it stiffer than I remember other pairs being but it's breaking in ok 3 weeks later.

They look comfy but they are cut very low at the toes so that the edge is very uncomfortable and hits at a sensitive spot at the outer edge for me. Plus, they feel about a half size too large. I ordered my usual 7M but they feel like a 7.5M. When I walk in them, the opening gaps and they feel like they are going to fall off. On the plus side: they are adorable and soft. Just not wearable for me!

I think these shoes are lovely, but they are much too narrow in the toe. I tried my size and one half size up and down with no success. Even the larger shoe was much too narrow.

I wanted to love these shoes, but I didn't. I'm a long-time fan of Merrel shoes, since they seem to fit my slightly duck-shaped feet (wide in the toe, narrow in the heel.) I currently have 2 pairs of Merrel shoes, and a pair of boots. They are all comfy, stylish, and have a sturdy supportive footbed. Sadly, these Avessos were an exception. I bought them for travel, but the footbed was thin, and the shoes cut in across my toe after just one day of wearing them at home. How would they be after a 12 hour plane flight, or a day of tromping around castles and cobble stone streets? They are cute enough,and felt true to size, but they are not very functional footwear. I had to return them.

These will take a lot of breaking in - my strong suspicion is that they'll be awesome once broken in, the leather is sturdy in that way that makes me think they'll be perfect once they form to my feet. They are really unforgiving for now, though - I've been wearing them around the house for an hour or so at a time so I don't get blisters. The Oak color is really pretty and unique, too; sort of a light, warm orange.
