Running small isn't the only problem with these shoes--the edges are really sharp, almost like they've been sharpened to a point. Some reviewers said it took a while for the heel to be broken in, but I'm not prepared to put my heel through the torture it would require to break them in. After 10 minutes the edge had sawed right through my skin. To be fair, this was only on my right foot, which is slightly larger than my left, so maybe sizing is an issue. But, still, I've tried out plenty of shoes that were a little too small that didn't leave me with flaps of skin hanging loose.

I've owned these for about a month. At first, I was thrilled. I have wide, size 10.5 feet, and have been crushing them into heels for too long. These felt fantastic at first, but after about an hour or two start to hurt as well. They are true to size, but not the best for wider feet. Also, make your feet perspire and stain them black. Disappointed after all.

Great shoes! I live in my black Frye flats, rotating days between the Carson (round toe) and Regina (dressier pointy toe). But neither offer much in the way of arch support; and I'm finding I need more of that these days. Enter the Avesso. I really like the suede: it's soft, and is breaking in quickly; and texture is a nice change from the smooth leather of the Fryes. But best of all: while these come with removable liners that have a respectable amount of arch support, they're also far and away the cutest shoe I've seen that will happily swallow my custom orthotics. So now, they're my go-to street shoes for days when the walk will be longer. Very cushy; my high arches are happy. And unlike a lot of ballet flats, it doesn't crowd my little toe, creating blisters. It's also got enough room and coverage that those tiny black ped-like ballet shoe socks are a definite option for further protection from blisters on long, hot walking days. The only downside is that mine ran small. I'm a pretty standard size 7, but had to exchange them for a 7.5 to get the right size. In particular, the footbed seems to run short, so my big toe felt jammed up in the cap. Once I got the size right, though, it's a winner.

I love the look of this shoe, it's stylish, not frumpy, and the color is a beautiful espresso brown. When I took these out of the box, I was happy with the style and color and they fit true to size. I wear a 7.5 and if I had sized up to an 8, my heel would probably slip out. As soon as I put these shoes on and walked around inside, they felt great, so the next day I wore them to work. Yikes! After a short walk, my feet hurt, bad. I read other reviews that said breaking them in helped, and since I loved the look of these shoes, I decided to be patient and try breaking them in. I must say after wearing them a few times, I didn't think I was going to have success. But after wearing them for short periods, after about 8 wearings the edges softened up and they are now feeling great. Glad I stuck with them. If you don't have the time or patience to break these in, I'd suggest trying a different shoe.

I ordered these in black and I love them. I have seen other reviews about a sharp edge, but the black ones do not seem to have that. I tried on another color at a store (they were on sale and I think an older color), and those did have the sharp edge I've read about. But not these! I wear them all the time. They are substantial for a ballet flat but not chunky or sporty looking. Not too much "support" but definitely not flimsy either. I normally wear a 7 in Merrell but needed at 7.5 for the Avesso. I have a regular width forefoot but narrow heel, and these fit well.

I ordered this shoe in two sizes due to the repeated statements that they ran small. I didn't find them to be small at all. I normally wear a 5.5 to 6 and ordered a 6 and 6.5. Both were too big. Back they go. Other than that, they are very nice shoes. Quality look and feel which to me is a mainstay of Merrell's shoes.

I got one pr in black & one pr in brown. Black had to be broken in, but now they fit, and they are my go-to shoes. Brown were too small (I ordered them in the same size)! I'll send brown ones back. No problem with Zappos return policy! My rating is for the black pair.

Love Merrells in general, and I now love the Avesso's. Hated them at first and had to exchange for a bigger size. Huge blisters on the heel, required band aids. I bought two different rubber heel protectors and finally can wear these shoes! Wore them all over San Fran on a trip and once broken in, they are super comfy like all my other Merrells. Does take time to break in.

The footbed of this shoe is really cushy. I especially like the extra support in the heel of this shoe. I found it true to size. Only complaint is the heal needs to be broken in because the top edge of the heel pokes me just a little. Not sure if I am going to keep them because of the heel. They are really cute on. Also the lining felt a little rough. I'll follow up if I decide to take them on my European Vacation.

