My podiatrist recommended shoes like these for a problem I had. After wearing these almost daily for two weeks, my foot issue almost disappeared. This week he'll add a prescribed insert to correct pronation. These New Balance shoes are very comforting and provided the stability I needed. (I note that he wears New Balance shoes, as well!) So far, no urine smell as others have reported, but I've been avoiding getting them wet!

Great runner. 200 miles run in them and no smell as reported by others. Love these shoes. Only regret is that I didn't get a size smaller. They do stretch out a bit. But very comfy and great support.

These shoes are comfortable and the size is true to form. I would like a deeper toe box and I find these shoes easy to stretch to accommodate my claw toes.

As advertised. Pretty much what you should expect for a a pricey shoe. Equal to pricier brands. As for Zappos, Brown was practically at my doorstep when I hit submit.

I am on my third pair. These are excellent shoes; they fit me perfectly. However, please note that I only gave 4 stars for an "Overall" rating. I concur with the previous review...that over a time they will begin to smell like cat urine. I noticed this with my previous 2 pair. I could not figure this out. I researched this issue and discovered that the problem is with the glue used in these shoes; when they get wet, the glue breaks down and releases ammonia. The pair that I have now is in good shape; but I find the smell very annoying. I do not like to drive my car with them because I can smell the odor emanating from same. Note, these shoes are still in good shape, the odor not withstanding. Supposedly, New Balance has fixed this problem. The good news is that Zappos is the best. Last week I complained to them about this issue and they sent me a replacement pair free of charge. That said, I give Zappos 7 stars. With these replacement shoes, I hope the problem is resolved. Nevertheless, Kudos to Zappos. I only buy shoes from them and I will continue to do so.

Great sneakers comfortable and sized right I walk 4 times a week 4 miles with no aches or pain in feet.

Good fit. These were wide enough for my toes without being too loose around the heel or ankle.

I typically wear a size 14 4E. I needed to go up one size to get the width to fit correctly. So I found the width to be narrower than marked. Other than the width/length issue the shoes are great.

After a year of wear, the shoes developed an odor that permeated the entire room. I have owned three different pairs of the 990, and all three pair developed the same odor with wear. If the problem is with the glue, then I suggest that New Balance finds a better glue. With wear and age, I am no longer able to keep these shoes in my bedroom closet. They are relegated to the garage.

Like some of the other reviews stated these shoes after about a month or so begin to have an awful strong urine type of smell to them. I don't have a cat or any animal living in the house so I can't explain why this smell developed? I tried Lysol, washing them 2-3 times, changing out the inner sole, airing them out in the sun, no luck whatsoever! They are comfortable to be sure but after this stench develops they unusable except to work in the garden. Very unfortunate for such an expensive shoe and reputable company.

Love the shoes, was a little hesitant at first because of the price. They are only about a month old, so we'll see how they last. Purchased them with New Balance inserts too, feet don't hurt after walking all day. Only one downfall so far, the shoelaces, cheap & starting to fray.

Tan shoe very comfortable. Bought grey also but having a problem with top of arch on right foot, bruised from the material on the shoe?

Ordered these for my husband. Love the color, but the shoes run narrow, which is strange because the reason I liked these the first time I bought them for myself was that they ran wide. He kept them, but really should have returned and bought a wide to keep his feet from hurting.

This is my 2nd pair of M990 shoes. I have weak lateral ankles and often supinate and roll out while running resulting in an ankle sprain. I have not turned my ankle a single time since I found these shoes. Excellent lateral post.

I find that after a short duration of wearing these or any other New Balance sneaker they smell like cat urine on the exterior not the interior of the sneaker. I called the company and they offer no resolution or any consideration for the problem. My wife begged me to throw out my old pair away when I bought these. At first I thought it was me but after reading of others with the same problem it is New Balance that has the problem. I need a sneaker with a wide width so I guess I'm stuck and they know it.

Been buying shoes here for 10+ years. Never had a problem. Always research the shoes first. Same size always fits but next time I might go with a wider shoe. My feet are getting older, shorter, and fatter.

This was purchased to replace the shoe model I'd worn for years, the 993 (which is apparently discontinued). It's great, especially for narrow feet like mine, but this model has one very irritating change: the tongue is about a half inch shorter. It really makes it difficult to pull the shoe on; I have no idea why it would be designed this way, no other shoe I've ever had has such a short tongue. I'll look for an alternative next time.

Good shoe...I use it for day to day, not running. After 3 weeks of use, it has a small tear in the sole (the white part on the side, not the bottom). This is a little unexpected, as I don't remember being that hard on them. Fit-wise, they are great. Ordered my usual New Balance size and it's perfect.

New Balance doesn't mess with a winning formula. This a great shoe: comfortable, supportive, and durable. It's especially good for people with wide feet and high arches. I've been using a variation of this same shoe for more than 25 years. Most of the changes in the new model appear to be cosmetic, which allows them to keep the premium price point. In fact the only thing keeping this shoe from being 5 stars is the price.

I bought this because I needed a comfortable running shoe. I chose this shoe specifically because it was the only one I could find made in the US. I noticed that after my first run in them my feet started to hurt a little, probably because there isn't much in the way of arch support. Overall these are good shoes, but the quality doesn't quite match the price in my opinion. I would consider looking at the other shoes in this line if they have better arch support.

Good looking shoe. Not the most comfortable for me at 13 4E but I have issues finding shoes. Good wide shoe, it's my 2nd favorite to date. Nike and New Balance are my favorites.

I've got about 50 miles on these shoes, not much for a true test, but I will say that I wish the laces were a little longer.

The 990 series are wonderful, comfortable running shoes which I've worn for many years, but they have one serious design flaw. The uppers are made of some sort of plastic mesh, and sooner or later (mostly sooner) the mesh gives way to the big toe of the wearer and a hole appears, making the shoe unsightly and of limited use. Like the little girl with a curl on her forehead, when they are good they are very good, but when they are not they are horrid.
