I can't believe how much I love these walking shoes. They are sturdy yet light. I wear them to walk my dog on the very rocky/shell-strewn beach near our house. This brand is know for having a narrow heel but a spacious toe box. I can't recommend this shoe and brand highly enough.

I did a lot of walking on my trip to Savannah, Georgia and these shoes went from the box to my feet and they were so comfortable. I need shoes with good support for my pronation (low arches) and these were perfect. I love the firm soles. Another plus: my size 11 actually looked almost cute! I loved the winter smoke color!

I forgot to comment on my first review! My arthritic feet require a stiffer sole than running shoes provide, and the Ahnu Montaras are perfect! Advice from some reviewers to "order up" a size had me worried, since there's no "up" from Size 11 and men's sizes are far too wide. Fit great, though--could possibly have gone with 10.5, if such a size were available, a very rare thing (hint, hint). I love these shoes, and the nightshade color is magnificent!

Have worn this style for years after finding originals in a hiking store. Now I find they are perfect for everyday life working on concrete floors and living in the mountains. These shoes give excellent foot support which helps relieve chronic back pain (for me). Colors are fun and look is more "sporty" than orthopedic old lady shoes (I am 62). I tried this shoe on in green at REI and it fit perfectly. REI does not carry black, so I ordered black from Zappos. The box says the black shoes that arrived are size 8 but they are way too small. They fit like a 7½. They are smaller than my SAS 8. I do npt know if they are cut differently or 7½ was slipped into a size 8 box because the shoes have no size on them.

Comfort first wear! Good room in toebox. Very good support, and I have plantar fasciitis chronically, so comfort is high priority. I wear these comfortably without additional inserts. I love the style too. Rugged but light weight. I wear between size 7-7.5, depending on the shoe, so went for the 7.5 on these, which are perfect. I like my shoes roomy, not snug. New to me is the fabric that allows evaporation of moisture- definitely feels cooler than other walking/hiking shoes I have. That's much appreciated here in the desert! Very happy with these and will likely buy this brand again.

I got an 8 1/2 med. Comfortable. Good toe room. A little slide in the heel. Light weight. Good looking shoe. I am a light weight hiker who doesn't like to wear socks. I may have to with these just because of the heel slide. I do like this shoe. Am keeping it. I chose felt true to size because it is just a little big, not a 1/2 size bigger.

I have 2 pair of these in the nubuck (spelling?)& now the black leather. Sound like I like them? I've had 3 pair of the Sugarpine waterproof, lighter weight & love them. These 2 styles give me a ridged sole that doesn't flex easy at the ball of the foot where I have Morten's neuromas that really hurt. I first ordered the Montara Breeze because it had the combination of both styles, they did not suit my feet at all. With the usual great help from Zappos I exchanged them for the style I know works for me, Montara II. I recommend spending a little time breaking them into your walk. The black look fine with jeans, travel/cargo/hike pants or dressier black pants while on a trip, thus cutting down on packing/hauling.

Great shoes - comfortable right out of the box! I have the hiking boot version as well and wear them all through the late fall and winter. These will be great for the rest of the year. Montana's fit me in 10.5, whereas several other Ahnu shoes fit me in a 10. Ahnu makes great shoes.

2nd time buying this shoe! Love it! Comfortable in every way! I needed a waterproof walking shoe for a trip I was taking. This one came highly recommended. Thought OK I'll try it. Probably never wear it once I got back from trip. I reach for these every time! I can't say enough good things about this shoe!

It has always been the great pleasure doing business with Zappos. Very helpful customer support, good selection and very fast delivery. I ordered the Ahnu Montana II for trekking. It's the most comfortable shoes for hiking and what I like most is the color. Unfortunately, there's no arch support. True size. I love and high recommend it .

This shoe was great right out of the box. I have high arches and always struggle to find comfortable shoes. This fits my arches well, but if you have flat feet, it may not be great.

I love the style! They seem very comfortable and will work for me. However, I have not had a chance yet to wear them out. But I don't think they will disappoint. I am only giving four stars because I had not had the chance to wear them.

The AM II is a sturdy good-looking water-proof shoe of the highest quality. However, for arch support and maximum cushioning, I needed to replace the insole with a more substantial insert.

First time I put them on, they felt broken-in! I have the Ahnu hikers and they have been my favorites, until now...the Montara II are taking me trekking around-the-globe!

Love Ahnu's Montara II! They are my everyday go to shoes. I have several colors and this one is my favorite.

This is the 3rd pair of Ahnu Montara 2 I have purchased. I love them because they are sturdy, not too bad looking, and not too heavy. I also like the cut of the shoe. They provide good support for walking in the desert and sand/grit/dust does not seep in. The laces generally stayed tied. I have never worn out the outside of the shoe, it's the inside that wears out.

This shoe is amazing. Lightweight and stood up my walking I did all over Europe for my 2 weeks there. Will buy another pair just to have around as a spare.

Fit (8½) is true to size. If you are used to wearing running shoes, these are definitely a little heavier on your feet. However, they are comfortable right away and the arch support is fantastic.

This is a great lightweight hiking shoe, though it's a bit roomier than I'd like. I generally wear a 10 medium; I got the 9.5 medium, and I need to wear pretty thick socks for the best fit. The back is a bit high, and It rubbed on my first long walk, but that seems to be breaking in. I love the way they look, and they provide great support hiking on the uneven trails I often walk. I've been a Merrell loyalist for years but lately have been disappointed in their fit. I'm happy to have found Ahnu.

Love the fit, love the fun color. Replacing my 1st pair of Montara II which lasted well for 3 years of hiking. Problem of rotating eyelets is fixed. Snugger heel & toe box in Medium than most which my A width foot needs. Love my Ahnu's!

I bought these to hike in and they required no breaking in -- great right out of the box. I bought a half size larger than I usually wear to allow room for my toes on downhill sections of the trail, and they lace up snugly to hold my foot in place. No toenail damage on the trail, unlike with some previous hiking shoes, and always comfortable. I replaced the insoles with my orthotics, which were designed to fit in Merrell shoes, and they fit fine. (I can't say what the normal arch support in the shoe is like, because my arches are so ridiculously high that I always have to wear orthotics.) I hiked all over the Tetons -- including a 13 mile hike -- in these and they were perfect. I could wade through small streams and clamber up rocks -- the shoes were equal to all of the challenges. My feet and knees were happy at the end of the day. I particularly like something about the heel cushioning. When I walk, there is a sense of solid support, a soft landing, and forward propulsion -- I can't really explain it, but I love it. I bought the brown for hiking and they look FABULOUS -- really stylish and cute for hiking shoes, and a great color. I am actually thinking of buying the black as well to wear in New York City when I am going to do a lot of walking! Not a stylish city shoe, but so comfortable....

This is the 2cd pair of ahnu montara II i have purchased. My job requires me to be on my feet all day long. These are so comfortable, and have great support. They are also durable and waterproof. Highly recommend.

I purchased these shoes for a trip to Ireland where a lot of walking over many different surfaces was involved. I have a lot of foot issues, but these were so comfortable that I ended up wearing them exclusively, even on the plane. I wore them to work for a couple of weeks before my trip which helped break them in. The insole comes out easily if you have your own orthotics, but I did not need to do this. Three weeks of absolute comfort was well worth the price.