Love Merrell shoes! These run small. I usually wear a 42 in European sizing, but these were too short. Order up a size.

These were tiny! I just bought two pairs of Merrell shoes in size 8 and they fit great. For these, I couldn't even fit my foot into the 8s.

Feels good on my feet. Great shoe for being on your feet all day. Plus they look great.

These shoes are so cute but they really hurt my heels and the sides of my feet (where pinkies are) after wearing them for 2 days. Maybe they are just not for the shape of my feet. I am 5'4 and have narrow bony feet. Zappos customer service let me return them even though I wore them for 2 days.

I really like this shoe. The only complaint is that it rubs on a bunion. However, breaking in the shoe over a period of a few days has helped. I'm on my feet all day and the shoes are very comfortable overall. The arch support is sufficient for me.

I loved this shoe, it would have been perfect, but the top side hits right on my bunion so I have to return, which of course is the easiest thing with Zappos...why would anyone buy shoes anywhere else? No driving, parking...they're great.

Nice looking shoe with a comfortable fit. While shoe seems to run a tad large, I'm totally happy with my new Avesso's.

I was a little hesitant at first in buying these shoes, as other reviews indicated the shoes ran small, had sharp edges and needed a lot of breaking in. But I like the looks of them so much, I thought I'd give it a shot, even though my feet are wide in the front. I usually purchase a 9 1/2 M but with Merrells, I get a 10. I was so absolutely delighted with the black that within 2 days I bought the charcoal and the purple, and I would still recommend them highly. They are great quality, the color did not come off on my skin, even the black and they fold flat in my suitcase. I don't know what the sharp edges were all about. I can't say enough but that I just love them.

These fit perfectly true to size for me. They were comfy immediately out of the box, room in the toe box, no breaking in period at all. They have slight arch support compared to most flats (not high arch support) and I have flat feet and really need arch support. They've been comfortable for all-day wear. I have feet that always get blisters with ill-fitting shoes, or a sock that has a seam, or just from Christmas shopping. These shoes are perfect for my feet! My only wish is they were available in a variety of jewel tone colors.

These shoes are the best thing I've ever had on my feet! I listened to other reviews and ordered a size up and they fit great. They are very stylish to wear; casual or dressy.

The shoes were very nice. One shoe just hits a pressure point on the top of my foot that hurts very bad. And it's only on the right foot.

This is my favorite fall/spring shoe. Super comfy, lightweight yet sturdy. They give great traction for running around with the no slip sole. The best part is they really hold up well despite being suede. Mud brushes off and water dries without leaving a mark. The brown pair I bought two years ago still looks great!!

I actually received these as a gift and normally would not have purchased them. Having said that, I'm so glad I did! I have narrow feet and they fit perfectly through the width. It seems these days my feet fluctuate between a 9 and 9.5. These were a nine and they're the perfect length. I wear them every where and the adjustment time was minimal. They rubbed at first a bit at the top of my food just below my toes. I don't like to wear socks so I attribute the rubbing to that. Even though, I never once have gotten a blister and my feet feel great even after a full day of work (let it be known that I spend most the of the day standing). Great shoes and now I'm looking at other Merrell styles based on my experience with this flat. In closing, my feet highly recommend these shoes.

I was very pleased to receive these today, put them on, find they fit just fine and none of the negatives that showed up in reviews... happy!

Love these. Got them in black, and debating whether to get other colors! Wear them just with bare feet most of the time - no odor. No sharp edge on the black (can't speak for the other colors - read that they were different?). The black ones are very soft. The important details: usually I wear a 7 in Merrell, but for these I had to go with a 7.5. Also, these are not as wide in the toebox as other Merrells - wish they were a bit wider in the toe. My heel measures narrow but the front of my foot measures medium (sometimes almost wide). Given those stats, these fit well, but again I do wish they were just a bit wider in the toe.

I just received my Merrell Avesso's today. I listened to the other reviews on ordered up a half size then I normally wear. The fit is not tight and my foot slips a little, but I don't think I could have worn a smaller size with out them being tight in the toe. They are not floppy loose and they feel comfortable. There is no arch support but that is not an issue for me. They are super cute on and I was afraid they might look clunky but they don't.
